Ousama Ranking is definitely going to be the most underrated show this season considering how people will likely think it's a kid's show because of its art style, when in fact it's the complete opposite. It has amazing animation and is far above almost every other anime this season in terms of storytelling. The recent episodes have been very dark, and it completely overturns any cliches you'd expect, and piles plot twists upon plot twists. Every single character, including the jealous younger brother ( the apparent antagonist from the beginning), is well-written and non-cliche.
Edit: Still an amazing show, but the details I mentioned about the younger brother were incorrect and there’s actually far better antagonism written in.

True. Initially, I thought it was a kid's show but after trying it out, me being blown away is an understatement. Definitely a contender for AOTY. As someone who was bullied during highschool, the story and character of Boji connects with me on so many level and second eps in, and I was crying buckets.

This season is jam packed with a lot of amazing shows, however I need to give more recognition to Ousama Ranking, came in thinking it was a kids show and boy am i dead wrong. It has one of the best storytelling i encountered so far anmd with banger music, it is definitely a show you must watch this season

I've been waiting for an anime adaptation of _Komi-san_ for YEARS, and was not disappointed. The animation is gorgeous, as well the music and voice acting. Better than I could ever expect.
But my biggest surprise was also _Ousama Ranking._ The cute aesthetics hide the incredible depth this series has. I had no idea it has been around since 2017 in its digital manga form.
Komi-san is the most boring generic trash this season. All of the characters are tropey and are never funny. This show is garbage.

Of all the anime this season Ousama Ranking stands out to me the most. It will go down as a cult classic and I will be recommending it for years to come. The art style may throw people off but it truly is a great show that will have you wanting the next episode each week, which is a rare feeling for me after some 20+ years of anime watching. The way it subverts expectations without being cliche deus ex and shows the characters as being more than what you initially see them as really works well. The art style definitely plays no small role in this either as it is an art style we typically associate with very specific cliche stories from our childhood. It may well be the reason they chose that art style in the first place and if so then I take my hat off to them because it was a true 4D chess move.

Gave it a shot. Overall, I enjoyed it but there were some things I didn't like as well. I'd say it's current rating on Mal is fitting, if a bit high. As for the things I didn't like:
- I've never been a fan of time skips. That show did it consistently and always ended the episode on a high tension point which you don't get to see resolved. You know it resolved as the story continues and those characters are still alive but I don't enjoy skipping the resolution after so much buildup.
**SPOILER TERRITORY** (sorry can't avoid it)
- The second is the main female lead, Biwa, who has the ability to see the future. We never see her try and fail to prevent a future prediction yet she acts as if she has. She makes no attempt to reveal the future until the very end of the series and it's only after everyone is already dead.
- The last has to do with the narration which always comes in to gloss over major events and tell it without showing it. Often showing random bits of scenery before cutting to later conversation after x or y battle has occurred. The only exception being the final battle at the end of the series.
This series reminds me a LOT of Katanagatari but it lacks in many areas where that series got it right. I'd maybe recommend this series to those who really enjoyed Katanagatari and want something similar but would definitely recommend Katanagatari first and foremost.

And once again, Gigguk has shown me this season was stacked without my knowledge. I swear the older i get, the less i detect. Thanks for doing this for us Gigguk. Round of applause and a sugary item of choice for the man who actually takes the time to watch and review entire seasons of anime, then proceeds to compile a list of highlights in addition to making a light summarizing review of their appeal all while remaining true to his style. The amount of effort he puts in this is friggin' nuts.
Honestly, you could discover 95% of this by going to r/anime and look at their weekly rankings every couple of months
I just need a second to show my appreciation for Gigguk, he’s what really got me into anime. I watched a few shows like Naruto and SAO and then I saw his videos because I wanted to seek more, his jokes are so well planned and fit right into my humor and I found myself watching his videos sometimes more than actually watching anime, I for a sense of community in his videos and comment sections and even just in how he coordinates the jokes with that memes are going around as well as his sublime editing and detail in his videos showing that he truly cares. These videos made me want to be an anime fan, I found a medium that not only has whatever genre I wanted to watch, an extreme appreciation for animation itself like mine, but also a new world I could explore and these videos really helped me dive into the medium. I hope everyone has a great thanksgiving and a great day as well. ( sorry I submitted it but then later I found myself rephrasing a few things )

Ranking of Kings is, no cap, one of the best shows this year. It has all the building blocks to be a Greatest of All Time contender. Bojji is everyone's son and we have to protect him. Kage is the best tough older brother anyone could ask for. Watch it, it's worth it.

That one scene in Komi san can’t communicate where they write on the board was probably one of the most beautiful anime scenes I’ve seen all year. It was silent yet so powerful.
I, no joke, recommended my mom watch that it just so she could see that scene. like, the only anime she's seen are Girls Last Tour and Kino's Journey. that scene is at that level of quality in my view.

This is a big reason I prefer Gigguk to most of the other guys on the Trash Taste set. Joey's too far up his own ass, and Connor's pretty close to that same point. Garnt really feels like the only one of them who understands that the fame doesn't matter, and could all go away tomorrow, and knows how to stay at least Somewhat humble about it.

I don't know if this is just peak comedy or you meet my humor but I don't know either when the last time was I laughed so much because of a video. Pls stay as you are. This is perfection
To anyone still hesitant on Ranking of Kings, give it the ol' 3 episode rule. I checked it out cause it's ratings seemed unnaturally high for what I dismissed as a kids show. But it turned out to be one of my favorites for the season. I'm genuinely impressed at how so many seemingly unimportant, 1-dimensional characters have managed to get so much depth and development in such a short period of time. Almost every character is more than meets the eye and the world building is fantastic.
*Mild Spoiler Alert*
The obnoxiously harsh step-mother character turned out to have a heart of gold who only wants to protect her step-son just as much as her actual son. I was so used to that character trope being introduced as intolerable and remaining that way, that it really caught me off guard with how they managed to completely erase my hate for her in so few episodes.
Honestly, Im not sure which is better: The new anime every season or the new Gigguk seasonal video.

