I have been crocheting for a few years now, I have watched a TON of TH-cam videos. It’s actually how I learnt everything I know about crocheting (LOL) anywho, you explained this better than any video I’ve ever seen! The fact that you explained where to slip stitch and that the chain isn’t a stitch helps sooooo much, especially beginners. I have been wanting to make a few of these baskets, a couple sizes but thank you so much. This is the video I will use. I love the chunkiness that doubling the thick yarn has! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🧶
Oh thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial and found it easy to follow! I too learned to crochet from TH-cam videos so I try to make my videos as easy to follow as possible!
@@TheTurtleTrunk sorry to keep commenting. Before I get to far along, when working into the third loop, the ring that starts the wall, is that going through one, or both strands? I am having a hard time getting my hook into that second strand of yarn. Would it be ok to only go through one if you go through two or will that make it not sturdy?
Yeah I love her tutorials I'm 10 years old and I'm crocheting this basket right now but I want to stop because I wanted to put a comment here about this it's really easy like when I started the first time I used thin yarn and it was like not working because the size of your circle was not the same size as mine so I did three straps but it didn't work so when my mom got me chunky yarn for my birthday I did three straps with the yarn and it works so well thanks for the tutorial
So so happy I found you!!!!!! I have tried to make baskets following other videos and have unraveled them all. Lost stitches/too many stitches (how the heck did that happen???) Now I have a completed basket thanks to your video and teaching style. Love how you put information in top right corner for me to follow. I can see where you are putting the stich AND finally, I get about the chain stitch not counting as a stitch (heard it so many times before but it finally clicked watching your tutorial!!!) Said I would make this one even if it killed me....... dancing round the lounge on a rainy-day cos I have completed my first ever basket!!! Thank you so very much!!! Have now subscribed. Happy days to you from NZ.
I've followed your tutorial and managed to make my basket in one day. Number 1. You're a great teacher! So easy to follow your instructions. Number 2. I've watched so many videos with so difficult patterns when actually yours is super easy to do. THANK YOU !!! I look forward to the next videos ❤️
Beginner-friendly, easy to follow tutorial. This produces beautiful baskets with a nice sturdy base ( unlike other video tutorial where the base comes out wavy). Thanks!❤
Thank you! This is great, and mine turned out! I made it to hang on a hook, so I made it a bit smaller (6.25" base by 8.5" height) with just one handle and finished the top off without the ridge. I used 1 skein of Big Twist t-shirt "yarn" 400g, and there was a small ball left over. I used a 10.00mm N crochet hook. With the yarn I used, I couldn't make the chain above handle loose because that left a big gaping hole. I had to do it a few times to get the tension right. I really like how sturdy it is, especially the handle. I struggled with the magic circle, so I'm glad to have had help at home with that. This was my first time crocheting. Thanks again!
this is by far the clearest, easiest and straight to the point crocheting tutorial , i generally suck at crocheting but my basket looks bomb and was done in one day, this video is great,
Beautiful! I love crocheting baskets! I’m going to make this one, but I think I will double the amount of yarn for the bottom to reinforce it. I do this with most of my baskets. It works well.. Thank you for this tutorial!

I just finished this project, it was my first ever crochet project after just learning to do some basic stiches. It came out too small and not great, but I love it!! I will keep practicing and will come back and try again in a month or so. THANK YOU for your incredible tutorial it was so clear and helpful for a newbie like me! I want to do all the tutorials on your channel now! ⭐⭐🤩🤩🌟🌟
Wow that's incredible this was your first project! Hopefully the next one turns out better, but you should be proud that you were able to follow along! It's possible it turned out too small if your tension is tighter than mine, you can try using a larger hook next time!
