- After a busy couple of months getting the FV4005 Finished for Tank Fest Its finally time to get back to all the other ongoing projects we had to put to one side.
But sadly the first job was to fix the poorly Bentley.
Huge Thanks to Flying Spares for all the parts we needed.
If you own a Classic Rolls Royce or Bentley be sure to look them up for parts.

Tonight's star prize!!
It's Jim Bowen's old Bentley!
Lovely, super, smashing, great!!
For those of us who had dealings with him, he was a bastard.

The way you go straight to the point , no padding, is just brilliant. Real men doing what we would do if we werent so lazy
"Real men" lol. OK.
I would recommend having the chassis checked for integrity as the vehicle has inevitably spent an inordinate amount of time towing caravans and speedboats to / from television studio. Better to be safe than sorry 👍
Nothing in this game for two in a bed.
@@diamondderek848 Oh Matron!
Mooo!
Flying spares are legends, did my dad's silver shadow 2 with pretty much all bits from them. Service bits to an entire interior!
I was a GM tech in the US for several years, it sucked, so I went back to truck driving, I feel your pain. Beautiful automobile, I look forward to the T-34.
Yep, farmers are experts at finding cheaper ways of doing things. Helped my dad change a power steering pump on a Rover 820. Took us 7 hours, including 2 making the special tool we needed to do the job.
Great, Smashing, Super , and you could have won the speedboat but you got the car instead!
The shop is very tidy, Ted friendly
Sympathy from the USA! In my younger years I worked on some UK cars, LR model 109 (parts are hell to get), MG As and I found out with some friends that the best way (almost the only) to get the motor out of a bugeye Sprite was to have a really big, strong guy straddle the engine bay and grab the loosened motor while the rest of us scrambled to secure it when he stood up straight. Don't even ask me about how you had to rebalance the carbs after changing the spark plugs on a Lotus Europa and then go to a chiropractor for the rest of your life because you had to dangle yourself upside down/sideways to get to the engine bay. Tanks must be a lot calmer to work on.
I'm liking your plans for our Old Mate ... "Concrete Chieftain". Can't wait for what's ahead lads. Cheers fm 🇦🇺
👍😁🇦🇺 Me too.
We want a video of the mad professor Land Rover
Soon
@@MrHewes have you talked to the guy with the Meteorite Landy? th-cam.com/video/eAHIDAtaFI8/w-d-xo.html
But it will make us dizzy again with it's sheer nonsense
Had a 1995 Turbo R. Did about 9.5k miles a year in it. Looked after by Ray Hillier of Hiller Hill in Olney. Flying Spares are the boys.
Jim Bowen's Bentley is a national treaure, thank you for restoring it to its rightful glory and prominence in the nations heart.
I suggest you fab a thin sheet metal wrap around the frame and the oil line. This could eliminate those tie wraps but secure and protect the hose.
I bet the car rides better too.
Cheers
Good to see you back after all the FV turmoil, I know everyone has been bangin' on about it but I will be pleased to see the T34/85 progressing.
To be fair Joe; I couldn't give two fucks what you upload I will still watch it with joy.
Don't ever stop, and v soon quarter million subs, the whole team richly deserve it.
Especially the hound.❤❤
Ted, please tell Mr Hewes the springy up and down things are called dampers. Dampeners are what rain does to working outdoors.
Very grateful we don't have icing issues /salt on the roads here in Australia. The old Bentley is a tank in its own right. Nice vid mate. Cheers.
Always a pleasure - thank you for sharing.
It can be as old and rusty as it is, but it is still a wonderful looking car 🏴👍🏻
-agreed, provided you don’t look too closely!
Man, I've really started to love this channel after finding it only a few weeks ago. Great stuff. Hope the Tour de France goes well! :D
How DARE you not mention the chief technician and foreman, Ted!
He was away on a Walk during this video 😅
@@MrHewes Who was he walking?
Nice quickie repair on Bentley. Looking forward to you getting on with your projects now the FV005 is now finished. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Super tank project, be really nice when done , thanks for sharing Joe
Welcome back. Straight into it
Great repair,of the spring and demper @ the Bentley 😎 . And the explaining off the work is to come, I loved to see the next video's❤
Brilliant video as always, thank you. The Bentley is a life work for sure, have some fun along the way. Looking forward to the next installment of the epic saga, cheers.
Geweldige filmpjes, ik geniet er elke keer weer van
Brilliant. I bought a lovely Turbo R about a month ago and the first two problems I had to sort were exactly the same! I got my parts from my friendly Bentley Rolls Royce breakers near Leeds.
If your still worried about the tire wearing the hose just cut a stainless pipe in half and make a shield over the hose.
All the best from Surrey BC Canada
Before Lady Diana married Prince Charles the television cameras would follow her around her Metro car and tell us how she was such a humble woman from basic upbringing with her dad being a farmer I think it was said. A farmer with over 10,000 acres of land. Such a humble background.
😂
Never a dull moment with you ,working on a Bentley ,or a Rover or a tank it's great stuff interesting as all hell keepem coming Brilliant videos mate
Any video you make is a good one. Thanks for sharing.
Very impressive shop , great video / update
Just lovely watching - cheers!
Great video good to see you getting back into it.
Cheers Joe, greatly enjoy your videos!
After an incredible few weeks/months normal service resumes at Ted's garage. Foreman Joe proves his skills at the best of British engineering and presents the coming programme. Fantastic, welcome back!!
"Ted's Workshop" needs to be a sign on the back wall.
That front spring is as big as Jack!
Glad to hear the T34 project is back on. Thats a good watch
Nice job!
That was cool 😎. Like to see more of your car.
Good to see you free to pursue other projects again!
