An update to the Clone or counterfeit watch movement - the ETA 2824 movement live stream from a few weeks ago. Have you serviced one of these? What are your thoughts?
I suffer from high blood pressure and at the ripe old age of 62 am told it could be dangerous so I took my blood pressure before and after watching your assemble and disassemble of movements and guess what? My blood pressure drops to survivable limits . I am forever in your dept thank you most kindly brilliant work , can only be described as poetry in motion life saving watch maintenance bravo you my man are a star.👍👏🏻😃
I could watch your videos for hours. That´s so inspiring, educating AND relaxing in one go.... on my 58" TV it looks like railway-rails putting together a tractor´s gearbox. But as I know the parts are extremely tiny.... just love it.
Hello Mark. Thanks again for this interesting video. I myself am not a watchmaker, but I find it very very relaxed to watch your videos, and you have a good taste for the music choice. Thank you.
You sir.... and your channel, are a god-send! I have recently gotten into watches and would like to be able to do my own repairs, mods and alterations. I and am reading some books but it is hard to grasp some things as I am trying to use my imagination with what I am reading. I am still scared of tinkering with my watches for fear of damaging them..... watching repair and hearing you expertly explain what and why you do.... is just priceless information to me. THANK YOU. There are no watch schools near me (I am in Los Angeles) and you are the best thing right now. Please keep the great videos coming... Ps. I also love the way you show what tools you use... explain why you use that tool and what other tool can be used to accomplish the same results.... Bergeon and Horotec tools are not cheap... and is just another important reason I appreciate your videos... Fan for life!!!
Love the way all the components go exactly where they should. When I try you can guarantee springs will spring and screws will disappear over my shoulder.
Very interesting, and thanks yet again! I marvel at how smoothly your reassemblies seem to go. I always have a dickens of a time with trainwheel pivots refusing to engage when replacing their bridge, screws snapping out of the tweezers, etc. But I still very much enjoy watch servicing, and your lessons have been invaluable.
You do not want to skimp on tweezers or screwdrivers. If you have quality tweezers, you are probably squeezing them too tight. Squeeze them gently with just enough pressure to hold them
Another great video of an ETA 2824 (okay counterfeit) strip down and rebuild. Cant wait to get the time to do this on a spare seagull movement I have. Really looking forward to the Seagull review!! Thanks again for the great content Mark
I have a Seagull 1963. Beautiful movement. Great watch. The crown has partially jammed though and needs lubricating. Not something I can do. I watch these vids because I like watches, I'm no watchmaker!
Very informative and entertaining Mark. You have a calming effect when yo describe what you are doing and you exude confidence. I am often spell bound by your videos. Thank You.
Great video. Ok the movement is a bastard, weaned in the gutter, but you've lifted in out, adopted it and given it....hope. My lip is trembling now, in a sad/happy way. :)

