I remember finding Food Wishes years ago when I first entered culinary school and being put off by his voices cadence, but Im a diehard food wisher now
We arrived at almost the same recipe - can attest to its deliciousness. One ingredient that I include that I consider to be critical is finely diced red bell pepper. The bell pepper brings a vegetal freshness that cuts the intensity of the rest of the ingredients. Cheers yall!
"You're in charge of the administration of your crustacean" has me still laughing! I love your sense of humor - it goes hand in hand with your great recipes!
The smaller portions being put out as needed is brilliant - our much loved and missed former neighbor had a production line of these types of hot and cold dips ready to go for any occasions which allowed her to snap up items when they were on sale, do the prep, freeze them and...VOILA!
Just a suggestion from someone from MD who uses a lot of crab, Old Bay, and Worcestershire sauce...forego the added salt. All of the prior 3 will have enough for the dip. Love your channel and your enthusiasm in your commentary. Cheers!!
I made your Cowboy Dip for our Christmas party.. Everybody including the cowboys loved it!!! Thank you for that recipe. I am making the crab dip for our New Year's Eve Karaoke Party..... :)
Marylander here. We forgive your use of canned crab. Tbqh the fresh stuff is both scarce and $$$ here too and probably has been that way for 10+ years. Fellow MDers back me up
I'm surprised that Chef John doesn't have a recipe for Cayenne pepper soup! It could be as simple as 2 cups of your choice of broth and 1/2 cup of Cayenne pepper! 😂
This is a nice simple versatile crab dip. I tweek it to my taste, added some ingredients and eliminated other but the overall recipe is great. Thank you for sharing.
I like getting a baguette and making some crispy crostini! I dry it out a little first in a low oven (or use day-old) then toast under the broiler. They are sturdy enough to dip and they’re crunchy.
Chef John, this hot crab dip looks delicious! Every year during the holidays I make a clambake because it's always requested and expected :) I'm making one for a holiday party this weekend, but now, in addition to that, I'm going to bring along this crab dip. Like all of your recipes, I know people will love it. Thank you for sharing.
I make a crab dip which I made up, and wow! It’s just like yours! Well maybe a few little differences (no ketchup….hmmm, but maybe sriracha next time? A pinch of white pepper) I use Jack, Tillamook white cheddar, maybe a bit of gruyere. I think I use less cream cheese and more cheese. I buy the MD lump crab in those see-thru refrigerated containers that cost $30 and I don’t make as large an amount, so smaller dish….sooo good!!! One time I made it as our main course served in pretty French white gratin dishes….delish, but so caloric!
Amazing I have all these ingredients on hand already! I was so excited when Chef John announced this in the live chat because less than a month earlier I suggested this dish, my first food wish and it only took. a month to see it to fruition! Go me! And, Chef John! Thank you !
A really great tip I got here in our local asia market in Pinneberg, Germany: ask for frozen crab meat. Not as watery as the canned stuff (by far!) plus there's a fair chance that it is even cheaper! Our store here is amazing! They've even ordered ingredients for me, several times.
Boy, Chef John I’ve noticed you really like your cayenne pepper 🌶️ 😅 I enjoy a little heat, but, not too much where I can’t enjoy the meal. Anyway, I think pita chips would be good for dipping as they are a firm and neutral tasting chip. Enjoy 😊!
I was planning to make somone elses hot crab dip recipe for my family at Chritsmas and hope for the best. No I KNOW it gonna be good thanks CJ! Perfect timing!
OMG, I cannot wait to make this and eat it!! It looks sooooo yummy, minus the cayenne. You make the best foods! I bet your wife is super happy, as she is a very lucky woman to have a husband who makes the best food!! Yummm 😋 Oops, almost forgot, Thank you for sharing this and all of your other food recipes!!
Made this today. Chef John, it's not bad, but as a Marylander, next time I'd leave out the catsup. And Bumble Bee canned lump crab works just fine. (Md lump is $30 a pound)
My husband absolutely flipped over this. I used the refrigerator crab, but not lump (cha-ching). So much crab flavor. This could easily be 16 servings. But we didn't eat it that way 😉
Btw, double dipping is fine if you're alone.
So is eating the dip with a spoon!
Did you eat the whole thing? 🔥🔥🔥🥵🔥🔥🔥
Will this be good without all the fire? 🔥
Is that a metaphor?
so double dipping is always fine for me.
I'm pretty sure Food Wishes was the first channel I subscribed to years ago. You have made it a great ride Chef John
I remember finding Food Wishes years ago when I first entered culinary school and being put off by his voices cadence, but Im a diehard food wisher now
Ditto! I think his chocolate sea salt crostini vid was the first one I ever watched. I've taken *so* much from this channel over the years.
