- We went wild camping into the deep woods where we had a very rainy night in the tents. Unfortunately my tent started leaking halfway through the night. It was coming straight through the material as a sort of fine mist. The rain was pretty heavy all night, it was enough to test even the best tents.

I had a similar thing with my nordisk telemark 2lw last week. I'm putting it down to condensation.
Will the fabsil let the tent breath ?
@@lessismore83009 yes go for fabsil gold which is extra strength then give your tent 2 coats, even the cheapest leaking tent will be waterproof using this stuff along with seam seal.
Looked like a perfect spot for maximum condensation - stream in a grassy wood = 100% humidity overnight, never mind added rain too. IMO it’s more likely the little beads of water are condensation which then drops onto the inner tent. They look like rain coming through but aren’t. Do you mop the condensation with a cloth? Best solution would be to avoid pitching near water. Choose well drained land, with air flow. Trees always increase humidity and they block the breeze so open hillside would be much better. 😃
Oh it was definitely a damp spot plenty of moss all over the trees. The tent was a strange one though because it looked like a fine drizzle inside the tent. When it's condensation it's on the fly rather than the inner. Well it's had a waterproofing ng now so we'll see how it goes next time
'Mr wild wales gets wet' - sounds like a top shelf adult dvd from back in the day 🤣🤣 , but seriously good wee camp mate , sometimes these things happen when camping , its just one of those things when your a wild camper , i always have my sleeping bag inside my old bivvy bag usually just in case my tent fails 👍🏕

Q: How many Staffs in the UK are called Tyson? I know of 7 now....lol. (3 German Shepherds called well-hard too). Not the best place to find out your tent is a part time colander. I take a small basha with for such occasions - just to drape over the tent until the next day. A day in a field is good, get all the tents out, get them wet and see what needs doing them a massive spray session of the old Fabsil. I do a double coating if need be on the Fly.
Well-hard is from the film Twin Town 😂 I don't think I know any Tyson's though ha. Pretty sure all my current tents are waterproof but I guess I'll find out if I'm wrong

@@MrWildWales I've stayed in cottages and on camp sites around Llangollen but never camped wild. North Wales feels like a second home to me.

Had similar experience with crap tent, luckily had snugpak poncho which I used as bivy over me and sleeping bag. Diolch brawd 👍

I love a good Pasta 'n Sauce, they're absolute lifesavers and taste pretty good!
Shame about the weather 🌧️🌧️, must be annoying with a fine mist rather than a drop every now and then. But you seemed to handle it pretty well!
The pasta and sauce was lovely actually and easy to make. It was mainly coming through on my face as there's a mesh inner door. I managed to get most of my face in the sleeping bag and forget about it until morn 😂

Great spot there by the stream. I've avoided the rain by tarping over the bivi, or tent if ever heavy rain is forecast. Not visited your channel before this so will have a binge watch. ATB

That's what I was going to say, tarp on top. I'm going to start doing that aswell. That way it's only the tarp needing dried off and more protection. Liked and subscribed. Good vid, pity about the tent.

Not really no 😂 this tent is currently hanging on the line after being dunked in a bucket of fabsil! Should be way better next trip

You know that BCB stove you use with the fire dragon blocks.Ditch the blocks.Get some insolation out of your attic.Wrap a bit of kitchen stainless steel scourer wool around the insolation and pack it tight in were the fire block sits.Ive done it to mine.Burns twice as good and twice as long with a good strong glow from the wire wool .And cheaper to run.Get 2 liters of Bio Ethanol from b&q and pour a bit of that in there. Awesome stuff mate for a good burn in them BCB stoves.I carry Bio Ethanol in a small plastic drinks bottle on camp outs.

It's had a treatment now should be fine. The problem is they are too focused on the weight these days!

