  • Here is how to put a smaller sprocket on a BMX bike. If you want to put a smaller front sprocket on your BMX bike, you will need to put on a smaller rear sprocket as well, in order to keep the gear ratio the same. Otherwise the gearing will be really low and you won't be able to go fast. On the bike in the video, we have 25 teeth on the front sprocket and 9 teeth on the back, and it works really well. Watch and learn how to put smaller sprockets on your BMX bicycle.
You can buy a 25 tooth BMX bike sprocket here:

Hey there, do you know what the largest rear free wheel single speed sprocket you can get is? Looking to make a polo bike with easy gear ratio but have a very custom front chain ring that’ll be hard to change I think.

    Does the chain thickness matter??

can some home help me? I have a red line racing bike an I want to turn it into a bmx but the axles are small an I was wondering if that would be a problem because I broke bolt that hold the rim to the frame on my last rim. with that being said I was wondering if you could suggest a parts I should get to. it would be really helpful.

Wow to be honest this is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. When he pulled out the calculator I was like ehhhhhhh…. Maybe I’ll just get some new pedals 😂

would you rather the chain snapped or the sprocket wears down a bit. i use to ride bmx i had a half link heavy duty chain on a stander issue sprocket and yes it is worn down but the sprocket is still usable

By moving the wheel further inwards on the rear drops outs you apply more torque on the frame geometry making it easier to wheelie at low speeds but at high speeds this increases making it unstable "Loopie/Twitchy " so think of it this way inward = low speed manuals, outward = high speed manuals. yes each frame and rider is different so adjust as you desire, It took me a few years of riding my BMX with gearing and chain lenght to find the right spot for very high speed stability even tire pressure matters I set my bike up to use the gearing to get me close to the best speed when I ran out of gearing It was even better... I didnt have to peddle then :D

So what would be a good ratio for both back n front for the bike to go really fast?
