Carreras is a remarkable tenor, a great stage presence and is a superb actor. This is a remarkable Nessun Dorma: powerful, emotional, resonant. What a voice and artist he is.
It is not. Carreras was a true spinto, this was just before he started pushing the voice, so it sounds a little brighter. I can assure you it is heavy enough, you can't hear the squillo on a youtube video.
That is not true. Carreras was quite a heavy lyric tenor. I heard him perform live just meters away from me. His voice remained quite powerful until about 1993/1994. For reasons I never really understood that year seemed to have been a breaking point.
@@MarioStahl1983 it was the best voice until 1987 when he started treatment for his Leukemia. His voice never recovered and althougj it sounded ”fine” for about five years after the treatment was finished there was an incredible difference before and after treatment.
this is the first time ive heard him sing this pre leukaemia and without question his sad illness really did affect the quality of his voice.here he is in full splendour flawless with sublime delivery and beguiling range fit for the best "houses " the world over.Thank God you survived where many less fortunate did not and safe onward journey to you and yours.Bless you.
He was the BEST! No one has ever out sang him. All others have tried to match his artistry of voice but they have never reached his level of excellence!
Very nice to see Senor Carreras as a young man. By the time of the Three Tenors, he had been suffering from a serious illness for years. In his prime, his voice very much belonged with those of Pavarotti and Domingo. And yes, he was (and is) very attractive. And incredibly cosmopolitan. Wow.
Thanks for posting. Bravissimo Carreras! I think that, of all his renditions of Nessun Dorma, this is my favorite, and it's lovely to be able to pull it up, listen & watch.
I saw Carreras in 1989 at Carnegie Hall in New York. In those days it was one of the greatest tenor voices of the XX Century. The show was extraordinary. I will never forget the beatiful and powerful voice. When the 3 Tenors had the various presentations Carreras voice was much below or what it used to be. His high Cs were very good not as good during the 3 Tenors.
You can hear this wonderful artist somewhere here on youtube singing "La Donna e Mobile" at age 7, musically precocious and with good style! He was wonderful to see in person, so handsome with such a warm, affectionate personality. Bravo!
Loved Carreras oppsite Marton and Ricciarelli from Vienna 1983. You could see the intensity and beauty of voice in Princippesa di Morte and Non Piangere Liu.
Eternal, Inutterable Thanks to Josep Carreras for His Life and His Singing on the today's His 75. Birthday ( fifth of December 2021 ) !
I think that most people base there idea of how Carreras sings purely on the three tenors which is unfair as he is post cancer treatment. I love how he sings Nessun Dorma in fact I love his whole portrayal of Prince Calaf
Prior to his illness he had an exceptional, exquisite lyrical tenor voice. This opera & aria is more suited though for a spinto-dramatic tenor as it’s a much heavier opera. But Carreras offers a wonderful rendition here of this aria.
+Eu Sei And how well he sings. A friend told me he was very impressive, prior to his illness, cancer I believe. Bjorling moves me as no other; young Carreras, a most admirable performance. I must check out his younger work. Namaste and care, mhikl
Zan Mei That’s good to know. I will also look at his later works then. My friend claimed that his voice had weakened after the cancer treatments-I wasn’t so taken with the three tenors work. Often subtlety is an important part of the art, and easily overlooked, I suspect. Thanks for the heads up. Namaste and care, mhikl
@piemaster221 . The cancer was not in his throat, was blood cancer! but obviously the chemotherapy and the circumstances affected his voice, anyway for me, the most beautiful voice ever, unique!!, before and after the illness. :)
There is so much in what you say....have heard the same about other performers ...we even get it among flute players!! There are certain things one should only do at home...like playig traditional music if you only have a classical training!
Piccola voce fuori repertorio, questa aria della Turandot e' adatta a voci come Del Monaco Corelli Barioni Tucker Merli Pertile Gigli Bonisolli tenori veri.
Carreras is a remarkable tenor, a great stage presence and is a superb actor. This is a remarkable Nessun Dorma: powerful, emotional, resonant. What a voice and artist he is.
His voice is light for this song, but the tone is so sweet and the emotion so honest. Beautiful!
It is not. Carreras was a true spinto, this was just before he started pushing the voice, so it sounds a little brighter. I can assure you it is heavy enough, you can't hear the squillo on a youtube video.
@@Daedriczful He was never a true spinto, just a lirico vero.
That is not true. Carreras was quite a heavy lyric tenor. I heard him perform live just meters away from me. His voice remained quite powerful until about 1993/1994. For reasons I never really understood that year seemed to have been a breaking point.

He is what I call a truly spinto tenor. Amazing performance and definitely one of the greatest tenors in history...
He was the tenor that moved my heart in his younger days! So far no one can.
And his older days.
how about Corelli?
His voice is so lyrical. His interpretation sounds quite romantic!

