I always imagined this being the first song vessel had written after the relationship with this girl had ended and he crudely depicted his negative feelings in violent way like this. In terms of the lore, I think you’re right in that he’s killing this girl as a sacrifice for Sleep.
Yeah, I think he's saying what some of us don't dare say aloud after someone cheats on you. Those messed up thoughts that are a product of deep emotional hurt and broken heart. Have you ever or had a friend who was like, oh how I wish I could... or if she ever did I would do xyz... Something happened to Vessel. Someone really hurt him deep. Almost every ST song is about turmoil in a relationship. Some are more obvious than others like Granite or Jaws where the song is the framework of the argument taking place between the two, practically in real time. He puts you in the room for the fight. Others or a little more subtle like Ascensionism, where he walks you through an evening that culminates in his revelation that he's over this. But don't think about the sleep diety, it's just something he uses to divert your attention from the target of the lyrics. Almost like he feels remorseful for putting the private nature of this relationship out for the world to hear. So he covers his identity and subverts the music behind this veil of a diety. The three albums chronicle his stages of grief and eventual acceptance of the failed relationship. That has to be a very hard thing to have opened up about and it's a song like Nazareth that makes being able to express his emotions in these songs possible. If he can reach out and touch these darkest of thoughts and be able to emote them musically, then he can express anything. It's all on the table.
You hit the nail on the head, he didn’t really kill her like some people will say he did. It’s metaphorical and we know she cheated because he says so in missing limbs.
@@003bsgj I absolutely do look at his yt name it’s vessellord it’s not about some diety. He’s always been vessel. We know they were together for a long time so I’d say it’s about her. That’s just my opinion
Every song from Sleep Token is emotionally because they sing each song with the five stages of grieving. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, specially Take Me Back to Eden the 8 minutes song, the band expresses 5 different beats in the song. 5 stages of Grieving.
Late to the party, but I interpret it as a song about cheating. Especially with "Make her eat the tape in the bathroom mirror".. Hes going to make her look at herself and what she has done with the evidence of it shown to her so she can't hide from it. and these are all the immediate violent thoughts he had around the cheating.
Great reaction guys!! I read someone say that it's sung from Sleep's perspective. Sleep being a metaphor for negative, intrusive and harmful thoughts and a desire for power. The second verse is being sung from a dual perspective "let's load the gun" is Sleep (as a metaphor) persuading Vessel to violence. The ending lines "they won't be missing you" are thoughts of self-harm imagined as if Sleep is saying them to Vessel but also, on the flip side, it could be Vessel offering these things to Sleep (money, kingdom, sacrificing the woman mentioned) I thought that was an interesting concept, that said Nazareth is an great song!!
nazareth became my new favorite ST song after listening to it. its lyrically unique to all the others. and for perspective, i listend to TMBTE album, then tomb, then sundowning, then 1 and 2 and the singles. absolutely love it. has everything I want in a ST song, heavy, light, lyrics, changes, mystery. can't wait for you guys to hear jericho :D
Just wanna say I really enjoy your analysis of ST songs. For me, what you two say often brings a whole new light to my own perspective on the meaning of the lyrics. And while y'all may brush-off some of your own theories on them, I think they're very insightful and things I never thought of before. Anyways, love the reactions, keep 'em coming!
Yeah. You’re right on when you say he’s talking about shooting someone WITH sleep. He often styles himself as sleeps protector. Such as in the song “chokehold:” “I come as a blade, as sacred guardian. So you keep me sharp and test my worth in blood.”
I love your reactions so good keep going! Jericho is next and it’s one of my favorites. I literally dream about the song and wake up with the lyrics on my head. Omg I can’t wait to go thru the other albums. Jaws is a single that came out and Someone said somewhere that Nazareth was the counter to the song Jaws. Check Jaws out before you go to Sundowning I feel like it’s important. Always glad to Worship🖤
I'm just now seeing this video. I went to see Sleep Token in Tampa on Monday. Stayed overnight and came home on Tuesday. I am disabled, and the trip and the stairs at the venue had me exhausted. But it was sooooo worth it! I recommend seeing them live next time they come to a city near you. I'd do it all over again 😂. It was so good I have no words for it 😅. So, I'm just getting back to my daily routine. Vessel is one of the most talented singers I've had the pleasure to see perform live in concert. Glad you guys are liking them too. Keep em coming! It's so fun to watch you guys debate. Worship
@@UncleTrebor yeah, I got my tickets back in February and they sold out quick then. I was lucky to get them. I'm sure they'll have some new material out soon. Since they signed with RCA, their light show during the concert was phenomenal! So I'm thinking that some new music will be out hopefully later this year or early next year. RCA is going to want to cash in on their deal with ST.
I always seen it as a depiction of how he feels, when finding out a lover is cheating on him. Its not the first time in the songs that he mentions that there is another man in her life. Or he at least "thinks" there is. But as we see from the fact that there are 3 albums telling the story after this EP, he took her back.
Ahh I've been waiting on this one!! The piano part near the end sounds like the Halloween piano right?!?! This one has always been hard to figure out, but to me it feels like a post breakup angst song, but in the most fucking poetic way. This is one of my top 5 favorites from Sleep Token hands down. It's got everything, amazing piano, lyrics, vocals, the breakdowns... Like what else do you need?? And this was early shit 🤯
First time I heard this song, I interpreted it as about a person r*ping and eventually killing a prostitute. But given the context of the lore perhaps it's Sleep talking to Vessel and urging him to get rid of his lover so Sleep can then have a better and only hold on him. Either way, we'll never really truly know the true meaning but it's a fun song to interpret.
The best interpretation I've found is that it's a sing about drug use. Knocking on the door with money is getting drugs. Gun is a term for a needle. Tape is wrapping off the vein. Hollow point is a dose. The person is taking drugs to escape pain and forget.
I'm gonna go a different route than everybody else, when you take these lyrics in context with the song The Way That You Were, this song very much Sounds like a gang rape at gunpoint, not having anything to do with the Vessel, but possibly a backstory for her. The use of plural terms like "lets" and "they", "them" between the two songs drives this point to me
The name Nazareth perhaps means 'a watch tower. All the protests right now at a lot of Universities with the riots and protests. Nazareth is the largest Palestinian Arab city inside Israel and one of the holiest Christian cities on earth. This country received the name of Palestine, from the Philistines, who dwelt on the sea coast: it was called Judea, from Judah: and is termed the Holy Land, being the country where Jesus Christ was born, preached his holy doctrines, confirmed them by miracles, and laid down his life for mankind. In the song, the line that starts with let’s load the gun is their first sacrifice. They sold their souls to become the band they are today. Sacrificial lamb, which was Jesus.

Jericho in history is when the wall fell and took 7 days. The veil is falling to the truth.

Sleep Token’s songs are about a toxic relationship. All the songs are tokens to the deity, Sleep. The lore is a bonus to the music.
My friend was telling me about the comic Sandman by Neil Gaiman... It looks like this could fit as well. Gotta check it out
