And he mistakenly mentions the CX-50 around the 4:24 mark. The CX-5 is kinda in a weird position in Mazda's lineup, with some reviewers comparing it to the Subaru Forester instead. But yeah, the CX-30 is a better direct comparison to the Crosstrek instead of the CX-5.
@@John-qh3sl Disagree a little. The cx-30 has a torsion beam suspension on the rear. The cross trek has much better suspension like the cx-5 does for commuting. You will notice it over time. I would have compared the CX-5 premium since this is the lowest mazda trim with satellite radio that most commuters desire. The Cross Trek Limited without the sunroof/harman kardan option MSRP's for around $33. Going above that price point for a cross trek is a little crazy and the CX5 starts making a lot more sense.
I loved my ‘21 crosstrek - the legendary subaru symmetrical awd, practicality, and ruggedness makes it a great choice. I traded it in for a ‘24 cx5 turbo coz I needed a little more space, spend 99% on-road and just wanted to get away from the cvt. The cx-5 is just so much more fun to drive!
@@TONSBERG100 good luck. For me a big turnoff was the CVT transmission in the Crosstrek. Also, from the research that I did, the CX-5 seems to have the bigger edge with reliability.
One thing that's clear after car shopping for a while... cars are just as much about "image" management and fashion as anything else. There is literally nothing about either of these cars that makes one "better" for mountain biking (you can get roof rails and all weather matts for the CX-5). And "luxury" isn't necessarily about comfort or practicality (as you point out, the leatherette of the crosstrek may actually be easier to clean up after than real leather), it's just a collection of fashion/style que's that we associate with rich people. We humans are so odd.
You want the 2.5L on the crosstrek so you can merge properly on the highway. Assembled in Indiana, but I think the trans and engine come straight from Japan.
This is a decent comparison. These cars have a similar price and features, cross trek is Subarus best seller, Cx-5 is Mazdas. I am cross shopping these two. As a larger guy I don’t fit in a CX-30 which is too bad because I like that car besides that. I fit in a crosstrek fine with no sunroof

People love the color of the seats..It actually draws alot of attention it seems? The wheels are sharp also. I'm single with no kids and the cargo area to me is bigger than I thought. It's not really huge but its a sporty car...The back seats are somwhat smaller than I thought, but have no kids, it's great to me. I bought it for 25,000 and there's 26, 570 miles on it. I love it and it's quick and fast. The tereo is a bose with 10 speakers in it.. This stereo is the best stereo I ever had in a vehicle.. It's a automatic and standard, push the shifter to the left about an inch and becomes a stick..There's also a switch for IDK? for better handling and more speed? I changed batteries recently and noticed the battery had panasonic on the side? Duh, I realized it was made in japan.
It’s not closer in price. Your listening comprehension skills need tweaking. He gave the MSRP for both and the Crosstrek is $2k-$3 more than the CX-5 which shows how poor of a value the Crosstrek is. 🤡
Subaru, just more user friendly, the rear camera moves to show you exactly where you're going to end up, where the Mazda just has a "painted" on guide.
The Subaru is $2k - $3k more than the CX-5 and it has a non turbo weak 4 cylinder motor. If bending back up lines are worth $2k to you, then go for it.

Not going to suffer summer heat with a black interior. Can't imagine how many thousands of potential customers walked away because of these games. Look up a White Pearl with an interior color other than black. Low HP ( Turbo only adds 40HP and requires high octane fuel ). Turbo's can be problematic ( require's regular maintenance ) and can easily become damaging especially to a small engine. e.g.Look up Ford Ecoboost. A Turbo/ Full-Time AWD/Roof Rack means Performance and MPG are being robbed. Probably -12mpg for those 3 items. Subaru with their CVT is potentially risky and unreliable. Drive it. Research it. It is a weak A/T and can only be replaced. 7 different models with the lowest costing you $30K by the time you get it off the lot and bloodied by the dealership. If you do not comply they will find a way to void your warranty. These are the same wonderful people who sold you the car. You don't get much for your money with either of these and after 3yrs your $40K+ vehicle will be worth $28K i.e. -10%yr. ( if perfectly maintained and looking like new ).
