As always the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle. You can get a 2020 model (which has the exact same interior and exterior except the front lights) for under 100k EUR in Germany
The last new car I bought was a 1990 Ford RS Turbo. Then I worked out how much money I was tossing down the drain on depreciation. Current car cost £1000 5 years ago, still running great with meticulous maintenance. Also, being 20 years old, has a virtually zero carbon footprint compared to buying any new bit of crap!
The low mile paradox. Sometimes its better to get a higher milage car, lets say above 120k, since most cars start showing problems at 60-80k miles, and most people try and get rid of them before that, so they dont have to repair it, and the new owners almost instantly has to, while with the above 100k car you know that those problems have been addressed by the previous owner, or the car would not have reached that milage
Definitely. Cars to tend to age poorly when they aren't used regularly. I'd rather have a 90k mile car that saw at least 4-5k a year than a 20k mile car that was driven 1k miles/year. Lack of use means seals age faster, lubrication dries up, etc.
The way your channel changed the way you deliver information is wonderful! 🎉 lovely video!!! When I am asked like what do I want for my birthday I reply all the time like “ A Bentley in front of my house” . 😅
Rapid depreciation is the main reason I don’t buy new cars. It’s a big waste of money especially once the warranty runs out and you have to pay maintenance costs yourself. If you buy 3 new luxury cars in 10 years, think about how much money you actually flush down the drain.

Even if the fuel costs don’t really matter, the convenience is significant. You’re going to have to refuel the old one 3.5 times more often. Also 2,000 pounds isn’t really insignificant even for a Bentley owner. I imagine it’s more reliable and will be easier to maintain too.

I suppose its a case if deciding in 560bhp from the old one is adequate for keeping up with modern traffic and within the UK speed limits? Running it for 2.5 years with some cosmetic resto work like the headliner and interior button replacement, and a few of the common issues coming up has set me back another £25k... That includes a few electircal issues on the rear lights, one air strut bursting, turbo housing bolt coming loose, cam rocker cover gaskets, window regulator failing and smashing the window, wiring loom failures and braking component replacement... Not to mention these split rims have helicoil issues so got a new set. This was all done at a specialist buying the right part at the right time used or heavily discounted and would have set me back closer to £70k at a dealer...

