awesome! I have this idea that internally it has 200 lines res already, so why not use that for textures on the wall, each 8 lines inside a char, can be checked if its on or off, and a table would tell which petscii char represents that graphics best (8pixel wide virtual pixels x 8 high), now it is possible to texture walls for eorfill, after eorfill use the lookup table to represent the column in petscii chars. I think this would work with a 5 byte x200 byte buffer (5 byte x 8 bits =40 columns), simply draw the walls in this buffer, eorfill it, then load each "char" into 8 zp variables, with asl zp rol A you can collect into a byte each 8 pixel hight segment for a lookup value.
Superb job so far! Can you move sideways (strafing)? This is really essential for an FPS. On the SNES pad these would be the shoulder buttons L and R. Also, the enemies should be taller I think. maybe two chars for the chest?
