Hey great video! I work for mazda and the CX-50 is based on the CX-30 platform which is a module platform that under pins the Mazda3 & MX-30! It’s actually slotted between the CX-5 and CX-9 and will compete with midsize crossovers like the RAV4
Aside from the Mazda 3 I've never really liked at Mazda until seeing this vehicle. It's absolutely stunning and I love the bulky sides and the rugged looking front. I think Mazda created a real winner with this vehicle. Can't wait to see the hybrid version and the increased fuel economy. What a vehicle....... Dammn
You’re putting out wrong info. It’s not smaller than the cx-5. Crosstrek is subcompact and this Cx-50 is a bigger compact segment. It’s longer, wider, slightly lower than the cx-5, so Mazda is aiming more like the Subaru Outback or forester, not crosstrek. I don’t think it competes with the wilderness package because that thing has 9.5 inch of ground clearance and from the looks of the cx-50, it probably will only have 8.5 inches of ground clearance at best. Maybe 8.8 inches to beat out Subaru line the bronco sport badlands.
That's a good point. Mazda confirmed more of the dimensions recently and the CX-50 competes more directly with the Subaru Forester (midsize crossover segment.)
It may be competition for the crosstalk , but the Turbo Outback add more power and luxury the onyx is a great comparison toy th cc50 turbo close in size& price . Most reviews have them tied, but Outback is roomier. And has a bigger display that’s a real touchscreen vs the knob controlled frustration on Mazda the cvt is actually better than the6 speed as far as smoother ride and Subaru is the king of off roading with the best AWD in the bizz the Outback shorter with a longer wheelbase so it rides smoother with much more cargo space .
Yes I like it I had a Subaru Outback for ten years with a real transmission. But when they went with the CVT I said no! I can wait to see it in the New York Auto Show and to order one for me. I also like that they merged with Toyota to provide this vehicle. Good move!
Agreed this is looking good. Not sure if we can give it the win with engine and trans, just different. There are benefits to the boxer engine plus they can't achieve their symmetrical awd system that they are famous for without the cvt. It will be hard to beat their balanced awd system but damn that looks nice.
I think Mazda's AWD will be "enough" for most customers that are seeking to go outdoors. Maybe a bit less capable than Subaru's system, but potentially more durable & reliable with the 6-speed automatic. I agree, it looks great!
@@GibbsEmphasis Totally agree. I have crazy winters and lean towards Subaru but agree Mazda would do fine. It's definitely fair to compare and give wins in certain areas, I just tend to feel they are still different and appeal to different peoples interests. If anything were to make me jump ship it's the refined interiors and driving experience.
facts!! i have the CX-5 it is a 4 passenger vehicle. These compact CUVs are 4 person vehicles with the occasion of a 5th --> Wouldn't recommend for an out of town trip

Hey! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be updating the description with the corrections now that those dimensions have been confirmed.
@@GibbsEmphasis It has been confirmed.
Not true
@@mbenton6 it’s absolutely 100% a fact. Straight from the mouths of Mazda Canada!
Does it have the CX30 suspension?

A quick FYI . The front vents are indeed functional. Only the rear ones aren’t .

Agree with what I've read that this is a segment above the crosstrek.
It is bigger than the CX-5....wider, longer and perhaps a little taller.
Thanks for catching this. Updated the description to reflect the correction!
Cx-50 and Crosstrek won’t compete in the same price league. Cx-50 will get you more features and luxury/style for more $$.

They are enhancing their AWD system in the cx-50 also. I drive the current system in snow a lot and honestly its already just as good as Subaru's
The great Mazda CX 50
2 1/2 kids would not fit in this car. Really designed to fit 2 with the occasional extra 1 or 2 guests.
