As a seamstress I'm so mad that anyone believes they have to lose weight to get into a haute couture wedding dress. LITERALLY THE POINT of couture is to make a dress that custom-fits the client. You shape the dress to fit the body, not shape the body to fit the dress. This should be true of all clothing for everyone, but ESPECIALLY true for a haute couture wedding gown.

Right??? I was very confused. Like is she borrowing a sample? Because if she commissioned the dress, Idk why she needs to do that to herself. There is no point. Maybe she is so used to changing her body to fit the dress she did that as a reflex.

Haute couture culture has always been size-exclusionary. While not the epitome of "haute", last I checked when shopping high end stores like Saks and Nordstrom, they don't carry plus sizes. It's been a while and it wouldn't surprise me if that's changed, but I know that traditionally haute couture has served the rich...who are also, uniformly, thin. "A woman can't be too thin...or too rich." The two go together.

@@msg5352 Real Haute Couture can't be bought in a store, you have to order it. Someone from Chanel or whatever will come to your house and measure you and it will be custom made to measure. But yes, it is for the rich, a jacket from a Chanel costs upwards of 10.000 Dollars. But then I made my own dress, to measure, still cost me 2000 Euros.

Chris Evans said while filming Captain America there was always a rack of weights nearby so between shoots he could lift to have that “pumped” look. He also drank a lot of red wine on set to dehydrate and cause the muscles to pop more. Between the weights, red wine, and living off chicken and broccoli, he looked ripped for the movie. @@marlonmoncrieffe0728 Beauty standards have been altered throughout the ages and often served to showcase wealth and the unattainable (for the poor). The poor are thin? The rich are fat! The poor are fat? The rich are thin!
Now that we, the less-than-wealthy, are more connected than ever, don't you think it's time to completely deconstruct those unattainable ideals? (despite her being in her early 30s, and just looking not cheerful and with little makeup on those photos, and perhaps more gaunt, and that's it!) And it's funny how in your 20s it's so hard to imagine that you're not eternal, that this wrinkle free skin isn't going to last forever, you just never think about it. I never did too, but thankfully I never commented how old someone looks. Young people can be really dumb. I've heard that f.e. Cindy Crawford gets regular comments on social media on her looking old, and she obviously looks great for her age, almost 0 wrinkles, it's just her facial features don't look exactly like 20 years ago, which is fine. Perhaps she's had eyelid lift, and it makes her look more gaunt and dehydrated, but totally not 'old'. Exactly! This is why you should never make the mistake of comparing yourself with someone who has access to significantly more resources than you, especially as a teenager. It's not a fair comparison at all.
Most teens/young adults aren't living wealthy lives and have access to plastic surgery, the best skincare, personal trainers, dermatologists, the best gym equipment, the best quality make up, the trendiest clothes, and so on. Most teens, as you said, are working, trying to get through school, and they live either regular or less than ideal lives. Most teens look normal but are tricked into thinking they're "ugly" because they compare themselves to someone who has all the resources in the world to keep them from looking what is considered "ugly". Let's also add in the fact that a lot of these celebrities have people take photos or film videos with the best lighting, and then they often add in filters and Photoshop alterations. Who knows if these celebrities look as perfect in person as they do on TV/online/in magazines? If Billie, Charli, and Olivia weren't famous and just lived ordinary teen lives, they'd 100% look like the rest of us regular folk.

guys, for skincare: remember, the purpose of skin isn't to look good, it is to serve as barrier between your squishy insides and the rest of the world. Support it in doing its job! That means, keep it intact, hydrated, and clean. Having "perfect" blemish free skin =/= healthy. If that is the aesthetic you are looking for, go for it (in a healthy way)! just don't let anyone tell you that you having rough patches, blemishes, scars, stretch marks, or any other number of skin types is "not healthy".

There are loads of microorganisms living on every one of us all the time. I don't know for sure the full impacts of these creatures on real skin health (aka avoiding skin diseases like eczema) but I will take a precautionary approach: until we understand the medical benefits or harms of the ecosystem that coevolved with us, better not to interfere in it. All this to say I don't even think people should clean skin beyond letting water run over you, unless there is some actual dirt on it (my exception is to wash my hands to avoid spreading viruses/bacteria that would otherwise accumulate on them)

I'm glad you mentioned the trend of people saying "this is how you age when you're not problematic." I honestly can't tell how much of it is just a joke and how much is something people actually believe, but it's dangerously close to saying that being attractive = being a good person. Like, it feels like a modernized version of old Disney movies, where we can tell the villain is the bad guy because they're always ugly and old and wrinkly lol.
I also discovered recently that most modern celeb paparazzi shots are staged photoshoots and NOT actual candids. I've always known certain "paparazzi shots" were staged, but once I became more aware of it recently I realized it's EVERYWHERE. Example: most of my awareness of Bella Hadid comes from seeing soooooo many paparazzi pics of her on Pinterest, Instagram, etc. Pictures of Bella seemingly out and about, seemingly candid. But after I found some ACTUAL paparazzi pics of her that look more like the paparazzi pics I remember from magazines in the 2010s, etc, I realized just how staged the ones on Pinterest are. In no way am I claiming she's not gorgeous - she still is even in the unflattering paparazzi shots! - but it's really scary how warped our concept of what a human being looks like is becoming. Even the most stunning model in the world is not going to look glowing and flawless and toned from every single angle and every single possible lighting, that's just like....how photography works? It honestly makes me feel so crazy!

