@@physicsguybrian It was a controlled environment, that's what the commenter meant. This was not a regular concert but a recorded-for-TV show so the audience was told to some extent what to do and what not to do and when, etc., that is, controlled - not completely, but to some extent.
I'm not saying that they were not enthralled. I've watched this performance many times and it gets to me every time, especially how she remained in character for some time after the song ended. So, imagine what it was like being there. But it was a controlled environment.

It was not obvious for Serge Lama to write a song called: « Je suis malade » (I am sick)….
Not a typical phrase that suits a love song….both in French or English… you will agree.
But this guy (S.Lama) has a unique talent to compose music to match such strange lyrics…
In French it is a beautiful song and Lara Fabian’s interpretation is simply magnifique!

A masterpiece among masterpiece.. she literally lived her pain right there on stage... as if She focused all her energy in each and every word which she sings with such a natural feeling at the very right note... A legendary performance.... Every broken-hearted person will understand every moment of her song... so powerful... It's like a movie, you can feel the loneliness, the screams of deep pain in the dark , the broken heart so desperate, there is no better way to express the pain in your heart when the one you love leaves you and forgets you... Lara Fabian is actually unique. There is no other singer who puts so much into her art. This was the song that introduced me to her a year ago and fortunately there is more on YT. The more you hear, the more convinced you become that she is the best female voice on the planet. Go and enjoy.

Céline started selling millions when she entered the US market (biggest and most influential market) after releasing Unison and especially when she collaborated with some of the biggest producers/songwriters on The colour of my love, which was before D'eux. She had a strong marketing and said herself she never really made her own career choices when her husband was alive. D'eux was created by the most popular french songwriter/composer and one of the best selling french artists : Jean Jacques Goldman so yeah...it helped a lot to give her a huge credibility and visibility in the francophone world. Lara on the other hand is a songwriter-composer and was involved in each part of her career. She built it with the help of Rick Allison, another unknown composer at the time so she didn't have any influential people to push her career...and when she finally entered the US, Sony tried to change her, failed her marketing and treated her really badly.

I work with elderly at an Assisted Living Community. Just last a few of the ladies wanted to listen to some music. I put on TH-cam and located this video. I told them to take it in and enjoy. Half a minute into the song a few others wandered into the room. Soon others were standing in the doorway all watching this on a big screen. When song was over there were several people all looking around at each other just speechless. A gentleman standing by doorway spoke up and said “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life”!
All who watched wanted more so I played the Mmselle Zhivago concert in Moscow. It was a great success for all. Thank you Lara Fabian for your commitment to excellence always.

I listen to various music from classical, blues and jazz to hard rock. I grew up to the music of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Doors and Bob Dylan my first big idol. I adored Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. I admired Billie Holiday. However, Lara Fabian is my deity. Here in Serbia, you have never been able to see Lara Fabian on any television. I heard about her late. I first heard her song Je t'aime ,and noticed that wonderful voice. Looking further, I saw her performance at Eurovision and remembered that little girl like through a fog. Walking further through her opus, watching her concerts ,a new magical world of love has been discovered for me. Songs of such sensitive, expressive and full of pain are no longer written by anyone in the world. Combined with Lara's physical beauty and charisma, that makes her the greatest diva who walk the earth. Long live dear Lara. I waiting for you in 2022 in my gloomy Belgrade to bring a little light into my life

Je savais qu'Elle était une Grande interprète, mais là... La voix, l'interprétation, le regard, la gestuelle Tout y es, rien de plus, rien de moins. Tout simplement parfait. Je connais cette chanson par cœur depuis que le Grand Serge l'a interprété, il aurait fait un beau duo... Mais la version féminine est encore plus belle, triste, vraie. Et Madame Lara Fabian la rend encore plus que cela.

Je suis tout à fait d'accord avec vous, c'est à mes yeux une des plus grandes interprètes de notre répertoire français. I didn't discover Lara Fabian until 2008 when I went to Paris for my job. I work for a French company and some co-workers were talking about going to her concert that night. I asked "who is lara fabian?" They laughed and one woman let me listen to her Ipod. I was blown away and asked if there were any more tickets available. So I went out to the L'Olympia Bruno Coquatrix and wandered about and with the concert about to start, bought a ticket from a scalper. After the concert I stood outside in disbelief from what i had just heard and wondered around the venue for about an hour. 16 yrs later I am still in awe every time I hear her. Her beauty, the timbre of her voice, her movements, the gentleness of her spoken word, her emotion of every syllable, the wave of her hand, all is perfection. I am saddened I did not discover her earlier. Lara Fabian is my Helen.

I'm 40y old now. I'm from Portugal. Back in the day we had French Language as a course from like 12y old to 15y old. For some reason I enjoyed that a lot, whole the different pronunciations of the words. Fast forwards many years later, this is 2024, I'm so glad to find that Celine Dion or particularly Lara Fabian songs are so well regarded. This is like heaven to me - french spoken so good in song it's like the whole life it's evidence in your eyes.
I can hardly believe that myself, just a Portuguese boy lucky enough to appreciate all of this, still keeps this on his mind.... Je suis malade in my own way indeed :)