No, only if you plan to save on personal tax by having a company buy it (legal entity). 2 options here: pay salary and taxes on salary, buy car. Not pay the salary and not pay taxes on salary, but then must pay a corporate car tax. It is all fair. You cannot avoid paying taxes on (luxury) consumption made from corporate profits.
An ever growing civil government that produces nothing but wants to/and controls everything needs to steal money for the expenses it produces. Expenses and not value. 99% of modern taxation is theft because 99% of modern day civil government shouldn't exist. Who pay for all the extra bureaucratic nonsense of people wanting to sit at ''invented'' chairs in ''invented high places''? Every single person under its jurisdiction, either wealthy or not. Everyone must pay, the difference is that the one who is wealthy can afford to pay more than the one who is straggling to cover basic needs. Look at the road tax, instead of being the old good and just ''owning a car = tax road'', you know, for damage the car does to the road, now is ''you pay for your emissions and not the damage you do to a public road because the human is made for the environment'', 360 pounds to 2300 pounds. One that has money to buy an old car of his dreams is ''censored'' from the big government hand because ''carbon tax''..... And the real problem is that people think that this is justifiable!!!!!
100k for a new Bentley in 2006 was quite something. Now it's asking for 250k... like what the hell... They used to be going for mid Porsche 911 money, or less than Ferrari money. Now they are more than a 911 turbo S, and very much in Ferrari price territory.
@@HawkSea higher grade?? well hate to break it to ya but Bentley is just an over priced VW... it uses an engine out from an Audi A6, the transmission is from a Porsche SUV and the platform itself is built on a VW design.. oh and you going to love this the digital dash is straight out of a VW Golf, so is all the sensors even the door motors.. and before you even mention the interior that headliner is the same one that is in the Golf, the seats is the same one you get in an Audi, the center console is shared with a few VW cars, Audi and Porsche and the leather/wood work is also the same mass produced for all cars... the fact is if this had a VW badge on it we would all agree that its worth around $50k
@ You're right about the VW badge but it isn't because VW doesn't produce this class of vehicle and neither does Audi. You know the materials used with the amount of quality of leather for this vehicle, right? You know there are different grades, right? Ordering a sirloin steak isn't going to set you back the amount of a filet is. How about the softness of the suspension or the sound deadening? I can tell; you've never sat in a Bentley.
@ Audi S5, you can even get it with the same engine and transmission plus you can even get it in a convertible.. maybe you haven't sat in an Audi recently, but if you truly want good leather and wood in a modern car then you have no choice but to carry it to a shop to get some custom work done and thats down to the fact its cheaper and no car manufacturer wants to be viewed as a company who would slaughter cows just for its leather or chop down a whole forest just for some lumber... if you want a soft ride then talk to Ford and GM both Cadillac and Lincoln is leaders in that area thanks to their suspension tech (they spent more money in R&D to develop that tech than what Bentley is currently worth as a company)
Damn, dude. There's no convincing you. If you think Audi/ Bentley leather is the same quality, I don't no what to tell you. I promise you. A Lincoln does not drive softer than a Bentley...Looks like there's no convincing you so lets just agree to disagree.
A modern Bentley costing near £300K stops in 37 mt, a 2007 with a V12 engine stops in 40 mt, wow amazingly close, what is wrong with Mat these days, have to put these results in context, old Bentley looks far better inside !! and out, to dark, but yellow edges 🤮
This is why I bought a 2003 Merc R230 SL500 4yrs ago for less than £10k with full service history all documented etc. I set aside a repair fund of a a few thousand and have enjoyed driving this wonderful GT car for 4yrs now, (with only routine servicing costs) including continental trips to Italy via alpine passes. If something major goes on it I can scrap it and it still will have cost me less than the instant depreciation you get when you drive a new car out of the showroom. Like your 2006 Continental, she always gets admiring looks and people would be amazed if the new how little I had paid for such a beautiful car…… don’t get me wrong, if money was no object then I’d buy the new Continental but in the real world this sort of car can be a great secondhand buy, so long as you accept the running costs!
Every single line and rubber tubing on that VW engine has to be exchanged with the engine taken out. The enormes heat causes rubbers to become brittle and there’s no other way than doing it the right way: hope you have deep pockets
I own three Volkswagen Phaetons which share the same platform. As long as the previous owners took care of it and you can maintain it yourself, these are absolute bulletproof cars. My W12 has done 283.000KM and still drives today 💪
The headlights look better on the old one. Looks remarkably good driving down the road. I think most people would just see Bentley and go, “nice”. I don’t think they’d notice the age.
I'd take a good 2006 version over the new one every time. As we become more modern by forcible change, the old world just looks and sounds better and better.
That's if your company is getting one as a company car. Individual citizens wouldn't pay anything close to that. I'd be very concerned if I worked for a company that is getting new Bentleys as company cars as that just seems like an irresponsible business decision 😄
Road tax alone kills the old one for me. The running costs dont account for the annual increase on what is already £700+ each year just for the privilege of driving it to a petrol station.

So true Martin. I tell all my mate's that.

Definitely. Cars to tend to age poorly when they aren't used regularly. I'd rather have a 90k mile car that saw at least 4-5k a year than a 20k mile car that was driven 1k miles/year. Lack of use means seals age faster, lubrication dries up, etc.

Or even the top speed test between the cars?

Rapid depreciation is the main reason I don’t buy new cars. It’s a big waste of money especially once the warranty runs out and you have to pay maintenance costs yourself. If you buy 3 new luxury cars in 10 years, think about how much money you actually flush down the drain.

A shame the W12 is now discontinued but you can’t complain about a V8 in this era
Even if the fuel costs don’t really matter, the convenience is significant. You’re going to have to refuel the old one 3.5 times more often. Also 2,000 pounds isn’t really insignificant even for a Bentley owner. I imagine it’s more reliable and will be easier to maintain too.
For the price, a V8 is unacceptable lol

Great video, thanks! Regarding the reduced power output from the new car, guys from DSC OFF chanel recently put a Chiron on a dyno and it was cutting power as well. It turned out the missing data from acceleration sensor was forcing ecu to cut power.
I suppose its a case if deciding in 560bhp from the old one is adequate for keeping up with modern traffic and within the UK speed limits? Not sure I fully understand the need for manufacurers to add more performance to something that is already way to quick to actually be fully usable other than just to satisfy 'bragging rights' or whatever they are called for sad people to bore everyone with.

But yeah I love it and its well worth the £40k I have spent for a 6L twin turbo 12cyl that does nearly 200mph 🤘just gotta always expect a bill for a few k out of nowhere 🤣

9k per year to own a car you already payed taxes on is insane!
Good job that's not what happens then.

Bentley/ Rolls were always considered higher grade.