She ordered a double bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. I wrote down her order. She then began trying to flag down the server when she couldn’t get his attention, she pulled a bottle of some beauty product out of her bag and dumped it over the food. When she saw my face she said “I can’t risk eating it, award season is coming. You can’t write about this” She finally got the server’s attention and had him take away her burger and bring her a raw vegetable plate with unsweetened iced tea. As we were leaving she mentioned meeting her trainer. After a lunch of celery, carrots and cucumbers.
I see stuff about her and she frequently talks how much she loves fast food and how she eats tacos every day but she can’t seem to gain any weight no matter how hard she tries!

I know nothing about Giselle's actual habits but the problem isn't models saying they are naturally thin: some are, some women are models without starving themselves and they aren't lying, their bodies are skinny and they eat whatever they want. The problem is those who aren't models or aren't naturally skinny and lie about it, because they themselves are victims of this beauty ideal, and end up giving this impression that most women can be thin if they want to and that being thin is so common. It's not! The female body is naturally and most often curvy, right? That some women are thin and some more fat doesn't mean the average woman is naturally in any of the two extremes. Yet only one extreme gets criticised and shamed, and it's not the thin end of the scale..if you have belly fat, round thighs, arm fat, back fat, fat under your chin, guess what, YOU'RE A VERY NORMAL HUMAN BEING AND YOUR BODY IS THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE, WITH BOTH MUSCLE AND POCKETS OF FAT❤️

Of course, wholesome food helps you look 'good,' and age less quickly too. Yet even wholesome food is a function of economic privilege, never mind any other interventions or supports.

Its too much pressure. Not only does society expect us to immediately bounce back to a pre-baby physical appearance but also to return to the workforce shortly after having a child since the US has such appalling parental leave policies. Its like great you spent 40 weeks growing a person but now you have 6 weeks to erase all physical evidence of your pregnancy and get back to work while taking care of this incredibly needy person whose whole survival is dependent on you.

While she looks very good for her age, my main reaction upon seeing her Super Bowl halftime performance was, “Thank God I’ve built a career so that my salary is not dependent on being able to squeeze my butt into a skintight catsuit.” That’s the trap of building your career upon beauty, because the flashy, more marketable form of beauty comes easily only for the young. I think often about how our society has a responsibility to help define beauty in a way that includes much older people, and what I see marketed by celebrities isn’t it.

TBH if you think spending a ton of money on perfecting your appearance is going to make you like it anymore, you have another thing coming. I think it healthier to work on liking what you have or were born with and then just grooming to enhance it rather than fighting it. Sadly Ms. Weiss has always given that vibe that she’s not completely happy with her looks, and while that’s ok, if you know anything about personal peace and mental health; no amount of money would’ve given her what she wanted because she’s not exactly at peace with herself (or accepting what she is). I have been reading Into The Gloss for years and from the start. The woman doesn’t have the highest view of herself and while that’s common, it’s worth noting when factoring her excess. For what is worth, Into The Gloss is a fun site. Her makeup line is overrated though.

I fought for YEARS with moderate and cystic acne. I tried everything OTC and all it did was irritate my skin and empty my wallet. I finally went to a dermatologist and tried some things that helped but didn’t solve the problem, and then my doc suggested it was time to try isotretininoin (accutane). I had bad skin for 20 ish years and now, at 35 finally have clear skin because to went to a medical professional. When people compliment my skin I am totally honest and tell them what I’ve been through because it is important for people to know that I may “wake up” with good skin now, but that is only after decades of struggling and years of dermatologist appointments to get this face under control.

Went to the dermatologist, got recommended Accutane, took it for five months, and have never had any acne difficulties since. At one point I went to my hairdresser and she was like, "Okay what are you doing? Your skin is glowing!" And I was like, "Well I've been on Accutane for five months." Yes to this! I struggled with acne / acne scarring for years. Around 25 I finally got sick of it, and also maybe grew up and stopped feeling like it was something to be so ashamed of, and started talking about it with friends. I then realized that a couple of my close friends who had clear skin actually had worse acne than me (which drove them to see a dermatologist much earlier), and they recommended their dermatologist to me as well as told me about different things they tried and the side effects. Long story short, I went to see the recommended dermatologist, and got actual medication that cleared up my skin within a year - I realized my acne was actually relatively mild (didnn't need accutane) and had I talked about this with my friends earlier, I probably would have fixed the problem years ago. Seriously, we need to nomralize having open conversations about the things that we do to look the way we do - it's up to everyone to judge for themselves whether they think its worth / necessary to do certain things, but knowing what the options are can only be a good thing.