Not going to lie.....seeing you put the train Bridge back on, spin the gears and all seated in their jewels instantly made me sick with envy!!! I've got steady hands, but not great optical equipment, so no matter how hard I try, it takes me what feels like forever to do!!!
Hi Mark, I've recently discovered your channel and am thoroughly enjoying it having dabbled a little in pocket watches in the past and being something of a (cheaper) watch collector. How would you suggest telling the difference between something like the seagull 2824 vs the ones in this video as I'm quite fancying having another dabble and have and nice case that one would fit which just now is fitted with a cheap broken movement which is most likely one like you show? Thanks.
Hi Mark, is that an auto oiler you are using? I have often contemplated these but the price is prohibitive. I would really like to hear your thoughts. Thanks as always for your content!
Mark great vidio mmagic watchwork . Just noticed in a previous vid you wound the mainspring anticlockwise and then fitted into the barrel. Question how do you know which direction clock or anti clock wind the main spring .cheers
Incredible!, i have a question, In this 2824 clones (Seagull, Shangai, Valanvron, etc) do you have to take the stem in hand setting position, date change, or winding position?
Do you happen to have a set of videos where you break down a whole watch and explain how each individual part works itself and with other parts to create the functioning of the watch?
Very much enjoyed this video and some great camera work. Quick question, how long would it normally take to strip, clean and reassemble a 2824 movement? Thanks
hi sir, your channel is a GREAT help!! I am started to fixing my own eta 7750 and 2824-2 and your step by step videos are great! I do have a quick question.. My stem for 2824-2 was stuck so i had to disassembled, facing two problems.. i was finally able to fix the locking issue with the stem but it is no longer self winding.. before if the stem is all the way in you can rotate the watch to get it going without shaking the watch to start,. after i reassembled it is not doing that.. Also the date wheel is not moving smoothly. Could you please help me!!! I spent straight 4 hours and another 2 hours yesterday and making no progress. Truly have a great respect for you and other professional watch person.
Hello, I have a nice watch case and band for a 2824-2 movement. I want to drop in a 2893-2 GMT movement. The height difference is 0.5mm. Diameter the same. How do I lock in the movement? I don't think the screw clamps are going to reach the case edge. Any way to get this movement to fit like the 2824-2?
I was looking at a Patek fake with moon function and wondering about it's quality. My friend has a fake Rolex and said it keeps "good time." Any comments? Thanks for the great shows and work.
Great job, that thing makes a Molinya movement look quality. Per a watchmaker I have listened to all from the middle empire are dry. The work you put into this, it would be better to buy from Ofrei.
Hi Mark. Your video is great, informative, and easy to understand. Soo i have problem with my seiko watch, the beat of i call "balancing wheel" is to fast. That make my watch not accurate. How to fix my problem.? Tks.
Just a small detail but 2824 has a lift angle of 53 degrees. Doing measurements with the timegraphers default 52 degrees cause a little error in the amplitude reading.
Your videos are indeed very therapeutic. Now I also want to have a go at repairing 2 old watches that I've accumulated over the last few years, namely Chinese "Homage" watches (Sewor SW043) looks like a Divers watch but certainly isn't in anyway waterproof. The movement in this watch looks like no other that I've seen on anyone's TH-cam watch fix videos. It is is probably something that you would consider to be a piece of junk. After all, you regularly service real Rolex watches and not some £13 knock off from China. But in it's defense, I would say that after acquiring a good example, one without what appeared to be a single nasal hair fouling the hair spring. A really disgusting discovery. This watch is really capable of keeping excellent time. O.K so it took 2 replacements from eBay before I eventually got a watch that has lasted for more than a year and is still going strong. And now I have 2 watches at hand to attempt to make into one good watch. There lies the problem, I've never seen anyone do a strip down and reassembly video of this movement. After looking on eBay to see if anyone there sells this movement, (because I wanted to learn it's name or code number) I came away with the idea that this movement is unique to watch manufacture only and is never sold on the open market. I would think that many who watch your videos would have similar non working junk China watches laying around gathering dust at their homes. (nasal hair included). So would you consider making a video about servicing this movement and so inspiring more to have a go at what could be a very satisfying hobby.?
Though I don't condone cheap movements, they may play a pivotal role in teaching students how to broach larger holes, de-burr, or add dimples to parts that may need a slight 'lift' to work right. And because these are cheap movements, no loss if they get ruined.
I have an ETA 2824 movement and the watch stops after 5 minutes after winding it 40 times. Also the main spring does not seem to be winding from the rotor.
Due to pricing, I have bought several “shanghai eta 2824 clone”. They don’t last long. I have even tried the “vavalon24” clone. Those are better but not perfect. Good for practice but not good for long term. I am sticking with real eta 2824 or 2836 until I can no longer find them at any decent price.
I bought that same movement, it's for sale between US$20 and US$30 on ebay. It really sucks, once I remove the stem it was impossible to put it back, I had to dismantle everything and start again but it keep failing. I give up. I'll buy the seagull clone.
I have to disagree, as the 2824 is outside of patent and copyright, anyone can make a copy/clone and make any changes to it they like. What would make it a counterfeit is if it was marked as ETA, or even Selitta or Seagull. Just because it is copied and done badly doesn’t make it counterfeit.
I understand where you're coming from. And yes, we all know the patents are no longer in effect. That wasn't my point. The selita and seagulls are clones. They're intention is to perform and function in the same way as the 2824 was designed. These movements are not - they are sold as a replacement for the 2824 but the video highlites the fact that they do not perform or function the same way as a true clone. I believe counterfeit (although not bitter. Was a learning experience). People should be warned to spend a little more on a better product and that's what this video serves to do :)
Watch Repair Channel No sorry Mark you still can’t call it a counterfeit. It is a bad copy. Although Selitta and Seagull make copies you cannot really call them clones (a clone should be identical) as the parts are not necessarily compatible ie locating pins about face. The fact is that anyone that buys one of these off EBay for 1/10-1/20 the price of a good movement and expects the same quality is living in cloud coockoo land. No problem with you highlighting the bad quality.
Watch Repair Channel It would also depend on which incarnation of the 2824 was copied as per a number of articles the 2824 has operated with 18,000-36,000 bpm and all points in between.
Interesting point. Counterfeit, to me anyway, means deliberate deception (like marking it as an ETA brand as you point out, or perhaps using same colors for product labels, etc.,), although "intent" is pretty hard to prove legally.
Hi, I dont know where to ask you this: change the battery of ronda 515 with the crown in, not pulled out, and the movement took about 10 seconds to start. Is it normal? Thanks!
Guess we get what we pay for. I have a ETA 28-24 movement in my Glycine Combat Sub that’s less than 1 year old and it doesn’t seem to like being wound that much. Makes the rotor spin and the winding stem feel a bit stiff and grainy (if that makes any sense). Seems it prefers a few winds (about 10) and then the movement of being on the wrist to keep the mainspring wound.
An update to the Clone or counterfeit watch movement - the ETA 2824 movement live stream from a few weeks ago. Have you serviced one of these? What are your thoughts?
How can I identify cheap/fake vs real watches from their movements?