Please everyone, if you want more masterpieces like Great Pretender, Vivy and now Ranking of Kings, please go out there and support this studio. They’ve been thoroughly screwed over in the past year (and possibly longer) despite pumping out absolutely incredible shows year after year

Everyone needs to support them. So the production committees can take all the extra money, studio's will get basically nothing. And the animators can continue to live in poverty, while working unhealthy work hours
If we band together we can make the already rich committee executives even richer off the exploitation of animators.

Heike Monogatari is so criminally underrated that it didn't even make it to the list. It's beautiful and it has probably one of the best OSTs of the year. Directed by Naoko Yamada and Composed by Kensuke Ushio, you know it's a masterpiece in making.

from learning science, to learning how to write basic generic isekai/fantasy, to advertising himself through controversy, to advertising himself through theanimeman, to casually creatin "world's finest assassin" with such a quality that gather even more fan
like i have never seen any other author just casually pull such a chad move before

Ranking of Kings definitely caught me off guard. I didn’t expect how good the plot is, it’s like Game of Throne if it was made by Ghibli
I'm surprised too. I just hope this anime isn't Wit studio's last passionate project because I've heard they lost alot of money last and this year due to the pandemic. Wit is filled with some truly passionate and hardworking people and seeing the studio in stuggle hurts considering they've made such amazing gems like Vinland Saga, AOT S1, S2 and S3, Vivy Fluorite's Eye's Song and so mucn more (including Ranking of Kings).

This has turned out to be a surprisingly solid season of anime thus far. *"Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi"* and *"Taishou Otome Otogibanashi"* are very enjoyable for those looking for a cute romcom, while *"Takt Op. Destiny"* and *"Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu"* are cool sci-fi shows that do their own thing. My favorite show of the season is definitely *"Sakugan"* though, it has such a cool world mixed with some great characters and brilliant comedy. Might seriously be a contender for anime of the year for me!
Agreed, this has definitely been the season of “didn’t expect much but this show is surprisingly good!” Thought it was good to be another Summer 2021 but that’s not been the case.
A lot of the sleeper shows didn’t have an appealing synopsis and visual/PV but are executed well. Includes but is not limited to:
- World’s Finest Assassin
- My Senpai is annoying
-Ranking of Kings
Compared to last season this one is 2018 level. Still, there are not a lot of great shows, but the few great are really good.
Sakugan litteraly has 3 or 4 episodes out wtf are you talking about
And no love (or even a passing curiosity) to Super Crooks made by BONES.

OP assasin reincarnation thing is the biggest surprise this season. Its definitely not the best show of the season, but despite being a "template isekai' with an overpowered proatgonist and a harem, its especially interesting. The OP main character seems to have real long term threats (the godess and her uncertain motives, an overpowered hero to defeat, hints at other reincarnated op people). The magic and skills system is legitimately interesting. And, as a side note, the opening visuals are just great.

The first Isekai I watched and liked was Tsukimichi. Is the one you're talking about more like that or more like SAO or something.

Guys, trust me and give Ousama ranking a watch. The show genuinely gives me that masterpiece vibe when I only watched the first episode. Wholesome moments, incredible story telling and pituresque scenes with old school art, the show is packed with actions too. It's truly a gem!

I remember watching mr garnt's anime in 2013 part 2 when I was 8 on my old family computer, it opened my eyes (whether you take that as good or bad because I was watching shit like that when I was.... 8...) to so much more anime than one piece, naruto, dbz, etc..
I remember showing my friends the classic "Tokyo ghoul in x minutes" and me losing it over the "I'm not kaneki, I'm Kan-edgy joke." As a 10-12 something year old while they just stare at me like I'm crazy
This channel filled the void in my childhood where I just didn't have friends who watched anime with and I couldn't be more thankful for that
This channel also strengthened my bond with my highschool friends who love anime, we would watch the "__ in x minutes" and the anime year reviews during recess, and that played such a big part in our friendship
Also let me just say that your editing, narration, and choice of words got progressively better as the years went on.
Anyways, I'm in my senior year of highschool now and I just wanna say how thankful I am of the videos that you produce all the time, I would have been internally miserable without your videos keeping me company, making my lows bearable and my highs way more enjoyable
I'm aiming to graduate at the top of my class, which is very likely already and I'm gonna owe (most of it) to you, for keeping me company from when I was a kid, making 8 year old me feel like I'm not alone in the world.
Even up to now, I work out to either your videos or trash taste.

Is it just the way Garnt described it or is Platinum End literally just Future Diary with Light as the MC.
MC is pretty much the anti-light. Not especially clever, manipulative, or bloodthirsty. He's alright, but nothing special. The show is ok so far, but not great, and some of the best parts are just recycled from Death Note. I'm kinda disappointed.
Fingers crossed for platinum end not getting a cop out ending like mirai Nikki.
I literally said the same thing when I read its description.

To be fair because we rarely get light fantasy story that is not Isekai recently I can't really blame him.
Many of the anime youtubers think it is, there's even fall anime lists online that state it as being one. This happens with fantasy anime once and a while, like how some people think Goblin Slayer is an isekai.
Isekai are so much hated that people just like to bash out normal Fantasy animes as well

I didn't know it had an anime cuz I was hooked on the first chapter. The art style is unique, so it was a refreshing change.
