I bought one and because they didn't have any 540s , I had no idea this car was that powerful. I was afraid to drive it for awhile, but now every so often on the expressway when it's clear I step on it and my stomach tightens up and my heart skips a beat. One thing he didn't mention was that the brakes are phenomenal , silky smooth and superb. Sound system with Harmon Kardon has to be heard to believe, much better that any home stereo. End cost over $105K.
Thanks... great video. The midsize luxury market has some great choices. This, G80, and S6 are on my shortlist. I like how the M550 is almost a sleeper in this segment
@@SalamiCheeks I’ve only put about 10k miles on the car, but had no problems with it other than a flat tire. In hindsight, I would buy another one, but would have been certain to get a couple options…driving professional, and parking assist. Mine doesn’t have adaptive cruise, which is crazy in a car of this value. And, I only have a rear view camera instead of the 360 you get with the parking assist. Also, if you’re looking at a 2020, realize there was a significant change to HP and torque with the mid cycle (LCI) update, which I believe occurred with the 22.
It’s a great car, I prefer the subtlety over the M5 for when I’d be in the market for an executive, maybe in five years time this would be my thing. I’m currently waiting for my 2022 RS3 in bright green but I’ll grow up next time 😂.
I was about to sign a deal but changed my mind after reading about n63tu1/t2 reliability, even through this car has n63tu3, it's too early to judge.... :(
People always find something to complain about. There is a sensor on the ceiling for the gesture control. As long as your hand is under it, the gesture control works perfectly. It would be stupid for the system to read your hands at all times as you constantly move you hands which would lead to false inputs and more complaints from yourself.
Personally I’ll just default to the steering wheel controls. It’s right in my hand and works perfectly each time. While gesture control can be cool to show your friends, it’s just not as direct as the steering wheel buttons.
Gesture control is sooo much more than a cool trick to show your friends! I’ve had mine for about three years now and hate when I’m driving cars that don’t have it. The volume control and station/song change features actually make driving safer and convenient. I don’t have to take my eyes off the road for a split second, which can literally be all the difference in avoiding an accident. Unless you drive while constantly waving your hands around, it’s not the annoying interruption so many reviewers make it out to be!
Great review, very good commentary! I feel like M240 would be the best non-M M car, it’s so engaging and more powerful than an M3 from just a few generations ago... plus it can be had in manual rear wheel drive! not sure how long they will keep it in production though and what the new 2-series will be like
Jimmy Mak Just feels like M240 is a bit more related to the “M roots” and the power train is absolutely amazing! It is a very engaging car, whereas larger BMW cars are as you said more of “sportsman dressed in a suit”. M550 is a kind of car that would not make you feel bad for driving it 90% of the time using no more than 30% of the available power... Finally looks like this iteration of V8 is a bit more reliable and definitely much more powerful and potent so hopefully 2020 onwards M550s will keep their price better and be more desirable.
Oh for sure. The m roots is very different than what m means today. I mean you can get an x5 m which is far from the M1 that BMW developed back in 1978.

How has the reliability been?

Timothy Weatherspoon that brand new G80 looks mighty interesting.
What an amazing car! I absolutely love it
Would you save some money and buy this over the M5?
Nope. I bought a 2021 M5 after having ordered a M550i. 🤷
I did. Unless you plan to track it, the M5 is no better, less comfortable, and much more expensive.
I got a clean low mile 18' for $45$
The M550i is beautiful designs
Got my 2022 a week ago, and love it. Just awesome!
How are you liking it a year later? I’m in the market for a used 2020 m550i and I’m curious as to how it is for long term use.

I would take the 750im 2020 over this because it's more luxurious with the same power . But the 550i car size is ideal for some folks .
I think this more a drivers car. The 750 is perfect for the autobahn blast. This 550 is perfect everywhere, except the circuit.
amazing machine Lance!

I would love to have this car one day
Does the 2020 have the map in cluster
thats the older model right? not the one that was released last month?
brian downey this is the 2020 version. Not the 2021 model.
Great review!!
Thanks!
Could you get the 550i in non-m model
Not at this time. The 550 only comes as a m550i
Jimmy Mak question is there a m5 like track basically
I love the bmws , I think they are sexy cars .

The m240 is a great m car for those who want the m2 like feeling for sure.

M240 is ugly I wouldn’t spend a penny on a car like that
Nice video, please do the same for 540i
Will look into it for the future!
Perfect daily.
Remove all the badges and destroy almost everybody else.😉
Absolutely!
I'll wait 3 or 4 years and take 40k off a lightly used car.
I'll wait 30 years and get Bugatti veyron for that price.
@@Qaleyahmaley No you won’t, look at a 30 year old one now, Expensive!
@@2Greenlidyes u can, 2020’s even 21’s exactly 40k -45k off original msrp now, they can easily be found all day at 42-50k
Its very affordable now
Torn between this and the cls 53amg as my next company car
Imo cls 53 is more stylish but if you need to carry people the 5 series wins hands down.
Yes man
Lol, we need well manage right foot.