Thank you for the idea! I just made this and your instructions are so easy to follow!! I used smaller yarn and changed the dimensions a bit and it still worked, I love this
Just me again, great pattern for a beginner love it and thank you. You know I also have 4 weight yarn, I really didn't like it in a blanket I was making, I probably could use 3 strands. Use a plastic basket from the dollar store with holes. Put a strand in each hole and there you go. Thank you again for the pattern. Hope i didn't bore you.

I love this basket. I'm a crocheter and always wished I had a place to put my in progress projects in. This is perfect. I'm using the Lion Brand Basic Stitches weight 4 yarn 'cause the Lion Brand Hue + Me color sections don't have my favorite colors. My basket is not quite 10 inches yet so I'm adding more rows to get it there then I will work up the sides. I want it to be bigger :0).
Amazing design! Just finished mine and thank you! The tutorial was great. Few questions, how do I make my base straight, mine keeps curving up no matter how many times I do it and could you make a video showing us how to weave in the yarn at the end? Love your video❤

I have made baskets using this method several times now and love it! Although idk why my bottom keeps coming out more rounded 😢 I think it’s the type of yarn i’m using
Hey Ali, this looks absolutely LOVELY! Would you consider making a video tutorial for a square cube style storage basket, kinda like those Ikea ones? I would definitely love to make some of those style baskets!!! But I certainly give this one a try after I get my headband done lol

Made this and love it! Did not use 2 strands but a thicker almost macrame yarn, but crocheted it tight. Can you advise how to make it stiffer, mine is super slouchy.
Excellent and easy to follow your basket pattern! Just what I was looking for though I might use my yarn stash for a mixed up basket :o). Thanks so much!
Thank you for the step by step instructions. Your video is very helpful! I was wondering why you only chain 1 after completing each round? I thought for a half double crochet, you're supposed to chain 2?
This video is so perfect! You make it seem special easy how you explain it ☺️ quick question, if I wanted to have a much bigger basket would i start lets say by making a magic ring of 10 stitches? Or 12/14/16 etc?
Hi! If you wanted to make it larger I would just start the pattern as I did, but work more rounds for the base, so for round 8: HDC x6, 2 HDC. round 9: HDC x7, 2 HDC. round 10: HDC x8, 2HDC... ect. until you reach the size you want! Hope that helps!
I made this and love it. It did go a bit out of shape though. As a beginner I keep getting confused where to start the next row after the chain one. Is it in the same stitch as the chain one, or the next stitch over? Many thanks will be making more of these, hopefully with the correct shape 😂
Hiya, love the video, quick question though (I’m a complete beginner) if you’re doing the same stitch (or what looks like the same stitch to me) why do you need to do it four times and then two times? Wouldn’t it just be, ‘do HDC’s 40 times’ ? Tia x
I’m wondering if you can do this pattern but use macrame cord instead? If so, would I still need to double up on the strands? Or would it work if I used 1 strand?
I’m a pretty new crocheter and haven’t ever done something like this before. This has been super helpful! If I wanted to make the basket bigger than 10 inches, could I just keep doing the 5 HDC and the 2 HDC every 6th stitch?
Hi! If you want to make the base larger you can have to increase by 8 more stitches each round, so for round 8: HDC x6, 2 HDC. round 9: HDC x7, 2 HDC. round 10: HDC x8, 2HDC... ect. Hope they helps!
Hi there! I absolutely love your videos and I've done quite a few of them - hairbands, beanies, pot holders, hand towels, and coasters as presents for friends and family and they love it thank you!!! I have begun this basket and i am wondering if you have a pattern for a larger version, something that can be used as a kids' laundry basket perhaps? Thank you!! 🙏
Thank you so much for your support! At the moment I do not have a larger basket pattern but I can definitely add that to my list for a future tutorial!