I'm from Maryland and I approve of this dip.
That all I needed to here (thank you 💋)
We arrived at almost the same recipe - can attest to its deliciousness. One ingredient that I include that I consider to be critical is finely diced red bell pepper. The bell pepper brings a vegetal freshness that cuts the intensity of the rest of the ingredients. Cheers yall!
I like that…it would be eye appealing too!
Agree; red pepper goes so great with crab 🦀
Is there anything better than rewatching the Food Wishes video while you're eating your newest favorite recipe? Nope! Another winner :)
"You're in charge of the administration of your crustacean" has me still laughing!
I love your sense of humor - it goes hand in hand with your great recipes!
😂SpongeBob's got nothin' on Him
Agree!
A friend is going crabbing for some Dungeness this weekend. I think I know what I’m going to make. Thanks Chef John!
Dungeness is the best!
The smaller portions being put out as needed is brilliant - our much loved and missed former neighbor had a production line of these types of hot and cold dips ready to go for any occasions which allowed her to snap up items when they were on sale, do the prep, freeze them and...VOILA!
This looks AWESOME. I think that might make for an excellent rangoon filling!
I did indeed say "That's not lump crab meat." haha. Ya got me.
Have a wonderful holiday season to you and your family John
Just a suggestion from someone from MD who uses a lot of crab, Old Bay, and Worcestershire sauce...forego the added salt. All of the prior 3 will have enough for the dip. Love your channel and your enthusiasm in your commentary. Cheers!!
this guy gets it ☝️. From MD too and I agree with ya
Annapolitan here and agree 100%
“Hot Crab Drip” is a great band name. Or perhaps an album.
I enjoy every one of your presentations. Thank you and merry Christmas
I make this every New Year's Eve. My family loves it!
You make crab dip with Ketchup?
@@toddb3394 I don't use ketchup. I add a little cocktail sauce instead.
Aloha. I’m assuming an address is out of the question?
@@adamyoung480 lol
@@wynnkidsnannylorivance4111 My mom made a delish cold crabmeat dip and used cocktail sauce instead of ketchup (but CJ's looks even better).
The Old Bay is a must but the most expensive lump crab meat is not required for crab dip save the best for your crab cakes.
I made your Cowboy Dip for our Christmas party.. Everybody including the cowboys loved it!!! Thank you for that recipe. I am making the crab dip for our New Year's Eve Karaoke Party..... :)
Brother you are a national treasure!!!
Marylander here. We forgive your use of canned crab. Tbqh the fresh stuff is both scarce and $$$ here too and probably has been that way for 10+ years.
Fellow MDers back me up
I'm in the DMV, and you are 100% correct!!!
$20.00 for 80z lump crab in a jar in TX
I don't usually have crab dip hot but it looks delicious!!
This looks delicious, Chef John!
I'm surprised that Chef John doesn't have a recipe for Cayenne pepper soup! It could be as simple as 2 cups of your choice of broth and 1/2 cup of Cayenne pepper! 😂
I have made something similar using surimi and a little fish sauce. Budget me. Delicious though.
Thanks Chef John!
This looks really good. And we have a holiday that demands finger foods coming up! Thanks, Chef!
Dips are such wonderful creations.💜
Thanks for this, I used to buy some good crab dip but the cost is too much, now I can make my own.
Chef, this looks amazing. I'm gonna buy some crab tomorrow.
All our favourite recipes are from you, Chef John! It started with Dutch Baby 12 years ago.
Holy CRAB🦀!
This is a nice simple versatile crab dip. I tweek it to my taste, added some ingredients and eliminated other but the overall recipe is great. Thank you for sharing.
I'm using chip dip on nachos as I watch this video.😮 To eat/each their own ❤
Great. Another Chef John dip that I know is going to be at least a once a year entire dinner to my face. Along with that hot Reuben dip. You rule!
Love the recipes, but live for the rhyming couplets. Administration of your crustacean. Splendid!
This looks really good. I can't wait to make it.

Chef John, having lived in Maryland for graduate school, this is an awesome recipe 🦀
Thank you as always 🙏
I don't know where you're from John, but with that Young Bay joke, you are now officially a Baltimore Dad.

ya! well we need more paprika here, it's been devastating
what are the measurements or it goes by the wye 😊
check the recipe link in the description @@teodorac4801
I made a 1/4-recipe of this using a can of crab meat (it still seemed like a lot) and it was excellent! Thank you Chef John!
Can't wait for crab season to get here
"That's okay, they can't help themselves."
