Without a doubt , this is singularly the best video on installing a remap I've watched in the last couple of years . As you mentioned others just wander off topic and confuse the heck out of me , THANKS 😉.
Hi Peter Many thanks for your kind comments. I do try to make my technical videos as clear and simple as possible. I watched loads before making mine and often found them very confusing. Another nice Bonneville related technical video coming out on Tuesday that you might also enjoy 😉👍
Very interesting video Ian, it’s always scary when you connect to the ecu, the worry that one wrong instruction and you’re going to kill it 😅 glad everything went smoothly, all the best buddy 👍
Hi Mike great to hear from you, that was a scary moment. You’re never quite sure if it’s going to work or not, I suppose it’s just like updating firmware on any other electrical gadget. Hope all is well with you take care and ride safe 😁👍
Nice video. Making it look simple, which I guess, is far from. Miffed at missing the Saturday meet up at Powmill. But was like 2.1 at 7am. Too 🥶 Chilly to meet up at the Tay Bridge l Keep up the good work Ian. Best regards😊
Hi Mark Great to hear that you enjoyed the video and found it interesting. It was a tense moment pressing the button to upload the new map to the ECU, thankfully it all went well and I didn’t screw up the ECU 😁. The bike is now running beautifully.. It was a cold morning on Sunday, but it turned out to be a really nice day with a great assortment of bikes turning up. It’s always sad at this time of year, coming to the end of the biking season in autumn and with winter coming. Take care mate, look after yourself and ride safely 😁👍
Just seen this ..great tutorial on Tune ECU.I have used it to remap my Tiger 1050 Sport..and I will admit that I was a tad nervous first time round..and tbh the second attempt will be with my T100.. Question/observation..does the bonni not come with twin peashooters as standard?...My 2012 (which I have just bought with ..wait for it...1142 miles on it) certainly did. Im replacing them with Norman Hyde Toga mufflers..hence the re-map
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video and have found it helpful. I was nervous when I did my Bonneville as well 🤣👍 My Bonneville is an SE model, and these are the standard silencers. It’s also different to the T100 as it runs on 17 inch alloy wheels and sits lower. Great bike 😁
Greetings Ian from down under . Just a wee question , I know from previous you removed the SAI from your Bonne, using the resistor plug , when you remapped the ecu , do you have to program as if SAI is connected or disabled ? Cheers Dez.
From memory I’m sure I remapped mine with the SAI connected as the bike does have the resistor plug. Would be interesting to simply disable the SAI and remove the resistor plug and see if that throws up any fault codes. Might give that a try that in the spring time next year as my Bonneville is now laid up for the winter here in Scotland. Hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😁👍
Very helpful. I'm considering whether I should put a different map on my 2022 T100. I changed the mufflers to BC carbon shorty - mostly to make it easier to get the rear wheel off and and also for easy cleaning and oiling the chain. I was told that the ECU adjusts to the change automatically? Is that incorrect?
Hi Rob I’m no expert on this subject, but as far as I know the ECU does have a limited amount of automatic learning. This is usually achieved by starting the engine and letting it idle for around 15 to 30 minutes. Or until the radiator fan cuts in if water cooled, as in your case. A full remap makes a lot more changes to the ECU, especially in modern bikes with ride by wire throttle’s. I don’t know whether your bike would benefit from a re-map or not. If it’s running well, then it’s probably ok. Hope you enjoyed the video and found it interesting 😁👍
@@tigerness5555 thanks for responding. The maker of the muffler I installed (British Customs) makes a variety of different exhaust systems. Some they say do require a remap. Other no. This one I have is on the list of no remap needed. I'm going to go with that. Bike runs great as far as I can tell.
Hi Simon, thankfully the job went smoothly with no problems at all. If it hadn’t, I don’t think the engine would have been damaged as it’s purely an electrical issue and not mechanical, but who knows? If it hadn’t been successful, it would’ve been a case of downloading the original map to the ECU. Worst case scenario is that I would’ve destroyed the ECU 😱 Hope you enjoyed the video and found it interesting 😁👍
Hello am I mistaken, are the two maps actually the same? As we can only see one page of the mapping, maybe there's a difference in the ignition timing or fueling elsewhere. With a free flowing exhaust system an engine would normally run weaker therefore usually needing a richer map. Anyway a good demonstration of how to change maps. Thank you, it's been helpful.
Hi Russell There are a few differences in the two maps. It wouldn’t have been very easy to show that in the video. The video was only intended to demonstrate the procedure. Great to hear that you enjoyed it and found it interesting 😁👍
Yer a wizard TN delving into scary stuff😲.... My Tiger had an 18,000ml service last week and got the latest download from Triumph the bike is totally different, the engine is smoother, quieter and accelerates faster ?? It's the first time in years I can say I have noticed a massive difference after a service....
This is a 15 year old bike, I don’t think that Triumph are very interested in updating the ECU Map for it. Hope you enjoyed the video and found it interesting 😁👍
Hi Dave, that’s interesting 🤔, have to bring my tablet on a run sometime and plug it into your bike to see what Map they’ve loaded onto your ECU. Great to hear that your bike is much improved, and that you’ve enjoyed my wizard video 🤣👍
Hi Lee, thanks for that information, I’ll pull out the ECU and have a check 👍 In TuneECU there is a function to compare maps, I loaded 20731 and compared it with the one on the bike, it didn’t show any differences. I’ll do some more investigating as I find this very interesting, that said the bike is running very sweetly at the moment. Hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for your input 😁👍

Good job done there TN. If it had gone wrong would the bike just not re started or would there have been significant engine damage?

Have you asked Triumph to confirm which map is the most up to date for your bike?
And good to see you testing the bike on the A91. You probably rode past my house!

it did say on the tablet screen the map was obsolete . noted by the * after the number. it then tells you the number of the latest update ie 20743
You can find the original map hex code in the side of the ecu if you pull it up it’s on a sticker. That looks like an SE so commonly it’s 20731.hex
