Man, you’re welcome!! I knew something was up when I pulled my sub out of the box, and didn’t find anything inside the enclosure, or anything loose on the actual subwoofer. So I just lifted it out, and started rotating clockwise it in my hand, and heard the faintest “ticking” sound. It was that stupid little piece of glue! 😂 You would swear by hearing it in person, that someone put pennies in my box 🤣 Also, in case you (or anyone else who sees this) are wondering.. I still drive my subs HARD, and often, when I’m driving.. this little procedure had NO negative effects on the sub, OR any negative performance. Just made it sound good again 😎
If you don't move the subs much and play them low, the air isn't moving much either. That can result in the coils getting too warm too often and can still burn them up, eventually. That was advice from my installer.
Mine isn’t a rattle, it’s more of a knock at high volumes, low volumes plays good, is it distorting? I have an epicenter, could I be turning it up too high ? It does it on high notes
Yo thanks a lot man it worked on mine mine sound like it was blown to it sounded like shit when I turned it up down low it sounded alright but once I turned it up it started sounding like shit and mine was actually inside the casing that you screw it down to the little plastic guard that holds the speaker in from me tightening it up too tight it broke the plastic on the inside that little plastic housing an just rattle like crazy thank you man save me some money and time
How did you fix it bro did you not tighten it down as far or what did you do because I’m having the same problem right now if you can please tell me what you did so I can get my system back in my car please and thank you
I think I might be experiencing the same prob. When I tap on my subwoofer by hand I’m hearing like a tinging noise I took the sub out of the box and looked around as didn’t see anything hanging off the sub I noticed that there are some holes on the underside of the sub similar to the hole you cut out but almost as if someone drilled them out all around the diameter . Do subwoofers typically come like that from factory or are they all sealed up one solid piece in reference to the same area you cut that hole.? Just wondering if I may have the same problem mine slightly sounds like like a penny hitting metal or two pennies hitting together. Idk 🤷♂️ wish I could explain the noise through text . When played mine almost sounds like a it’s kind of blown it still puts out bass but kind of makes a buzzing sound on them deep low sounds almost as if a piece of paper slapping around as well I’m gonna go dig in and try and see if I see anything similar that’s strange though . I have a very similar issue with my B2 Rage 12. It's only 2 months old but I noticed about two weeks ago it started making a nasty rattle around 60Hz. It plays perfectly fine free air but as soon as its inside the enclosure the rattle reappears. I've tried different enclosures as well but that didn't make a difference. It's never been clipped either. At this point I'm stumped as to what the issue is
Did you ever figure anything out? I’ve been pushing mine hard since this video..No ill effects whatsoever! At least for these Kickers, cutting that little hole didn’t hurt a single thing. I’m back to super clean, hard punching bass, with no nasty rattles 😎
I got a same problem with Helix K 10w! I cannot understand what is happening but today I found that it happens when an air pressure is added at vent hole on back of magnet - If I put hand over that hole rattle sound instantly appears and same happens when sub is in box but not when is in free air(out of box).. I already exchanged sub for new one(same model) because i think it is defective but with new one I got a same problem! idk what is going on and what is the reason... Do you find a fix?
@@Ralfinsh I am powering my 1500W RMS sub with a TARAMPS Smart 3k. I noticed that the cone of the sub would become very very hot after a short period of time. This was happening since the day I got it. I thought maybe that's just how this sub is designed but I always thought this can't be normal because this was excessive heat. I couldn't figure out the problem but I noticed that the amp pushed out nearly 2x the power around 55Hz. So what I did was I purchased a Clarion DSP and brought down 55Hz and the surrounding frequencies down by 6dB which eliminated the rattle problem and allowed the sub to play much cooler. I think in my case if I had used a traditional amplifier I wouldn't have had this problem. But the smart 3k puts out constant power at multiple Ohm loads. Also around 55Hz the box isn't moving much air since its tuned to 32Hz so the coil overheats very quickly. At 32Hz it can take power all day long since the box is moving so much air to cool the voice coil down. And tbh it sounds much better now compared to before. Before there was more upper bass. Now everything just sounds as it should sound. My advice would be to check your sub for heat and check your amplifiers. Maybe, just maybe you are pushing too much power to your sub just as I was. If this is the second sub you're on with the same problem, try ordering an amp from Amazon just to test out. If the problem doesn't go away then just get a DSP and tone down the frequencies that cause this rattle. At first I didn't want to add products to solve the problem but honestly I'm glad I did. The overall sound has improved drastically, and with the clarior DSP I got a bass knob which I can use to turn down the bass and also turn up the sub by 5dB for songs that lack bass. So I'm happy. Let me know how it goes for you and good luck!
My son recently bought 2 sundown neo’s from someone. They look new and they are neo’s. I installed them and I’m getting rattle. It’s not the enclosure. I pulled the one and looked it over and tried playing free air and it was clear.(not making that noise). Every time I buy it in recommended sealed enclisure it does it. It has something to do with the air pressure in the box. I thought maybe the dustcap but it isn’t. I’m not hearing anything wrong with the coils, spider looks good and tensil leads are good. I’m trying to figure this one out
Hey Coby.. If you have the sub disconnected, and out of the box, you can hold it in your hands, and then turn the sub in all different directions and even shake it a little, and listen for any noises of trash bouncing around. If you hear something moving/bouncing around in there, then make a small hole and try to shake out any pieces that’s in there. Also, for the record, I drive my subs hard, and they’re still sounding great to this day. So putting that small hole had no negative effects 😎🤙🏼
This is exactly how I figured out what happened to my sub. Took it out of the box and started investing/moving it around,...sure enough. Then I came across your video after typing in my issue and voila, here you are. Thanks for your help.
Never hurts to check things over! Having a sub with that much age on it is awesome, but definitely opens the door for multiple issues. Could be a bad/blown voice coil, or a rotted spider, etc. Have a peak all around the woofer, with it out if the enclosure. If everything looks intact, them delicately press straight down on the cone, and listen for a “scratchy” sound when it goes down, and when it comes back up. Just go back and forth with it, and see if it moves smoothly and freely, or if it’s scratchy and feels like it’s grinding. Voice coil will usually be the issue in that instance. Check back if you’d like, and let me know what you find!

Shoot, if I could rewind time about 15 months, and record every stage of the “bad” sound as it progressed, I’d sure do it for ya, friend.. however, I do have to ask..when’s the last time you saw a video of any subwoofer setup, that sounded “good” after being recorded by a cellphone mic? Even the cleanest sounding systems, will sound like distorted/blown subs at even mild performance levels. I had that in mind when making this video, and figured I would just try to help DIY people who know a little bit about what they’re doing, instead of posting a sound clip of anything.. because then I would just be another TH-cam video, with an overloaded comment section about how my “system sounds like crap”, by people who don’t know that the mics can’t pick up the true sound 😅🤷🏼♂️ Thanks for checkin’ it out anyways, though 🤙🏼
