Most things in life are replaceable.....a broken watch, an old car, some favorite clothing.....then there are the irreplaceables....a broken relationship.....a beautiful performance such as this.....2 musicians just on the same stream...totally in step with each other......why couldn’t Mark Murphy live forever???????
Deep, intense, total. Mark came from another planet. He was totally ANOTHER thing, incomparable. Each breath is a sack full of hundred shadows, each note a universe, and each word a poem. As a balladeer he was the first, one thousand miles ahead Johnny Hartmann, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme or wherever else. Bronner loved Mark. They made together two masterpieces, in 2002 and 2007, the last magic Mark's creative period. Great!
Sublime from beginning to end..... This is true artistry, which Mark has always embodied. Till Bronner, who is new to me, and the supporting ensemble, all play beautifully here.... This recording comes from and touches the heart and soul.
Oh my God, that two-minute intro featuring Till Brönner on trumpet really sets up a spectacular platform. And Murphy delivers handsomely. A gorgeous arrangement.
So so so beautiful. I think this is the best recording Mark ever made. Till is brilliant and the string arrangements are out of this world. How I miss the wonderful Mr Murphy.
Great, great and great playing from everyone. Mark is my favorite singer. And people who know me well will attest to my disdain for admitting favorites. The arrangement is astonishing too.
Wonderful Till & Mark wow wow what a combination. I Miss Mark also. Can't believe he's gone. Well, actually, he's still here on this marvellous recording.❤️
During a rather jovial around the city of Detroit Mark commented that certain people wondered why he did sing normal...'well, Ash, what the hell is normal was his retort...'? Truth be well established, Mark Murphy was from another planet and did exactly what he wanted to do...he left so much for us Mark Murphy Aficiando's that it makes me weep...I will always treasure you, your music and our brief time spent together, dear fried.
Just love the communication between Till and Mark. This is how we communicate musically and in life. I had the personal pleasure to share the stage and trade 8's with Till... A true educator, communicator and nurtures the cause.
All alone We were playing a game Making believe, taking turns So who's to blame? One by one we met the fools Who've never learned the rules They play alone and wonder why When we began We could roll on with the dice That freedom it seems Came along with the price One by one we met the fools They ever learned the rules To play side by side If we'd been aware of what we shared Our affair, how could we dare? Then give in to love in one long goodbye Tried to resist What we felt in our hearts Temptation remained Now it's back to the start One by one we met the fools Together, all alone there with you And one by one they make a pass, and romance Playing our game too Yeah playing a game, romance game You're alone, I'm alone You're alone, I'm alone It's all a game, romance game Like the fools I find it amazing how talented Till Brönner is, being such a great trumpetist, such a fine composer, a heartfelt singer, doing everything so beautifully, a German guy speaking excellent English - and even Portuguese - and moreover, as I've found out recently he is an incredibly good professional photographer! one hell of a guy! love him!

Our Game was originally written for and released on Till's Verve debut album, Love (1998). Mark's version with Till was released in 2005. I don't remember the dates of the recording sessions.

Mark is one of the best jazz singers.
When Mark sings, he makes me fly!

V Bonet , sorry to say everything he did was magical. I MISS HIM ALSO, MIL THANKS!!!
My all-time favorite male jazz singer. Beautiful arrangements by Nan Schwartz, Claus Ogerman's pupil.
i can feel the music inside me. it disrupts my breathing patterns. pure beauty.
Absolutely the greatest, EVER!
This brings back so many memories!! Till Bronner’s intro reminds me so much of my mentor Chet Baker...Lordy Lordy!!!

With "love is what stays", and "what if", 3 masterpieces. 😋🎺👌

Lucky, lucky Gary. You must be a fine musician.
VAYA! adoré esta melodía!
A gorgeous track from what I think is the best recording by Mark Murphy ever. The string arrangements on this recording are just superb.
Genius in action. Better than any medication.
All alone
We were playing a game
Making believe, taking turns
So who's to blame?
One by one we met the fools
Who've never learned the rules
They play alone and wonder why
When we began
We could roll on with the dice
That freedom it seems
Came along with the price
One by one we met the fools
They ever learned the rules
To play side by side
If we'd been aware of what we shared
Our affair, how could we dare?
Then give in to love in one long goodbye
Tried to resist
What we felt in our hearts
Temptation remained
Now it's back to the start
One by one we met the fools
Together, all alone there with you
And one by one they make a pass, and romance
Playing our game too
Yeah playing a game, romance game
You're alone, I'm alone
You're alone, I'm alone
It's all a game, romance game
Like the fools

Beautifully arranged by Nan Schwartz. As is the entire album.