@@TheTurtleTrunk Thank you! I'm pleased to share that I managed to make a large basket (about 15" tall and 13.5" base diameter), and it's all thanks to your tutorial! I also did the bracken bag for my friend ❤
This is a beautiful basket. Thanks for sharing this pattern and your instructions are easy to follow. How do I prevent the walls from curling inwards? I'm using a 6 weight yarn with a 6.5 mm hook. Thanks 😊
Hi Bernadette! Are the walls curling in because the walls are too flimsy or do they look sturdy? They may curl inwards if your stitches are too tight so you may want to go up a hook size or 2. But if the walls seem too flimsy and floppy, you may need to go down a hook size so that they're stiff. If you're using a 6 weight yarn, I would think you may need to use a larger hook than a 6.5mm, I'm thinking an 8mm will work better. Hope that helps! If you have Instagram, you can send me a photo of your basket so I can see how it's looking and may be able to help resolve the issue better. My instagram handle is @theturtletrunk
I just finished one! Had the same issue had to frog a couple of rows. After The slip stitch and chain one was where I kept messing up. First HDC is stitched where the chain 1 is. I kept rewinding, zooming and watching where she started the first HDC, I was skipping that first one. Hope that helps.
Hi! You can us one but your basket will be more flimsy and not hold it's shape as well. If you use a single strand of super bulky (6) weight yarn it will hold better.
Beautiful work! With the amount of yards that you used (196y of A, 78y B, and 116 of C), does that include both strands together or single skeins? Each skein comes as 137y. So should I get two or Four skeins to make the 196y? I plan to make a 10" x 10" and a 14" x 22" and trying to figure out if I should double the skeins yards according to what you have. Thanks!
This basket is so beautiful! It's my next project. I really love your videos. With your explications, I feel like I could do any project. If I want to crochet this basket with only one color, how many balls of yarn would be necessary? Thank you!
Hello. I like your work and I wanted to do it... But there's no bulky yarn available here in the philippines. Is it okay if I use chunky yarn? Your work is amazing!
So I made this, and it’s cool. I noticed that the line going up the side where I finished each round goes diagonally up to the right, not straight up the side. Is that just from me pulling to the right too much?
That's normal! Because we're joining and chaining at the end of each row, that will cause the join line to be diagonal. I like to work my joins quite tight and I find that helps the line be less noticeable
@@Value1lady when you start you can pull from two skeins, then when those run out, you can take the third skein and unwind half of it to create a new ball, then pull from the new ball and the other half of the skein. Hope that makes sense!
@@Value1lady you can use any bulky (5) weight yarn! Some good options would be Loops & Threads Charisma, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Chunky, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek Chunky, or Bernat Maker Home Dec. You could also try subbing for one strand of super bulky (6) weight yarn like Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick or Bernat Blanket yarn!

@@TheTurtleTrunk tysm it absolutely helps *.* love this pattern had to buy it to support :)
I made this and love it. It did go a bit out of shape though. As a beginner I keep getting confused where to start the next row after the chain one. Is it in the same stitch as the chain one, or the next stitch over? Many thanks will be making more of these, hopefully with the correct shape 😂
Hi! So happy you enjoyed it! You work the 1st stitch into the same stitch as the chain 1
Hiya, love the video, quick question though (I’m a complete beginner) if you’re doing the same stitch (or what looks like the same stitch to me) why do you need to do it four times and then two times? Wouldn’t it just be, ‘do HDC’s 40 times’ ? Tia x
Never mind, I understand now 😂
I’m wondering if you can do this pattern but use macrame cord instead? If so, would I still need to double up on the strands? Or would it work if I used 1 strand?
I think since macrame cord is so stiff you’d only need one strand
I’m a pretty new crocheter and haven’t ever done something like this before. This has been super helpful! If I wanted to make the basket bigger than 10 inches, could I just keep doing the 5 HDC and the 2 HDC every 6th stitch?
Hi! If you want to make the base larger you can have to increase by 8 more stitches each round, so for round 8: HDC x6, 2 HDC. round 9: HDC x7, 2 HDC. round 10: HDC x8, 2HDC... ect. Hope they helps!