How true!
i used to make something pretty similar to that and eat it with baked potatoes. Might have to make another batch for nostalgia
That looks absolutely delicious.
Happy Holidays & Merry Vacation!
Young Bay just got carded and it's under seasoned 😂
Made rhis tonight with canned crab and dipped it with homemade tortilla chips. Yummy, super delicious. Thanks!
I have a family recipe looking for something new and I just found it thank you
I would use a smaller amount of Gochujang instead of Ketchup. For not only the color,, but A little sweet heat..
"....it's not a Stuffing if you don't stuff it in the bird".... BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA
YOU'RE THE BEST, CHEF JOHN!!!!
Salivating like Pavlov's dog here. All I'm gonna be thinking about all day is crab dip.
Looks delicious John, can't wait to give it a try!
Thank you for another tasty recipes!🎄
You're the Best chef John.
Hi. Marylander here. I will use this recipe and buy whatever crab I can get, probably what you found. I’m landlocked rn 😂 I will add 2 tsps sherry 🥂
A really great tip I got here in our local asia market in Pinneberg, Germany: ask for frozen crab meat. Not as watery as the canned stuff (by far!) plus there's a fair chance that it is even cheaper! Our store here is amazing! They've even ordered ingredients for me, several times.
Pretty sure Chef John is king of the hot dips, but I'll take your word for it Chef.
Marylander here, and no judge-adge on your lump-age
Another one that I need a slow cooker version for
Boy, Chef John I’ve noticed you really like your cayenne pepper 🌶️ 😅 I enjoy a little heat, but, not too much where I can’t enjoy the meal. Anyway, I think pita chips would be good for dipping as they are a firm and neutral tasting chip. Enjoy 😊!

Don’t give me no lip. This is the best hot crab dip.
Marylander here…def not lump!! 😂😂 But that works too!! Looks great!
I do both spread and dip
I’m from Maryland and I’ve never had crab dip with ketchup. Maybe I’ll give it a try 🤷🏽♀️
1:07 - Nailed it!
thank you chef!
I substituted spinach for crab, and artichoke for old bay . twas delightful. I love how chef johns recipes work with almost any substitutions !!
I feel like this is a joke but I'm sure that would be a good spinach dip so I'm not even mad
I made spinach dip that night and realized I used almost the same recipe by accident minus the couple of ingredients@@ohhowfuckingoriginal
Omg need to make this asap
In Baltimore we eat crabby fries… hot crab dip on French fries! Preferably waffle fries mmmmm
There is nothing better than a good hot crab dip.
Administration of your crustacean 😂 those end comments are always my favorite
Rich and delectable ‼️
I'm all for this one 😋
Okay I had a weird thought that includes hot cheeto's crunched up on top . . .
the "young bay" joke absolutely sent me, lol
This guy should be a chef
Merry Christmas
Cooking this tonight. 🎉
Made this today. Chef John, it's not bad, but as a Marylander, next time I'd leave out the catsup. And Bumble Bee canned lump crab works just fine. (Md lump is $30 a pound)
If you have any leftovers, I doubt you will but if you do, this is delicious on top of a hamburger❤ or a soft pretzel ❤
I actually made this. It's pretty good. I think next time, I'll substitute chill sauce for ketchup. Or maybe add a drop or three of liquid smoke.
Chef John, sometimes I just turn on your channel just to watch you cook.
BYOY to that party!
ah the richesse, must be some pretty important guests to a party with that served!
Shout out to Yung Bae in this video! Respect
Wow! This looks amazing! I just got the Xmas lobster out of the freezer for a meal in 2 days.
Look out Christmas...It's about to get crabby!
I love this channel 😊
Dang that looks good. We have fresh Dungeness crab here, but it’s expensive. That tray would be 50 buck for the crab you poured in.
Allergic to tomatoes. Is there something I should try subbing for that or do you think omitting is fine? Looks delicious!
YOUNG Bay? This guy probably parties so hard.🎉❤
Have you any idea what the Old bay seasoning would be equivalent to in the UK?
..."That" being said, you're a very good cook.
Orange cheddar makes every dish looks like a junk food. White cheddar is way to go, always. Bonus point if it is British cheddar
+1 and Ha. I have that same flatware set from World Market 🎉
Crab has a wonderful but mild flavor so that’s why I believe mild cheddar works better.
Tortilla chips would be amazing with this.
You are the executive of Dip! Administration of the Crustacean.
Yummy..😊
My husband absolutely flipped over this. I used the refrigerator crab, but not lump (cha-ching). So much crab flavor. This could easily be 16 servings. But we didn't eat it that way 😉
