Actually, if you know a trustworthy mechanic, a salvage title car can be an amazing bargain. Especially if you do not plan on reselling it. My first car that i ever owned was a 97 Mustang LX that i got in 99 with extremely low miles it. Around 22k miles. Was extremely reliable. We paid 3k for it and put 3k in parts and labor in it. So when I was 16, I got an almost new V6 Mustang for around 6k. I still own the car today and put over 200k miles on her. I'm in the process of putting a V8 in her and giving it to my son as his first car. I love your content by the way.

Appreciate the solid tips, I bought a 2019 Kia Niro LX, made the smart decision to do a big down payment, but got screwed by not getting a full inspection of the car before purchasing it, was a few damages from them leaving their cars outside over night, every night.

Sometimes, the seller will try to pass off a vehicle that they claim "Has never been in an accident"
The magnet will tell you how true this is as body filler (Bondo) isn't magnetic

As far as used cars. Do a car fax and check the V.I.N
Things you want in a first car:
Cheap to purchase
Good on emissions (low road tax)
Fuel efficient
In a low insurance group
Reliable
AKA a Corolla or a Civic
These things apply if you're in school:
Practical
... Whatever
Any estate car (SUVs are a nono, unless its a proper off roader and you actually need one)
These things apply if your anything like me:
Fast
Insane tuning potential
Looks the part
So I would go for a Lexus LS430 (the facelift one; the earlier LS430s looked awkward)

If you're buying a used, check out all of the fluids, especially transmission fluid if you're buying an automatic
If there's sawdust particles in the transmission fluid

that's an old mechanics trick to keep the transmission being able to engage & is a sure sign the transmission isn't up to par

I bought the blinker fluid package on my car. It's a must have if not the most important package.
Thankfully i have a dad that pretty handy with cars whos willing to help me look for cars but this video helps me know that i can look for cars on my own if needed

in Ontario, stolen are almost always get parted out. Years ago I moved into a "new" bodyshop and on the top racks along one wall were a GANGLOAD of honda motors and transmissions. We called the cops and told them, they came in and EVERY SINGLE ONE was from a stolen car....

Manufacturers place rebates on models to sell. Once they've got their quota usually the manufacturer pulls money away, not the dealer. VW is notorious for this. One month they'll have 5k off, next month 2500. Or vice versa. I figure if it's the right car in your budget, do it that month.

I hope to plan on buying a '04 Nissan 350z that my older brother showed me on Facebook Marketplace. However I will wait until I save some more money and I will wait until my twin brother is done with his first trimester of college so he can have the car that I am currently driving. Which is a 2003 Toyota Camry LE that we originally shared for almost a year, there's not that much room on the family's driveway so that is why.

lol my rebuilt g37 I sold for 8k was in a minor accident and I fixed the door and fender got it painted and good as new, just cause something is rebuilt doesnt mean its 100% bad I have owned 2 rebuilt cars and it has been the most fun I have had in my life plus they are usually a tiny bit cheaper and if you know how to work on cars, 100% worth it

Yea going after the 2018 Lexus ES250 EX it's like R300 000 something here in south Africa which is about $17k in the US
The only thing I disagree with is the "salvage" issue. If... IF you know what your doing and depends what the damage to the car was, a person can actually walk away with a sweet deal. My current track car was a salvage title due to a small front impact. Airbags did not deploy, just bumper issue, so I cut off the damaged part of front bumper, welded on new section, added new bumper skin and got an alignment... car drives and brakes at low and high speeds as straight as an arrow. Overall I paid thousands less for the car and that's what made it possible for me to have a second car/ track car. Ok, ok... I suppose it helps to be a certified welder, but that aside😝 you know, on second thought I think Brad's right, for an average person looking for a regular car, stay away from salvage titles.

man am so pissed at the fact that you didn't post this video earlier... i brought an imported nissan pathfinder platinum 2013 with 100k miles on it for 12k from a dealership and thought it was a good enough deal. but at the end with all add ons like rust proofing and paint protection and everything my final cost came to 14k and the car came with only a 1 month warranty. but then exactly after 1 month i was driving my car and it broke down on a highway and then i had to call a mechanic and after inspecting the car he told me the "xtronic cvt transmission is damaged and needs to be replaced" and told me that it will cost 2k. so i went to the dealer and they refused to take my car in for repair as the damage happen 4 days after the warranty period. now i'm here with a broken ass pathfinder that doesn't even work.
That's why i don't like nissan's or infiniti's

Tip - if your buying a new car deals don’t tell you if they don’t have the model that you want you can have one order in the way you want it you just have to put down a deposit it can be like 1000$ and up

I bought a car with a non op title a month ago for $560. 89’ Camry Wagon. Took $200 just to get it registered again

I once asked a dealer if he had a Seat Leon for up to 6k. He said he hadn't at the moment, but magically had one up his sleeve two days later for exactly 6k.
He claimed it had only 106k on the odometer and was in mint condition, registered to only one person before.
He opened the car manually by the drivers side door, as I later found out because the electric locks didn't work.
Somehow, the last inspection papers were 5 years ago. And surprise surprise, it was registered as a company car and had around 210k on the odometer on the last check up.
When I went for a test drive the dealer gave me a 15 minute time limit, which immediately rang my alarm bells.
Also, he tried to push me into signing the contract quite fast and would have had the contract run on his wife, as a private person, to evade the mandatory 2 year warranty a dealer would have to give.
I was pretty sad because I really wanted that car, but at the same time I was happy to have dodged quite a bullet. Don't let those assholes scam you.

@@malistorm_17 Infiniti's are very nice and stuff, but they are made by nissan, so they have terrible transmissions, i wouldn't recconmend an infiniti, at least a newer one. The older ones are pretty good.

Never tell a dealer you are paying cash!!! Keep that information under your hat until the very last moment when you are in the finance manager’s office also, never agree to pay the asking price for dealer prep. This one item is a huge rip-off.

Sometimes just cosmetic damage can be enough to make a insurance company say your car is not worth saving
