Woodinville makes a great bourbon, pot distilled. I bought the single barrel store pick at Big Red Liquors and it’s become one of my favorites. I’m glad to see the finished whiskey on your list! Thanks for another really informative video.

As I've eased my way into the bourbon world, so far, I'm only able to enjoy lower proof bourbons. So the flavor layering really appeals to me...lower proof, a little more flavor. I have tried a few of SLB finished bourbons in the past and really enjoyed them. I do see a few up on the bar (in this video) that i know I have seen around town, so it could be time to add more to my meager collection. Thanks Kurt and Trenton!
Again, great job! Love the Westward line, we use their used whiskey barrels to age our Russian Imperial Stout. They have been a great partner for our brewery here in Oregon!

Picked up a bottle of the Westward Pinot Noir last month. Agree with all of the fruit notes - was surprised at how delicate the finishing is. Great choice
Great show guys. I wish I could find those Sagamores here in Rhode Island but I haven't seen them yet. My favorite finished bourbon on my bar is the Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished. Excellent bottle at a reasonable price. Cheers.

I have a couple bottles of the Widow Jane Decadence. It's just awesome! I've recently been trying to explore Cigar blends, and I did notice Old Elk released one. I have never seen this version of thier finished bourbon, though. Great episode!
Great show! My favorite finished whiskeys are, so far, are Widow Jane Decadence (based on Trenton's comment some months ago), Milam & Greene Port Finished Rye, Woodinville Port Finished Bourbon, ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon and Stranahan Sherry Finished American Single Malt. So many finished whiskeys, so little time.
Widow Jane Decadence is my most prized bottle in my modest collection. Love that stuff!! Constantly looking for a back up bottle any time I'm out. No luck so far.

You guys, man - you entertain AND inform. FWIW, the Rabbit Hole Derringer is one of my faves. Up here (in Canada), it's not much more than Angel's Envy and - to this palate - is leagues more interesting. I also love the Sagamore/sherry finish.

Great lineup! The Sagamore PX Sherry is tops for me! The Sagamore Rum finish is also a nice pour! I also really enjoy the Doc Swinson alter ego triple cask!

I really like the Widow Jane too. Interested in that ASW. But I also really like Taconic's Double Barrel Maple Bourbon. I would definitely recommend it.
The Sagamore Sherry Finish and Widow Jane Decadence are SO GOOD - I'm nursing both of those and forcing myself to savor and experience so I don't blow through them since I'm not able to find replacements easily. I just picked up a bottle of the Barrell Vantage last week as I have heard many good things about it, so I think I know what I'm cracking open tonight.

I really enjoy Trenton’s expressions. A couple years ago, our local distillery, Mississippi River Distilling, released a bourbon finished in Armagnac casks that I really enjoyed. I haven’t had many other finished whiskies.
That is a nice lineup of bottles. I have tried the Middle West Pumpernickel Rye and agree that it is excellent. I'm sure the finished whiskies have added steps which lead to the higher costs and I really have not picked any bottles up to this point. I have been finishing my own bourbon with a little simple syrup and a few dashes of bitters.......😁

That’s Barrel Vantage is such a chameleon. It changes every time I had a pour. Such a awesome bottle. Definitely worth the price tag 🏷

Last week I randomly picked up Knob Creek’s Smoked Maple finish, I wasn’t looking for that it just seemed different and it was cheap, 38 bucks. Its a young 90ish proof and you know, the only thing I could say bad about it is the youngness, it’s got some astringency, but for 38 bucks it’s a good buy, the flavor profile is so delicious. That was my first ever knob creek purchase, totally recommend this for anyone looking to try a unique finish that’s easy on the wallet.

I have to agree with your Westward Pinot cask. I think it’s amazing. I’m on my 4th bottle since discovering it. If you can find their Chardonnay or Sauternes finished bottles, I highly recommend. Thank you for the videos

I've got about a fourth of a bottle left on my OG WJ Decadence. Thankfully I've got two bunker bottles. Fantastic pour. Also a big fan of the Sagamores on this list. Haven't tried any of the others.

As a UK based Bourbon drinker (which I know doesn't mean a lot, lol) I think that the rules for Bourbon are that it has to be at least 51% corn in the mash bill, distilled and then aged in charred new oak barrels BUT it cannot be adulterated with any flavourings or colourings which, if you re-barrelled it into old sherry casks (as an example) would contravene the colouring and flavouring rule. Well that's my take on it anyhow but truthfully what do i know I'm British, lol !
All that aside, I love your channel ! I have learnt so much from the pair of you about US whisky and its tasting notes that it has fired my collection up quite a bit recently and I have to thank you for all that you have done in that respect. Keep up the great work and as an added aside, you (Kurt) are exactly two days older than me, we both had our 60th birthday in February this year and you appear to have the same palate as myself when it comes to Bourbon so you've been inspirational to my recent Bourbon buying shenanigans, lol.

