Hello Jess, great video and good work! I’m a youngish in my 30s, single Asian American expat just relocated to Hong Kong from Los Angeles, California. I’m looking to rent an apartment here and neighborhood is important to me. I was wondering if I can ask your advice on what neighborhood would best fit my situation, I’m looking for somewhere where young professionals live (so not exactly looking for a family friendly neighborhood), I would prefer to live in an area with either expats or local people who had overseas living experience (like an overseas returnee), so it’s easier to meet new people with less language and cultural barriers, I’m not looking to live in a very “local” place such as North Point or Chai Wan lol😅since I’m only looking at the Hong Kong island side, so my coworkers recommended to look into mid-level, Kennedy town, Sai Ying Pun or maybe Quarry Bay? Would you kindly share some thoughts on these places? Thank you so much!
Sure! I would choose sai Ying pun. It's got a large expat population and has lots of nice restaurnts and coffee shops. It's got a nice vibe and is close to Central. Kennedy town is nice for the seaside but it's a little too far for my liking. It also depends on where your work is.. I mean I live in Sai wan ho and my work is a 20 min walk away in tai koo. Quarry bay is nice if your work is in the eastern part of the island.
@@JessBeyondHorizonwell, keep uploading them good content when you can! Anyways, off topic would you happen to know any expat groups in Hong Kong or is it not a thing here lol
@@Yellahighway yes you can check out meetup. You'll meet lots of expats there. There's one called hong kong fun that does drinks. Internations is also good
I'm moving to Hong Kong in a week or so. Can you let me know if Tsim Sha Tsui is a neighbourhood filled with locals or can I find decent amount of expats there? And is $8-10k a decent budget for a studio on the Island?
Tsim sha tsui is filled with tourists. I used to live there. Locals don't really live there. Expats maybe. 8 to 10k is a decent budget for a small and older subdivided studio on the island.
Was it as miserable as all the reviews say? I need to stay somewhere temporary for around a month before moving to a permanent place and wonder if Chungking Mansions would be worth the experience haha
Nope the only air bnb I stayed in was in Chung king mansions when I first got to hk in 2017 and that was already expensive for me. Not sure about now sorry, you can search on the air bnb site.
Great information. Thanks!

Yes you can use
28hse.com
Spaceous.hk
Squarefoot.com.hk
You can also use Facebook
i like ur accent.
What can you recommend if we are just staying for 1week?
Probably just a hotel or an airbnb. I don't know too much about those sorry!
I love hong kong and visit yearly but no way im living in a shoebox lmao
Yeah it's a trade off 😅
how much is the good sALARY in HK
Depends on your lifestyle and situation, it's hard to give a number
Do u know a cgeap air bnb in tst?
Nope the only air bnb I stayed in was in Chung king mansions when I first got to hk in 2017 and that was already expensive for me. Not sure about now sorry, you can search on the air bnb site.
Hm is ur rental per month in your current place?
I'm paying 12k hkd a month which is around 1.5k usd a month
50% commission to the agent?! Maybe it's 50% of 1 month?
Yes that's right, 3.5 months: 2 months in advance and 1 month rent. And the 50% means 0.5 of the month. 😊
@@JessBeyondHorizon Is it possible to find a place by oneself without the agency? (from those websites you recommend for instance)
@@angelnaydenov2974 Yes you can, you can find "direct to landlord" posts on Facebook.
