Well they come and pull me from my house Drag my wretched body through the streets And the sun’s so hot I think I’ll catch fire and burn up In the summer air so moist and sweet And the people all come out to cheer Rocks in the pathway break my skin And there’s honeysuckle on the faint breeze today With every breath I’m drawing in I want to cry out but I don’t scream and I don’t shout And I feel so proud to be alive And I feel so proud when the reckoning arrives Crowds grow denser by the second As we near the center of the town And they dig a trench right in the main square right there And they pick me up and throw me down And I start laughing like a child And I mark their faces one by one Transfiguration’s gonna come for me at last And I will burn hotter than the sun I’ve waited so long and now I taste jasmine on my tongue And I feel so, so proud to be alive And I feel so proud when the reckoning arrives
@rrch88 mmhm, whenever my group does this bit we use "harder"and the crowd seems to react to it. I mean, sure- if you're burning hotter than the sun, you're pretty hot. But if you're burning harder than the sun, well..
John is my favourite musician of all time, period, but this is a weak Mountain Goats performance, imo. He sounds sick, like he is getting over a cold. Check out the live version of Nine Black Poppies he did for Spin, its on here. Easily the best Darnielle live clip I've seen.
Well they come and pull me from my house
Drag my wretched body through the streets
And the sun’s so hot I think I’ll catch fire and burn up
In the summer air so moist and sweet
And the people all come out to cheer
Rocks in the pathway break my skin
And there’s honeysuckle on the faint breeze today
With every breath I’m drawing in
I want to cry out but I don’t scream and I don’t shout
And I feel so proud to be alive
And I feel so proud when the reckoning arrives
Crowds grow denser by the second
As we near the center of the town
And they dig a trench right in the main square right there
And they pick me up and throw me down
And I start laughing like a child
And I mark their faces one by one
Transfiguration’s gonna come for me at last
And I will burn hotter than the sun
I’ve waited so long and now I taste jasmine on my tongue
And I feel so, so proud to be alive
And I feel so proud when the reckoning arrives
whoa, this came up on some playlist I was listening to! I was at this show!
great song!
great vid
@rrch88 Harder in this sense would mean with great intensity. Hotter would mean with greater heat. I think harder would have a stronger effect.
The lyric would have the same meaning. "Harder" is just a more expression-ate word, imho.
"I will burn harder than the Sun"

The lyric "hotter than the sun" might be cooler if it were "harder than the sun".

it would be cool to the extent that changing anything would be cool, but it wouldn't make sense at all in the context of the song!
