Great story and history lesson. You can always buy new things over time, but you can't replace things that have sentimental value and memories that will last a lifetime. Glad you made the right choice.
Thanks Steve that means a lot I appreciate you taking the time to watch the whole thing. With everything that I went through with this guitar, I’m glad I still have it too. You’ll see it at the jam tomorrow!
Trey, most older or travelled guitars have stories. However, your story is the best, because it's YOURS. Thanks for sharing. Love the channel. Came over from scarred guitar.
I’ve heard you talk about this guitar before. Nice to hear the full story! Never give up something you love. Sure you were upset about the initial damage and then doubly upset by Gibson’s botched repairs and calling your guitar a liability and wanting to replace your memories with a shiny new guitar, but you totally would have regretted trading in a guitar that clearly meant so much to you. It sounds great. Looks gorgeous. I mean, maybe the Standard would have e worked out. Honestly, they should have sent a new Standard to you AND let you keep your beloved guitar being that they could get the repairs quite right - I mean, they were going to destroy it anyway (what a waste that would have been). You made the right call.
Great story Trey thanks...I've lost so many very sentimental instruments to me actually family heirlooms and I doubt I'll ever be over it. But what's past is past nothing I can do about it. I'm at least gratified knowing your story and determination to keep that guitar. Some things are priceless because of memories. Thanks Again brother you sound great as always!!

I find it hard to sell any guitars I have. I think about it play it then keep it. I remember I bought it for a reason and replacing is silly. I understand the sentimental part, my father passed away in March an i have 2 of his guitars.
I’m sorry for your loss, sometimes the memories are the best thing about a sentimental piece. I’m sure you have a lot of good memories with those instruments.
Some say they would've taken the offer for a new replacement but one part of the story really jumped out at me and it was when you said "Me and my dad went to the store and picked this one out together." Yeah, autographed by Artamis is cool but not cooler than you and your dad picking it out together. Best part of the story.
That guitar speaks to you. That is all that matters. I love my classic more than i liked my goldtop standard. I love how so many people are claiming that you should have went with the standard. Those are the same people who buy into the "it's more expensive so it must be better" bs. The best Les Paul Ive ever played was a mid 80s Burny. Cost me $350. Ive played custom shops and murphy labs that didn't feel as good as that guitar. Seeing the smile that riffing on it gave you is the whole reason we do this in the first place. Great video bud.
Funny thing is when I sent back my 2014 standard 61 SG they paid for everything and it came back as good as new. Some checking that looked like the neck was broken and the fretboard came apart. You can't tell if was ever touched. Got the guitar back in 6 days.
@@TreyShreddings I tell you I was right along with you with the sentiment. I told him please under no circumstances tell me that you have to scrap this guitar. Great story thank you Trey. Nice to hear about everything you and that guitar have been through, I would have kept it too! Sentimental attachment cannot be replaced with just another guitar. Great sounding guitar btw
I wish they kept the titanium bridge and brass nut. The rest i didnt really like. My 2015 SG standard is just collecting dust.. The neck is just way to wide :P I did change the humbuckers and coil splits out for P90s and just regular pots.

Good job Trey.. told the truth without it being just a bash fest. I've never really had the cash for Gibson.. but if I did.. I'd probably just have Sean build me an explorer or something.. I'm sure it'd be twice the guitar I'd get from Gibson.. probably cost less too. Anyhow.. nice job on the video.. thoroughly enjoyed the story.. glad you kept it by the way👍🤘
Yes it was bourbon burst. Pretty guitar. But like I said in the video I couldn’t let the one I already had go be destroyed. Some people wouldn’t agree with it but I’m glad I didn’t.
@@TreyShreddings You made the right choice, regardless of color. But I'm rather upset to see that Gibson rarely offers Tobacco Burst or Vintage Sunburst these days (I believe they're the same color... Bourbon Burst has more red in it).

In the end, you have what most Gibson LPs end up being as a damaged Gibson LP. The travels, the stages, the stories, it's worth more than what it ever was as unboxed really. Good call on keeping it. Remember that Layla, Duane Allman's '57 Gold Top eventually sold for $ 1.25 million in 2019. Gibson did warranty work on that one too from online reads for a refurbish. That's what you ended up with here, your very own Layla. A LP that has seen some hard knocks, great times & tragic moments. I only wish you could have avoided the strap button catastrophe, 1 or more fewer hard knock stories that it would have, would've avoided the warranty fiasco as additional stories. One would think they would just let you keep it for it's sentimental value, maybe buy it for less ($ 1 like an athlete that signs a contract to retire as a franchise icon) & provide a new guitar as well. If they are going to destroy it, fine, but I don't see an insurance company covering their own warranty replacement on defective enough to be replaced ? End of the day, heck I'd let Sean of SMG fix it before I'd deal with Gibson anymore. As they've already told you that they can't work on it ever again because it's a liability, that original owner lifetime warranty was worth a new guitar that had no sentimental value. You would think that Gibson would see this as something they could make happen, would they do it for Bonamassa or anyone else that makes them a crap ton of money ? Slide this one in as something you do for the Goodwill. Imagine the reaction of 3.7K views, 2.31K subscribers for TH-cam & that feel good story. Instead Gibson got dragged & you were just too kind & gentle about it really. A $ 2,300 guitar and they simply failed at something I think Sean could fix and leave that scar to add to the legacy of your sentimental journey with this guitar. I'd almost want a reinforced neck to be evidence of a broken/cracked Gibson headstock, since that's exactly what happened. It would still be no less as beautiful as it has been since the guitar went to Gibson a couple of times.

Too many changes at one time. If it had only been the components & wood upgrades, elimination of nibs, and zero fret, the fanboys might not have been so hostile. Personally the zero fret and removal of nibs was absolutely the persuasive reason I needed to finally buy an expensive Gibson Les Paul.
I think you’re right. There’s a lot of great things that they did with it, maybe the neck carve, neck width and the robot tuners should have been left on the cutting room floor

Gibson guitars have never been that great, very hit or miss with QC and material selection. There is a reason that company's like Charvel grew out of the 70's when players started needing more out of their instruments.