Well this is what Carreras was before falling ill: one of the greatest voices in the world
José was a very nice man.. And a great opera tenor... ♥️🌹
He was the BEST! No one has ever out sang him. All others have tried to match his artistry of voice but they have never reached his level of excellence!
The best Carreras I've ever heard, natural, unstrained.
Wow! that was phenomenal! What a rich voice. Prior to seeing this video I had only heard him sing as an older man. This blew me away. Phenomenal.

He was better than both Pavarotti and Domingo
a fine performance, both vocal and expressive
Magnificent. Superb tone - love it .
Thanks for posting. Bravissimo Carreras! I think that, of all his renditions of Nessun Dorma, this is my favorite, and it's lovely to be able to pull it up, listen & watch.
💝 Without comparing the great Tenors to one another, I can say that Jose Carreras is simply (1) of my favorite Spaniards of all Time❗😗 (S.F.)
Greatest voice ever, I love Carreras voice! Indeed he is one of the top 10 tenors of all time!
Zeer mooi en vooral gevoelig. Een grote mijnheer . Dank U mijnheer Carreras.
Un fenómeno !!!
Bravo! Excellent rendition.
Thanks for your reply, PickBit. Indeed, Carreras is always a compelling vocalist, and to my ears some of his early recordings are simply incomparable.

You can hear this wonderful artist somewhere here on youtube singing "La Donna e Mobile" at age 7, musically precocious and with good style! He was wonderful to see in person, so handsome with such a warm, affectionate personality. Bravo!
This is the young Carreras at his very best.. before his illness, when his voiced changed though he was still wonderful in their famous 1990 Concert!
the most beautiful tenor voice in his best times
Carreras es un grande.
The final tons are unic.. Magic.. 😎
Beautiful ❤Bravo❤ Maestro Carreras ❤
Spectacular as always
so beautiful voice
I like how he says "quando la luuuuuuce" 1:12
I know Pavarotti is somehow an icon to most people but I believe Carreras' renditions of Nessum Dorma were by far the best!!
his renditions were packed with EMOTION which completely set him apart from the others
check out Placido Domingo. I think he did an amazing job not only in singing but also in acting the role.
Loved Carreras oppsite Marton and Ricciarelli from Vienna 1983. You could see the intensity and beauty of voice in Princippesa di Morte and Non Piangere Liu.
Carreras has the most beautiful voice of the the Big 3 but Pavarotti or Corelli have the greater range to sing this Aria
This is Jose at his very best before his illness
Awesome performance!
Grazie
Como cantas guapisimo,eres fenomenal.❤❤❤❤❤
Don't blame me, but he is my favorite tenor.
Fantastic
It`s reelly sad that he got a cancer. He is a great singer, very clear voice, just listen!!
Great!!!!Super!!!Bravo!!!
Just one word "wow".
❤❤❤Where did such a strong, beautiful voice come from in that small man, the filler of years of theater and concert halls? ❤❤❤
Oh my goodness so tender!
E' molto bello!
Splendid
AMAZING !
We love you CARRERAS
Bellisimo
And so handsome
fantastic, i have no words ...
really perfect!!
Veramente ,splendito
Love him! ❤
GRANDEEEE MAESTRO GRANDEEEEE!!
Beautiful!
Hermoso
The most beatiful voice and the most beatiful human being in the world!
nao existe nada mais lindo
as good as any of them! just wonderful.

Dezember 2021 ) !
Wow he used to be such a natural lyrico. By the time of the 3 tenors it became a very raw spinto.
wow...;;
+Gun Nord Sono d'accordo. Prestazioni molto impressionante. Placido si muove anche l'anima.
we love you Carreras
I usually avoid Carreras in this role, but he does failry well in this early recording, even managing to sustain the final note! Bravo!
Very very good
can you imagine if luekemia didn't shorten this career!?
Squillo for days and days and days

que dios te bendiga
I think this is a studio recording from London with Jesus Lopez Cobos from the late 70’s.
Love Carreras without the wobble. One of the greatest tenors.
Prior to his illness he had an exceptional, exquisite lyrical tenor voice. This opera & aria is more suited though for a spinto-dramatic tenor as it’s a much heavier opera. But Carreras offers a wonderful rendition here of this aria.

I think his voice is no longer the same. It would have been impossible after the cancer. It's just the way things happen, no way to change it back.
@piemaster221 . The cancer was not in his throat, was blood cancer! but obviously the chemotherapy and the circumstances affected his voice, anyway for me, the most beautiful voice ever, unique!!, before and after the illness. :)
Would like to see last of the proms
There is so much in what you say....have heard the same about other performers ...we even get it among flute players!! There are certain things one should only do at home...like playig traditional music if you only have a classical training!
BRAVO, BRAVO
Bravooo
Top 10, ever !

An Angel on Earth...
ESPLENDIDO
hahahahaha!!! of course!! cannot people see how relaxed he looks? like he never looked when he sung!
Aw - so sweet! :-D
@NiceIsFree They are all great, but Pavarotti with Mehta, 1980, is pretty hard to beat.
What a hunk!
Belle mani
good!