The positive side of acne is the preemptive strike for decades for me. All those things l did to battle acne were collagen inducing and attributes to my younger than my age look. I did nine months of low dose accutane during the pandemic. I was concerned I was missing out on being able to do glyco peels or use topical Retin A or Vit C. My doctor told me that studies done showed taking Vit A orally had anti aging benefits. I’m annoyed I have one pimple after nine months of accutane. Decades later and the fight continues. For me, gluten is a trigger for my acne.

Personally, I really don't know how to feel about it, and I actually worked in a household where the Thai(?) woman who lived there used such skin-whitening products.

I also mentioned Africa, so I think you may have misread my comment. Genetically it runs in my family to easily lose weight - bit of exercise, cut out high calorie foods. I have more trouble gaining than losing weight.
I've had heaps of women ask me how to lose weight - I spent my time giving them extensive advice on cutting out high calorie foods and still eat a healthy diet. Almost all of them still eat what I wouldn't, and then say I'm just lucky because of my genetics.
It is harder for some people than others to keep a healthy weight, it's affected by genetics, but also by what you eat & exercise. Each person has to work out what works best for them, and be realistic & know what you're willing to do or not.

I used to work in the plastic surgery realm and it wasn’t uncommon for women to drop $6,000 on an office skin treatment. If you see a wealthy woman with good skin it’s skincare, Botox, fillers, laser, and microneedling on repeat

    • @AB-sm1qf
      @AB-sm1qf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ring a ding ding, we have a winner!! I would say all of this, except voicing it through a megaphone…in a cave, for extra enunciation. Most wealthy women get a facial with lasers at about once a month, with tretinoin every other night and vitamin c serum in the morning every other day. Botox every three months. And fillers if they have a square face shape (honestly these are the only people that regularly get their face filled out as their skin sinks in and hollows out as they age…) but heart shaped face people get fillers for their jaws or chin too. Sunscreen is god. But mental health and controlling stress is the other big one. Prioritize accountability in relationships and you’ll see most women look ten times better overnight.

When I was 23 I decided to lose a ton of weight. Long story short, in less than a year I lost about 150 pounds and was down to about 175 lbs. Everyone always asked my secret and there was none: I watched what I ate, exercised religiously…and I was 23 years old and had stupidly overclocked metabolism because it takes way more calories to move and live as a 330ish pound man than as a 175 pound one. Now as a 38 year old man…there is no way I would have been able to do it: it’s a lot easier as a young person to change that than as a near-middle-aged person. This is the same thing. The same thing….these older celebrities do hardcore / borderline unhealthy regimes and have tons of hired help to help them maintain those looks. I’m now a little heavier (still healthy, but I’m 38 and have my “dad bod”), have rapidly graying hair…and you know what? I’m ok with it. But I’m also a man who’s well aware of the blatant double standard between men and women as we age. I routinely tell my wife she’s still breathtaking and that she doesn’t need to do cosmetic treatments. But she does because she wants to feel that same way about herself. And it ticks me off part of that is because society demands she try to look like she’s 31 when she’s 50 in 17 years.

It’s not that these celebrities/influencers lead these lifestyles. It’s the fact that these millionaires and billionaires will sit and claim it’s just vitamins and sunscreen that keeps them looking great while simultaneously selling a 40-100 dollar beauty product to the average person when in reality it takes thousands + to maintain that look.

I wish that at least they were more upfront. Also I cannot understand how the main focus on a mother that just gave birth is to 'bounce back' and even goin to the extreme to get a pre mature birth to avoid weight gain...but what about the health of the child? Every time I think about mentioned celebrities, or any other celebrities, to be honest, I feel deceived. Why can't they be just straightforward about what they REALLY do to be in such shape or to have such a look. For example, they get a plastic surgery and say about it honestly, not covering it up by lies such as: "Well, I lost weight", or "Shape of my nose changed overnight" 😅 I mean, constantly selling us some food supplements/cosmetic products definitely adds up to their wealth but feeding us with their lies... I'm not buying it anymore.

I tried lots of things for about two or three years before I went to the dermatologist. The first one was lovely and did help, but it was mostly topical stuff so it would work for a while and then flare up again, then I switched to a lovely doctor and he was like, you need antibiotics, long term. And probably will have to take them every spring / summer to prevent flare ups but it changed my life, I can haven't have a flare up in 2 years and it doesn't hurt. Going to an actual dermatologist is the best, much better than expensive over the counter stuff.
