Anything older than a GTX 970 or a RX 470 should probably be just relegated to semi-retro/vintage builds, and even these two are on the verge of joining that category.
Its hard too agree with this, especially considering that there are brand new cards being produced by both Nvidia and AMD that are weaker.
If 1080p low and < 60 fps (even with FSR) is acceptable on more recent AAA titles, then knock yourself out!!!
Personally ran a HD 7850 2GB (overclocked) with an E3-1270 for Borderlands 1 & 2, but entertained no attempt to run BL3 until getting the RX 470 8GB (overclocked).
@@waijung7665 not being able to do 60fps in more resent titles isnt really a knock on the hardware, its a knock on the developers and the half ass optimizations. In some of these games you need a damn 4070 or above and that incredibly sad. In realistic terms the gtx 970 performs well in 90% of games out there.
"...half ass optimizations..."
No disagreements there. My fastest GPU is a refurb Zotac GTX 1080 Mini that came from Zotac's online store for $129 USD w/90-day warranty. Can get 60 FPS going with 1080p Med w/High textures on most AAA's that I want to play; it's "good enough." Not tempted at all with the RTX 30's or 40's...very questionable performance-to-value proposition at the moment.
I fully agree. I'm planning on doing a vintage build sometime soon!
I have one as well: a relic from the past. But in my humble opinion, still one of the best made and looking GPU's of all time. If it had a backplate, def the best looking. The best thing of this card is holding it in your hand: feels very premium. That's why I also have most of the 10 series cards from EVGA: had the same feel to them. Modern cards are so powerful and efficient, but they don't "feel" the same. So don't regret buying it, put it on the shelf and display it.
Considering the chips used in the GTX 690, were reused in GTX 770, almost unchanged, and actually clocked higher (a single chip though) it could be interesting to see a 770 vs 690 on singular chip, non-SLI.
Further... both are WinXP compatible, where they would really shine.
I imagine both make for an excellent retro gaming machine🙌
@@ProYamYamPC You're more than welcome to give your presentation of an overpowered WinXP build. xD
Heck... get in touch with GOG and sample some classic games as well.
Still cool to have on the shelf 😊
It’s aesthetically one of the best cards out there🔥
@@ProYamYamPC Yeah i love the center fan. If I could modify a modern card I would put one huge fan with a custom shroud to match.
It was a decent deal during the crypto boom. I paid 50 bucks for it which was half of the price of a 960 2GB at the time and it performed better in SLI games and as good in non SLI games. Just used more power.
It’s decent when the SLI works properly in all fairness🤣
The 690 was my biggest mistake (gtx titan was the alternative at the time). I used it all the way until 2015, and it was flawless with no microstutter. But it was insanely hot and therefore loud, at the end it ran the fan on full at desktop idle. My entire arma 2 dayz and bf3/4 experience was on the 690. With a 2500k at 5.1ghz.
And I thought my gtx 770 was blah 3 years ago until I upgraded to gtx 1660, than rtx 2060 super couple months ago for $150. Couldn't be happier for the price to performance.
It's nice to hear a black country lad. Keep up the good work
Haha, it's a small world. Thank you mate!
cant wait for rtx 6090
Absolute meme card🙏
These dual cards were never really anywhere near double in most systems, and... obviously... this is a 12 year old card, that wasn't perfect in 2012... Hence Titans and TI cards, as you noted :)
I do like watching these dinosaurs however. Best left to an XP build.
If you don't want it, I'll take it.
Have a project in mind. :p
love the content man :)
Thanks bro, I'm glad you enjoy!
i wouldn't buy a vintage gpu with _modern_ gaming as the focus. i have a pair of evga gtx 670 coming in the mail. i'm going to sli them for gaming from that era. and for the heck of it, i've never tried sli or crossfire. i'm even going to be using them in a windows xp pro x64 system.
The card needs games from the same year or older.
ProYamYam PC : damn how poorly the GTX 690 from 2012 ages man....if you can find an HD 7990 3GB....try to compare it to that. You'll see how monstrously better the AMD card has aged. And if you could find a GTX 780 Ti 3GB and compare it to the R9 290X 4GB/8GB....you'll see it yet again, where today there is almost a 100 % difference in performance in favor of AMD. Why ? Because the R9 200 series was the first series to support AMD-s own Mantle 2012 API which was a first true ASYNCHRONUS API that predates DX 12 API for 3,5 years.
schlechter test , rdr2 unterstützt sli perfekt
es wurde einfach falsch eingestellt
besser währe ein tester der auch ein bisschen ahnung hat
4gb vram
There is 4GB of VRAM, but each GPU has 2GB each. The VRAM doesn’t pool with SLI
@@ProYamYamPC Ah thanks I was kinda confused about that, had 2gb vram then edited to 4gb. I imagine my 1060 3gb from a 2016 prebuilt also wouldn't hold up that well today (might be fine in some esports titles). That explains the performance with the 690 though. I missed trying out the SLI era (and Crossfire). I did check ebay prices out of curiousity, feel a lot of these older SLI GPUs are becoming collector items.
