George wrote, produced, composed, arranged and played/engineered all instruments in this song. When you say this is George Michael's song, you REALLY mean it's George Michael's song! In fact, the time it took him from writing it to recording the final cut was within 8 hours!
George was top tier singer. One of the greatest singers ever. Also was found out after his passing how generous he was donating huge amounts of money to hospitals, homeless and such. Had so much character

This song was out in 1988, when my 6 year old nephew was dying. I can’t hear it without getting really emotional even 35 years later. I’ve had to walk out of shops when I’ve heard this playing. The power of music. Always in my thoughts, Ryan. 💙

This songs starts the tears off everytime I hear it, the pain in George's voice just tears my heart apart. Our man was beautiful in every sense of the word 💕
His voice was just sublime. I was lucky enough to see him perform this song live in Orlando, FL on the Faith tour. He sounded just like this recording. No autotune. I also saw him in London on the Symphonica Tour. I’m so glad I was there for both.
It took me years to really appreciate what a good song this is and how talented he really was.
I think this was the song he was most proud of from the Faith album. He was such a gifted songwriter. He said he thought he got his empathy from his mother.

I always felt like that iconic part of the song sounded like someone who was wounded, hurt. I am sure that was the intended effect. I miss you George, RIP. Imagine him singing in the bathroom, the acoustics would be phenomenal. A beautiful, incredible voice. It took years to break his music contract, and sadly not long left to enjoy the benefits of this judicial win.

He had the greatest voice there is, I do agree with you that I think he is the greatest singer he is my favorite and he always will be. I love him so much. I miss him. whenever. I need something to make me feel better. I just listen to him. I really can’t say enough good things about them, but there aren’t enough good things to say about him

I agree wholeheartedly I love hearing that song. He makes me joyful and sad at the same time. Praying for Time is still my favourite especially when he sang it live in later years as he adapted the song for live performances.

I like your response to the song. I think the live version from the Concert of Hope 1993 is better than the studio version, because it has gospel elements in it and the song has a much more complex effect.

This song is also about relationships and people.
George wrote what was true for him. His experiences and his loss always we're told through his lyrics. George wrote arranged and produced and played most of the instruments on all his music. He was a complete and utter genius. And he was beautiful to look at an amazing to listen to. This is a heartbreaking song with all the passion vulnerability and honesty he could have delivered.
I will always remember the first time I heard this song. I was in a car going to a meeting in about 1988 and I was late, but this song came on and I was blown away. I had no idea who George Michael even was. I stayed in my car to the very end and luckily heard who the singer was. I couldn't believe it was the guy from Wham. I was lucky to see him in concert in Oakland in 1993. He was amazing.

Love this song. My interpretation that there are people who are your " teacher" but they bring pain. And just because they hurt you and make your heart cold and bitter but the next lesson is to forgive and move on to learn again.

This is one of those songs that, to this day, hits me so deeply. When you go through a devastating heartbreak, and are struggling to pick up the pieces, you don't even want to think of anyone else, or opening yourself up again. Eventually you do open yourself up for another try...... and possibly another.... and another..... until, eventually, you either find someone lasting, or you've given your last try and give up completely. The heart can only be broken so many times. Each time seems to take longer to mend. Aging and time steal some of your dreams away, as they become no longer possible...... this song cuts as deeply today as it did three decades ago. George really knew how to put raw emotion into his singing.
This album came out when I was 9 and this was one of the first songs that made me realize how intense adult love was.