I had a nice sleep by it but it was pretty loud
Time to bin it if it leaks. I've never had one that leaks. Definitely not messing with seam sealer..
It's had a fabsil bath I don't think it was the seams that were the issue 👍
not had much luck last 2 camps, maybe keep a dd tarp in your pack could have put that over tent keep rain out 👍

What tent was your mate using? Reminds me of a Ultimate Hobo? Anyway, as you say a good soaking in trusty old Fabsil should do the trick! ATB from deepest Dorset 👍

It was condensation. As the rain hits the fly, it causes small shockwaves that send off a fine mist of water below.
Fabsil will replenish the DWR but won't make a non waterproof tent waterproof and won't help condensation.
In these conditions... There's nothing you can do. Use a bivvy bag to protect your bag and dry bags to protect your gear.
Hmm maybe you're right there! Though I have made a gazebo waterproof by painting fabsil on it before now. There was definitely a lot of moisture in the air this trip
Your not having much luck on the water front 🤣🤣 get yourself a Vango Cairngorm, or any Vango for that matter! We swear by them! It makes your videos fun to watch though! 🤭
I've actually just picked up a Vango Nevis from eBay so expect to see that soon! I'm always trying out new stuff though so expect more things going wrong 😅

The lanshans gone unfortunately I was going to swap it for a lanshan 2 but I'm going to wait until spring until I get that now. Nice idea on the arm bands 😂
At it again son !, Tip. If ya not sure of your tent, due to quality or " Dodgy seem sealing", take an army bivi with you. You can then get your gear inside that and stay dry what ever happens. I always carry one as a Last resort. Has always served me well bud.

@@albert21able yup im ex regular, i dont go stealth camping with my tent without my bivi bag and tarp they pack down small and weigh little. Better to have and not need than to need and not have, i also wouldnt go anywhere near a canvas tent after a similar school trip
Sorry to see your Tiger Paws Lite leaking. It looks like much thinner material than the old version. I don't remember my old one ever leaking like that, but then again, I'm not sure I ever used it in very heavy rain. The flysheet definitely seems thicker than yours though. How much does yours weigh? I think the old one was 2kg. Also, did the Phreak stand up to the rain okay? Looks like it was a good test. Great spot too.
It's been soaked in a bucket of fabsil now so I think it will be ok from now on. It's 1.5kg. I could only feel it coming through on my face because there's mesh panels by the door of the inner. The phreak was fine he's put silnet on the seams which looks really good and thick and nikwaxed the rest of it

Yeah only Dartmoor is 'allowed' but I've seen a video of somebody camping on a place called Chrome Hill in Shropshire if that's closer to you.
Basically I can't go camping in London because it would cost me loads to get anywhere suitable..
never mind the fab seal use johnsons water seal it works just as good ,,in fact throw that tent away and use a cex , I use the cex coyote 111 with the wife, no problems tons of room and a hydro head of 5000 .
I haven't seen the Johnsons stuff. The coyote looks good maybe a bit big for me though. Mind you wait and see how big the next tent I'm camping out in is 🤣⛺

It's the Tiger Paws lite. It seemed to be the material they used for the flysheet. It's been soaked in fabsil now and I'm pretty much certain it will be fine from now on

I haven't found a comfy hammock to sleep in yet. I think if I had a bigger one with a quilt I might be ok
@@MrWildWales my first hammock as an ex military one which was tiny and I regularly fell out of, nothing wrong with a DD, nice big tarp on top and you have plenty of room for activities!🤣🤣

This sleeping bag is the Mountain Warehouse Everest Down. It's very warm but the build quality is not brilliant
I had a 4 season one from them on sale. Didn't find it warm to be honest and it was about 10c. Have you done a video on bags?

I remember eating a lot of Vesta curries back in the day, real freeze dried meat. Have you eaten any of those lately? Apparently they're not so easy to find these days and are rather pricey. Nothing like a Beef Vindaloo before bed on a winter's camping trip! Take some spring onions and mushrooms to add to the flavour.
I had a chow mein from vesta last time. They used to be the number one camping food!

It's had a good soak in fabsil now! I did try to put the umbrella over but it didn't stay up lol. Just you wait next week I'll stay dry 😂