I've been retired from this work 15 yrs now, and I found it Verry interesting mate.
I really enjoyed watching this...it was almost therapeutic.
Great camera work and audio...thank you Mark
This is performance art at its best. Thank you for what you do for the community.
I could watch your videos for hours. That´s so inspiring, educating AND relaxing in one go.... on my 58" TV it looks like railway-rails putting together a tractor´s gearbox. But as I know the parts are extremely tiny.... just love it.

Watching you wind the mainspring was hypnotic. Totally fantastic video. Thank you.

You sir are truly gifted and classy as they come. I enjoyed this video as I am sure to enjoy any videos you upload. Thank you.
Love the way all the components go exactly where they should. When I try you can guarantee springs will spring and screws will disappear over my shoulder.
Putting a watch together makes building a engine seem like child’s play. The parts are so tiny. Love watching these videos.

Good work! :) I watch your videos like a hypnotized man.
And I watch it like a man in a coma pppppfffffttt newb ......dweeb lol 😂😃😉
Your tweezer and fastener handling is mesmerizing! You make it look easy.... Can’t wait to give it a go my self. Great video programming.
Perfect music to play while assembling the movement. As always another awesome video.
Merci beaucoup pour votre aide.
What an awesome video, top notch - topic, camera technic, voice over only when needed and soothing piano. I could watch this for hours hehe
Very informative and entertaining Mark. You have a calming effect when yo describe what you are doing and you exude confidence. I am often spell bound by your videos. Thank You.
I'm going to take your course soon. You are a great teacher!
Great video! I personally built my own watch with a seagull 2842 clone a couple months ago, so I’m very much looking forward to your next video.
Beautiful workmanship.
Once again, I learn something with every video. A+++
Wow the amplitude was 300 pluss thats realy good would live to see how its doing in a year of use !!..great vid !!
Another excellent informative video Mark, with may I say the best incidental music 😎
Great video. Ok the movement is a bastard, weaned in the gutter, but you've lifted in out, adopted it and given it....hope. My lip is trembling now, in a sad/happy way. :)
Well done, looking forward to the seagull!👍🍀

Another great video with lovely accompanying music. Very relaxing.
Damn, what a great video. I don't know how anyone does it, let alone the Chinese with lesser materials.
Lovely camera work, as always.
Very relaxing and helpful video. Many chinese replica watches using these dirty and low quality movements.
Great video. Almost relaxing to watch you re-assemble the watch as bad as it was..
Wtf, who had brains like this. God gifted.
Superbly produced video and content -Thank you for your time and knowledge!
The music fits perfectly. Thanks for the video update!
Your the best mark i learned a lot from you
Another one of your great videos ! Thanks Mark!
Well, darn it! I recently bought one of these. If I has seen this before, I would have spent the extra money for the Seagull.
What a tutor. Great. Great learning points. Thanks.

Really found that video very relaxing indeed. Thank you.
counterfeit of a clone of an original... reminds me of "I'm the dude, playin a dude, disguised as another dude." :D
Another great vid, what cleaning solution do you use?

ETA is part of Swiss Swatch. Now copyright for ETA 2824 are expired, so You can Sellita. Sellita is China owned brand, but production is in Swiss.
These videos make me wish I had trained to become a watchmaker ... :)
Very good video presentation. TH-cam learning is great education.
