It was the horse. A major theme of the show is Tony’s love for animals and indifference towards human life as a violent sociopath. It started with the ducks in the pilot
The video mentions the nature of it, specifically Matthew crying out for his mother before getting shot. Then you have Tony at the mall the next day and some 5-year old kid is calling his mother. P.S. it is harder to watch in 2024 for me because I think of George Floyd calling for his mother before he was killed.
it's tough to watch because he was a young kid who saw Tony as a hero and wanted to prove himself to Tony. And he was indifferent at best to Tony. It's sad because you realize immediately how empty his destiny was and demonstrated Tony's narcissism
Why put such a massive spoiler in the thumbnail? The show may be 25 years old, but it’s such a big one, that a thing like this really hurts the experience.
Tony was killed corleone-style ('members only' guy sitting on a stool at the counter goes n grabs a gat from the diner restroom). The last sight he sees is his family before him (meadow comes through the diner door with the motif of the bell ringing once [and then never] more). This is exemplary as to why this show is still the best thing to come out of TV so far. It's gonna be tough for any other series to ever top The Sopranos.
Check out the Wire. The movie experts say The Wire and Sopranos were the best shows during that time. However, the writing on the Wire was outstanding, and they received several awards for that part.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that it wasn't a great (or even very good) movie, especially when compared to the AMAZING content of The Sopranos, but it was still written (in part) and approved by David Chase, so it wasn't exactly fan-fiction. Besides, it didn't actually CHANGE anything about the original story. Other than the revelation that Junior was responsible for Dickie's death, but even then, it didn't necessarily rewrite anything about the original story. The scene where Tony tells Christopher that Haydu killed his father was always seen as suspicious/untrue, so I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe I'm missing something, as I did only watch TMSON one time, and it was when it first released, so if I'm missing something please let me know. It definitely never said that Dickie was Johnny's and Junior's brother, so I have no idea where @fatmansatchel1017 got that idea.

To say that Tony killed chris to give his daughter a better chance at life without him because he was on drugs is so asinine. Tony is no saint and he definitely did not kill Chris out of some moral obligation to his kid. Tony killed Chris for his own selfish reasons.
When it comes to the retired cop it made little sense for Tony to lie to Chris, he could have just ordered him to do the hit. So I think Tony believed what he said.
I doubt Tony believed it, based on the way he was acting while telling him. If he lied instead of just ordering another hit, he appears to be doing Christopher a favor and giving him closure, therefore buying his loyalty.
Substance abuse disorder? Drug addiction is not a disorder. A disorder is usually something you’re born with. I don’t think any babies are born being addicted to hardcore drugs or alcohol! Don’t try and humanize drug addicts. That is a choice they make for themselves. They can choose to get clean or they can let it consume their lives. It’s their choice. A disorder is not something that people have a choice with. Being an addict is something people have a 100% choice with.