Keep it up... another great video! Liking the engineering solutions for the broke Bentley....look forward to hearing the exhaust on the concrete Chieftain....
Brilliant. Don't forget to have a holiday too, someday.
I work for several years, restoring British cars in America. One of the jokes we always had were Rolls-Royce which is Bentley are designed by six-year-old school kids with no concept of a vehicle. Especially the brake and hydraulic suspension systems. That one you’ve got there is no exception. It has front springs bigger than my 1988 Ford F350 Dually has in the front. it has a 5000 pound GVW front axle in it. That is an appropriate car for you kid, It’s built like a tank.
Ted needs a pay rise or more beer money .🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺👍
Nice to be back in the shop. Looking forward to the upcoming video's. Better clean my tools up. Gonna be busy.
Flying spares is a brilliant name for that company!
Good, you copperslipped the strut, your learning, well done.
Might think about putting some form of cushioning between the zip tie and the oil hose and frame to prevent excessive rubbing. Hate to see something go even worse.
Good job by the way! Live your adventures and work!
All very interesting stuff....
Super great smashing 👍
I reckon a few more Bentley repair videos would be a nice refreshing change. 😊
Well done Mr Hewes!
I never Sean large frt springs like that on a car before last time I did frt springs was on a mark2 ford cortina long time ago sorry Ted was not there to help ,look like you have a lot work ahead of you ,I like all the work your doing on the centurion 👍👍👍👌👌great video
Great video.
fantastic content well done my friend 😊
Worth putting in the effort on this car and it will serve you well as long as you can afford the dinosaur juice for it.
I enjoy finely tuned small engines and the uses of them. I hate having to fix the family cars. I see Ted hates it too. Love the show, thank you so much.
Well in joe car maintenance never fun but sometimes needs must as always a great video and a good watch looking forward to the t34 and concrete chieftain
Good job Mr. Hewes. Just like working on a tank😊
Restarting the T34...that one I've been waiting for.
Joe, you seem to be a "Magnet" for broken things that are not initially not known about. There must be a word for this, i like to call it the "Hewesnes".
10/10 for effort Joe. I can imagine the oil feed pipe was a telephone number as it's a Bentley. Only thing I would have done as temp measure, was put hose protector wire around the front bit where tyre might rub. (Hydraulic) Now back to normal panic mode with everything still to do.
👍❤ Super, smashing, marvellous.
I had exactly the same problem with my Continental R and the oil pipes. And I also went to Bonding and Reline - because I can confirm to replace the 3 pipes with aftermarket us £2500! Bonding and Reline managed to copy the originals with the solid sections, superb company.
Such a great company I use them all the time
we are in new zealand we use flying spares to get parts for the bentley do not use the agents unless you have a large box of money great show love it
Lovely , smashing 👍💨💨
Nice work Buddy 👏 hopefully mine doesn't have that much tin worm
If I had a car like that, I don't think I could resist endlessly waving to the hoy poloi as I wafted serenely past.
That spring looks like something off of a trophy truck!
Mr. Hewes thought process.... Broken Bently, hmmmm well let's keep it an all British show and drop that spare V-12 Meteor engine in, it's bound to fit. ^~^
Amazing!
No wonder he gave Boney M records as a star prize. The money he saved bullseye, bought the Bentley. Super smashing great! Bless him.
"Variety is the spice of life"
You making the tank up as easy as washing my outside house windows - you make me laugh 😅very interesting as always Chrs Malc uk 🇬🇧
Impressive hammer collection.
Lovely Smashing Great 😀
Super*
Superb
hi Mr Hewes, i am old enough to remember the Torry Canyon oil tanker when it went aground of the Scilly isles, a complete mess, the army sent in Bedford RL's with 50 gall drums full of degreasing fluid to try and help. in the end the RAF bombed the ship. great video, Jim Bowen was great and did games shows,
France roadtrip incoming !
Super smashing great, let's see what you could've won..........👍👍👍👍👍
Proper job 😊
Super, Smashing, Great
Bloody hell! Bentley springs are bigger than Land Rover ones 😳
I'm happy to see your finely honed Russian tank repair skills have application to British automobiles.
You're my kind of mechanic Mr Hewes..... but then I too am the son of a farmer
I feel your pain brother, I hate working on cars to ............. makes me appreciate my Land Rovers even more.
The torrey Canyon, now that's going back a few years.
Flipping heck, I was eight years old!
I remember the huge importance at the time, it dominated the news. I was amazed when they bombed the wreck.
Jim is gone,
But Bentley lives on
Lovely world there sir jolly good old chap
I do love Joe's 'Karen' impressions! 😆
We need a 'Karen' compilation! 😬
Genuinely looking forward to the t34/55 engine build .
We bought rear discs for the Boss's 70's Shadow and then tried separating them off the hubs...... went to local Commercial Vehicle workshop to use their 1" Air gun to get the nuts off....... didn't even touch it. Ended up buying to complete hub assemblies with the discs from Flying Spares. Just over a grand for the pair (one side was more expensive than the other which was weird) and the discs alone were something like £650+.
Proper job.
Bloody hell Joe 😳 I thought that the exxon valdis would have been too old for you! But I guess that your dad must use the Torrey canyon quote when describing an oil spill or leak.😊
drips lubricant all over the floor? feel a jacks mum joke coming on 🤣🤣
I thought North American can rust out! Good work Joe!
After all that super, smashing, terrific work you deserve a Bendy Bully……. But look here’s what you could have fixed! 🤓
Good to see suppliers get a mention. It’s a British thing.
The things you do for fun. I too hate car repairs. 👍
NGL, I've been waiting to see the Bentley get a video. I'm obsessed (and I should seek professional help) with this era of Bentley. An RT Mulliner is my dream old man car.
