yeah the cool thing about emerald was that it had a lot of extra content that could appeal to different kinds of people, with contests, secret bases etc it was cool to have all these systems stack upon each other within the same framework
I feel silly not knowing about the "fighting your friends where they lost if you mix records" idea. Goes to show how little I know about 3's Frontier. It's a shame record mixing never took off in the later gens. I think there was a lot of potential. Perhaps online capabilities complicate things too much.
Yeah, there's just so much to mixing records - it's honestly probably worthy of a video itself, just going over all of the things that record mixing affects.
As a kid I was able to get pretty far through the game without EV training or IV breeding, because I Didn't know about them as a kid. I had a choice band Slaking with earthquake, shadow ball, return, hyper beam., A brightpowder Blaziken with substitue, focus punch ,sky uppercut, overheat, and a tyranitar with rock slide, earthquake, thunder, blizzard. I got pretty far. I don't think I ever got any gold symbols but I got almost every silver symbol. (Not the one where they choose moves for themselves. . .)
As a kid I liked being in the Battle Frontier as a location, but because you needed BP to buy things (and to know how to train good Pokemon in the first place) I always really disliked the actual battling part of battle facilities (outside of battle factory) and was kind of puzzled why people loved these locations so much to the point they would call future games bad for not having them in future games. The only seal I’ve EVER got was the lowest level of Battle Factory. I definitely have more respect for the concept now that I understand more intricacies of the games, but it’s still definitely not for me and I don’t really get why things like Battle Tower don’t scratch the same itch for people. That said; I totally support people who like and want more battle frontier type facilities. For me though I’m MUCH happier with BP being blueberry points.
Yeah, and, like, having competitive held items be purchasable with PokéDollars or League Points definitely makes them more obtainable to players. Heck, I'd even say a Battle Tower/Frontier doesn't need BP - just make it easier to get things like PP Maxes, Vitamins, even TMs if they're gonna stay single use. I've tried playing VGC in S/V, and the biggest problem I had was I'd train up a team, play for a bit, then drop it. I'd come bag in a new regulation, try a different team, need to train it up... every new team I'd need to train would involve me buying a bunch of Vitamins, which cost a lot of money, which means I'd have to grind for that... it was a bit of a drag.
@@yukihoshikawaI was about to say I had more money than I knew what to do with in S/V because I grind every single event 5-7 star raid, but I only use the money on training individual mons for raids. So I probably only spend a tiny fraction of the amount you have to raising all of those teams. Things could definitely be much much better in that respect even if S/V is the best QoL for this we’ve had so far.
Just a side-note, it's interesting they brought Anabel back as an FBI agent with Looker for Pokemon Sun/Moon, and that she still has the Snorlax too. Why just her and no other frontier brain is a mystery to me.
I'm not sure if you accounted for this, when doing your 15 IV team, but a lot of the EV spreads you might see are done with certain breakpoints in mind, speed mostly, but there are also some offensive and defensive breakpoints you might want to hit (for instance, if you're running leftovers, having an HP value that's a multiple of 16, or 1 more than that, to survive the 6th turn of toxic). For instance a 31 Speed IV Timid Latios doesn't need more than 220 speed EVs, because it doesn't help you outspeed, except possibly a few corner cases that boost their speed, but with 15 ivs, you either want to go up to 244, to outspeed a big chunk at 167 speed or down to 212, to outspeed the 162s. I'm currently breeding for a 5 perfect IV Milotic, and not one EV point is wasted (I mean technically 2 are, but still), because I've been calcing for various matchups that it needs to be prepared for, and it just happens to work out that getting a favorable matchup on all of them requires 31 IVs and a very careful EV investment.
Nah, I didn't account for stuff like that. I think a number of the spreads were just 252/252/4 type of things, anyway (although it's been a bit since I made these Pokémon, so I don't remember for sure)
Ah the Battle Frontier. The place where I would lose over and over to the 20th or so battle and slowly grind out BP for BIG DOLLS. Kid me only had the pateince to grind out the Charizard doll.
@@yukihoshikawa 256 for the kanto starters. 128 for lapras and Snorlax each. There were some smaller dolls I think that were like 80 bp for like togepi. They basically were trophies at that point.
I wonder what happens when you have Emerald and you mix records with RS in terms of records. RS only allows you to register one six word/phrase quote instead of three. Do RS trainers get an autofilled two other quotes?
Just got Gold on this, it's actually really fun! The only criticism I have is the first 3 rounds being extremely dull, I literally just Choice Band Metagross Meteor Mash my way through it, no matter what pokemon comes up. If in the rare case it dies, I just clean up with my other pokemon. From round 4 onwards it get's challenging, round 6+ personally is crazy, a lot of fun, you can win or lose on a flip of a coin sometimes. I'm definitely doing it again at open level, maybe some Dragonite, Tyranitar, Heracross.
I always duped in emerald. I found a green orbed tentacool and brown machop in high school and my buddy let me use his emerald so we could have all evos for both lines
Seeing front sprites on the player's side feels uncanny.
Right? It's so weird that that's how Game Freak handled that.

Yeah, the Battle Palace is, uh... special, LMAO. That'll be a fun one to talk about when I get to it.
That tagteam battle intro is crazy! Emerald has so much to discover I'm still finding out new things. Thanks for the deep dive.

My new fav channel, well done on the video
Glad to hear it!
Great video! I spent a ton of time at the Battle Tower as a kid.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! It really is a neat place, especially with all of the little secrets and other modes crammed in there.
