Aloha from Maui, I'm the original owner of a series 1 2009 128 and I've never been able to get the address book function to work. I went to my dealer a couple times and they told me they didn't know how to work it and were no help. I called corporate BMW and they couldn't tell me either. I gave up for years but then thought I just give it one more try to find help and there you were explaining it perfectly. I've read the manual over and over and I can only get the number dial function to work. At least I know how to do it now and I'm going to try it shortly. If it doesn't work then it's a problem with the car I've had a lot of problems with it from the get-go. Mahalo for your help and much aloha to you. Teena
James, what else can we do with the BMW voice command though? I just bought a 2013 X1 and have just discovered this feature, it works pretty darn well, would be awesome if it could do more though
Hi James. My 2009 118D MSport Hatchback hasn't got the 'phone' button on the business stereo. But it does have the telephone and voice command buttons on the steering wheel... How could I get this to work? cheers.
Not very affective when saying numbers keeps mistakening 0 as 4 and 4 as 0 can't recognise numbers or voices repeated poor voice system set up just like on the Honda I'd rather take the risk of scrolling through my phone to find it because I'm about to tear the f@#%ing radio out of my car trying to succeed did everything this video requires but the speaker doesn't recognise numbers affectively

Followed your video it is brilliant. I have my phone contacts in the computer. It reads my phone book back to me. However if I say dial and then the name the computer voice says dial number??? Grrrrr very frustrating

TLDPL not sure if i can help. I have a 2006 330xi and it has the voice respond. If you have the button you should have at least the basic command package which is timedate saver, phone numder saver etc. Now depending on what the car was ordered with the list of commands basically goes up and links to more features of the car or phone, or navigation and entertainment. Not unlike old 80s and 90s onboard computers, just voice, bluetooth, etc capable. Mess around a little and see what ya really have...

Its optional feature . Many of them doesnt have this .

I just 2011 bmw 328i when I try to pair my phone by pressing menu it does not give me the option to pair! Is it broken?

Have key in but radio off hit menu then go to button under Config then button under language and select English.
