As noted door must be up, however, he forgot to mention to use 2 visegrips (OK) or C-Clamps (better) on each side before doing ANY work.

How do u get the door up? One of my springs just broke. I pulled the red cord to disengage it, then I should be able to just lift the door up? But it’s not moving at All…any ideas?

This is accurate. He does have an operator on the door so that will hold it. But you are right better safe than sorry

@@FixItWithMeI'm sure you have found an answer by now. Next time though instead of pulling your red rope. Have some one hit the button while you help the operator by lifting the door while the op is pulling it up. It's not recommended to do this more than a couple time. Operators weren't ment to lift dead weight of doors like that. This process is mostly to get your vehicles out and then leave them out until the door is fixed

Replace the cables too.. had a car window shatter because the cables broke with new springs

The door should be weighed to insure you get the proper weight springs.

What happens if you get a spring that does more than your weight needs? (Like if you need 120lbs, but you get 180lbs)??

@@TheAnnej73 I don't really know but I bet you would have a tough time shutting it and keeping it down.

So i can use 130lb spring on a 100lb door?

Using a different spring weight would not be a good idea. I’ve tried and didn’t have anything good come from it.

@@littleaboutalot7478 Thanks, ya i went back and exchanged for the correct weight. Initially i thought the stronger springs would be better.

@@littleaboutalot7478 what would happen? Also, how do we know what weight we need for the door?

What if you need to replace the spring but can't get the door open

The spring is a whole new process. I would search on youtube how to install a spring for your system.

Get a friend or 2 to help. Before starting, have 2 clamps, 1 on each side ready. Also a small ladder. Get door open to highest position, then on one side, use the ladder to climb up and put the C-clamp directly below the door wheel in the channel to hold door open. Do same on other side. This MUST be done before any other work is done on the springs or door will most likely come crashing down, as you should not use your electric door opener to hold the door up with spring(s) removed, as it could damage the opener.