@@TheTurtleTrunk Oh thank you so much! That is really helpful
So do u unravel the entire yarn and then double it and keep? Or is there some method to it? .thanks for the pattern. So well explained
Hi! I just pulled from 2 skeins of yarn. Or you can ball up half a skein as well
Jessica in finale ❤️🌹♥️ 👍
Question! If i want to make a larger basket, how do i know when to add 1 stich or 2 to the base rounds?
I've made 2 of these now. Idk what the issue is but following your instructions step by step I am ALWAYS one stitch short each row........
Crochet basket
I just finished one! Had the same issue had to frog a couple of rows. After The slip stitch and chain one was where I kept messing up. First HDC is stitched where the chain 1 is. I kept rewinding, zooming and watching where she started the first HDC, I was skipping that first one. Hope that helps.
For the two stands on yarn, are you unraveling your skein or using two skeins?
Hi thank you so much for this tutorial I will be making this basket soon! But do I need to have two strings of yarn together or can just use one?
Thanks!
Hi! This yardage is the total yardage needed so you’d need a total of 196yards for color A so only 2 skeins! Hope that helps!
This basket is so beautiful! It's my next project. I really love your videos. With your explications, I feel like I could do any project. If I want to crochet this basket with only one color, how many balls of yarn would be necessary? Thank you!
So happy you enjoy it! You would need almost 3 skeins of Hue + Me or 390 yards.
@@TheTurtleTrunk So for one basket, it would take 3 balls in total, but I split the third one in two because I need two strands of yarn?
@@camilletouzin4451 yes!
@@TheTurtleTrunk thank you 🥰 can't wait to start this project 😍.
Hello. I like your work and I wanted to do it... But there's no bulky yarn available here in the philippines. Is it okay if I use chunky yarn? Your work is amazing!
Hi! Yes chunky yarn should work!
So I made this, and it’s cool. I noticed that the line going up the side where I finished each round goes diagonally up to the right, not straight up the side. Is that just from me pulling to the right too much?
So looking close at yours, it’s diagonal too, just less obvious where the rounds started and stopped 😂
That's normal! Because we're joining and chaining at the end of each row, that will cause the join line to be diagonal. I like to work my joins quite tight and I find that helps the line be less noticeable
Is it possible to use 3 strands of number 4 yarn together for this? If so what hook size
Hi! Yes that should work with the same hook size!
Thank you!
Hi how many skeins would I need of just one color? I want to make one in just one color. Thanks. Can’t wait to make one! Looks so easy!
If you’re using Hue + Me, you’ll need 3 skeins! You’ll need a total of 390 yards and 3 skeins will give you 411 yards.
@@TheTurtleTrunk how do i use 2 strands with only 3 skeins im sorry im a new crocheter
@@Value1lady when you start you can pull from two skeins, then when those run out, you can take the third skein and unwind half of it to create a new ball, then pull from the new ball and the other half of the skein. Hope that makes sense!
@@TheTurtleTrunk I will let you know if it doesn’t when I start. Another question is if I do not use the Hue & Me yarn which other yarn can I use?
@@Value1lady you can use any bulky (5) weight yarn! Some good options would be Loops & Threads Charisma, Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Chunky, Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek Chunky, or Bernat Maker Home Dec. You could also try subbing for one strand of super bulky (6) weight yarn like Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick or Bernat Blanket yarn!
Can i use a smaller hook ? I cant find my L hook, but i have a J and K. How much of a difference is that going to make ? For either one ?
Could I use a different thicker yarn instead? I’m new to crocheting and so a little nervous about having to double it up.
❤ love this ❤
great video, love the pattern, but is there a written one?
Yes! I shared the free pattern for this on the Clover USA blog as part of a collaboration, here is the link: blog.clover-usa.com/2022/02/18/brecken-basket-crochet-pattern/
I made my basket slightly bigger. I have 88 st instead of 56. How do I count the amount of stitches to make the handles?
