I would love to see a video on the Dell PS_ID circuit. It took me a few months to figure out the various measurements to trace the PS_ID signal from the power adapter to the MEC chip. The first thing to go is the small TVS diode that protects that circuit. So a video or two showing how to troubleshoot TVS diodes would be wonderful!

Brilliant exposition, very complete, with the values measured in the body of the inductors. It is a comparative reference to consult for any 15-inch Dell Vostro model and the measurements that can be expected when one has to face a similar model.
A detailed, meticulous, reasoned work towards whom it is directed; which cannot help but appreciate (recognize, give credit to) both the effort and the time invested to prepare it. A sincere congratulations. Needless to say, I loved it! Apply it to other manufacturers and their models? It would be fabulous. Thank you very much for sharing. All the best.
PS: I usually follow the repair guides "written" in iFixit but your work in Video, in my personal opinion, has the main advantage: saving time. To be fair: they complement each other.

Definitely of interest. Would appreciate having JPG file with markings for however many models you can document. Excellent picture quality.

Yeah I've thought about that Larry, seems like it would be the next logical step.

It is interesting (and perhaps obvious to all) that the gates of PQB11 and PQB12 are tied together, so they should both be on or should both be off. Two switches in series seems redundant, but provide an extra layer of protection, I suppose.

This video is essential to the understanding of the standard power rails on a wide variety of Dell Vostro, Inspiron, and even Latitude laptop models.

this is great i am actually trying to repair a similar board. LA-L243P it has the same schematic and would appreciate the more if you could do the charging system of the same board

I assume that the resistance value at each inductor is related to the diode mode voltage drop. Therefore, if a rail is shorted, and resistance is near zero, then the voltage drop should also be near zero.

Hey man, nice video. I have one of these for a client. The issue is that it won't turn on at all. The client says they saw ants in it and tried to get them out by hitting the bottom of the machine with their hands. I know it makes no sense. But since then, it won't turn on. There is no life when the power button is pressed without the charger. Once the charger is plugged in and the button is pressed then the light where the power adapter is stays on as long as you press the power button. As soon as you release it the light on the side goes out. And again, no power at any point. Do you have any idea what the issue may be?

Hi, thanks for watching. If the light on the power adapter goes off when you press the power button, this is usually an indication that the board is shorted and the power adapter is shutting down for protection. If you want to be the next in my "help a subscriber" series, send me a few pics of the board to therepairshare@gmail.com - from what you describe in your comment, I would there is a good chance of repair.

@therepairshare673 Thanks for responding. I made an error the light that goes off is the one on the side of the laptop, not the one on the power adapter. That one remains on. Each time the laptop is plugged in and the power button is pressed, the light indicator right underneath the charging port turns on but shuts off as soon as I release that power button. It does not power on at all. And it does not show the light under the charging port does not illuminate at all without the charger. Suggests that it isn't even charging the pc at all. I will send you the image. Check your email please.