Mind as one of my favorite finished whiskeys but I also like to add few drops of flavor to non finished whiskeys to create my own. There are plenty of choices using the ingredients you see on finished bottles, Port, Sherry, Maple syrup, a variety of bitters and a variety of liqueurs. Use sparingly so it does not become a cocktail where the whiskey doesn’t shine through. Don’t overlook the baking aisle for flavor extracts that will really expand the flavors including nuts, citrus and even root beer. Not all whiskey blend well but it fun to try and find the right combinations. Just don’t add too much.
I won a bottle of the Woodinville Moscatel from a Whiskey Tube channel and it is delicious. It started showing up in my town a few months ago at about $90.
I have a Hugh Hamer Single Barrel store pick at cask strength, 123.6 proof if my memory serves, finished in Cherry Brandy barrels. It is a thing of beauty.
As far as your more standard offerings go - I'm a huge fan of Barrell Seagrass.
So...I've had the Widow Jane 10 and loved it, surprisingly for me better than Eagle Rare 10 by just a bit, I've also had the Rabbit Hole Derringer and I enjoyed it, but for the price where I shop, Bunnahabhain 12 is $30 less than the Rabbit, and so much better in my opinion and I think you would agree Eric. I'm having a birthday this week! and Trenton has convinced me the Widow Jane Decadence is the new experience on the list, thanks again guys!

I just picked up Widow Jane's newest release, Paradigm Rye. For a 1st batch release, all I can say is wow. Such a great pour and you should try and get your taste buds on some. BTW, this is a great list.
My main problem is the price with finished whisky. It always seems to result in really expensive price tags.

I just went to a whiskey tasting at one of our largest liquor stores. I tasted 10 whiskeys new to me.
I bought a Buffalo Trace single barrel, and a JD single barrel, barrel proof. Both are great!
I like the Woodinville Port Finish. Probably my favorite though, is Heaven's Door Master Blend finished in Redbreast casks.
Great ep! Barrell Seagrass would get my top vote. I’ve also had a great Woodinville bourbon store pick, wasn’t a big fan of the Dareringer.
I also don't like any rum finishes I have tried yet but, in general, I haven't had a lot of experience with finished whiskeys. My favorite so far is Teilings Single Malt. That one is finished in 4 or 5 different wine barrels and is delicious.
My Polish dad got me into pumpernickel bread as a kid. Great with cream cheese!
Westward stout cask to me is a better option and that dank funk especially at cask strength i love it. Woodinville kills the finished products, they put out a distillery exclusive px finish that was divine. Although pricey the Nulu honey finish WOW great sweetness and the bourbon flavor still shines, one of my favorite finished bottles hands down. Peerless double oak gets a shout out as well. Cheers🥃
Had the Rabbit Hole Derringer for the first time a couple of weeks ago at a bottle share. It's excellent. At the lower proof, it's great for summer. But yes, the price is high. Also, your take on Amburana is dead on. There's not a lot of middle ground. It's such a dominant flavor it takes a ton of expertise by the distillery to get it right. I'd highly suggest trying to get a bottle of Starlight's Cigar Batch. It's the best Amburana I've had.
Woodinville does some amazing limited releases for us folks in WA. Most recently they released an Applewood smoked and Maple smoked. They only did a single barrel of each, but they're amazing and ive barely touched mine because I know I can't get more.
I was finally able to get a bottle of Decadence. It is fantastic, although I think I still prefer the normal 10 year Widow Jane.

The Woodinville distillery is great. I actually lived on that land in the 70s before we sold all our property.

Love that Old Elk Rye, has a dill flavor to me that I enjoyed. Got mine at Walmart for $45

Nice list. I prefer Port to Sherry finish. Where it is available, I recommend Woodinville Port finished Bourbon. Woodinville Triple Oak, finished in Islay barrels is perhaps my favorite finished whiskey. It's like bourbon with ash and brine. So hard to find because it is not an annual release. I haven't had a Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series that I didn't like.

Distillery 291 in Colorado Springs does some great finished whiskeys using aspen wood staves. 🥃👍🏻

Had Widow Jane Decadence for the first time in Coral Gables FL at a place called Bay 13. Easily a top 5 bourbon that I've had. $25 tasting during Happy Hour (50% off) was worth it but I would have a hard time paying secondary price for a bottle on the east coast.

I think starlight does some of the best finishes in bourbon. None of their finishes feel overpowering to the whiskey itself. Also the best finish I’ve ever had is a store pick cigar batch from them. A top 5 bourbon I’ve ever tasted

My local store had rabbit hole Dareringer store pick at cask strength (118 proof) and 6 years old. Super cool art on the bottle, but $200 was a little steep for something I haven’t tasted
I just picked up a bottle that I’m guessing will be my summer sipper.
NULU finished in Peach brandy cask (Exclusive to Indiana).
Naturally, it gets rainy & colder as soon as I bought it.

Maybe I need to revisit my Westward Pinot Noir finish. I resisted pouring it out. But the sour dank funk was too much the first time around. I remember thinking green olives and black licorice

Sherry finished whiskeys are great. Love them for rye, bourbon and Scotch. Sagamore is top-notch!
Port finished also good. Isaac Bowman is a very good.
Have to agree that rum finished not my fave. My GF really likes Angel's Envy verision. Sagamore is OK but I like their sherry finished much more.
High and Wicked does a Tokaji (Hungarian ice-wine; like Sauternes) finished bourbon that's excellent. Westward does a Sauternes finished American single malt I'd love to get.
St. George (Alameda, CA) distilling does a whiskey finished in Japanese plum wine barrels called "The Baller." It's very good, not my favorite, but has a flavor profile and evolution as you taste it that's unique. Starts sweet, then veers smoky.
Only type I've tried that I really don't care for is a Jeffersons bourbon finished in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. To me it's just bitter and doesn't taste right; almost like "corked" wine.
ASW Amburana = Scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner note on nose and palate. First sip I enjoyed at ASW Buckhead but then that is all I could get. Sag Port is so jammy and delicious. Glad Trenton enjoyed the Moscatel, 2nd bottle headed your way bud.
