I took 2 pieces of 2x12's. cut a 45 degree angle at both ends and placed them between the wheels and the ramp. It gave it enough clearance and took me about 5 minutes to make. I've used them for about 20 years.
I have those same exact ramps. I simply use two....2 x 4 pieces that are 24" long each. I lay each 2 x 4 about 5-6 inches up the ramp, centered with my tire, and then drive my car onto the 2 x 4 pieces and then right up onto the ramp. I may drill holes in the ends of the 2 x 4 pieces at the ends that lay on the ramp....then drill holes through the ramps.....then drop a steel bolt down into the hole so the wood pieces cannot slide anywhere as I drive up onto them and then onto the ramp.
I agree with everyone that says you are doing way too much work. watch your own video and lay your 2x10 flat, cut a piece 1foot and a second 8 inches. lay the long one on the floor put the short one on top, stagar about an inch and a half, put three screws in them, done. If you think you have to have them put a 45% on each end, 5 min. tops and you are done at 1/4 the cost of wood.
hello everyone,if you do not have wood around, but maybe a pair of old brake rotors, you can chuck the front of the front wheels with the rotors, then drive on top of the hats of the old rotors, in most cases giving you an extra inch or two of clearance. great video as the wood set up will be a more permanant fix. :) i love your 240 and the videos. i hope this helps someone who may not have wood laying around.
i used this trick when i had low cars come in to the shops i worked at with lifts, it helped get the lift arms into position, and to help get em up on alignment racks.
You're headed in the right direction but needs a little tweeking. Cutting one single 2x8 (with the right angles) would've worked just fine and if you needed it to be longer (for a shallower angle) cut another board (with the right angles) and place it underneath to fill in the gap. Also, drill 2 holes in the top to drop a couple 16 penny nails to keep it from sliding apart.
Hello Kyle- excellent name, by the way. I think the stripping is VERY necessary otherwise you end up like me with your car throwing the damn things back if you have front-wheel drive or don’t have posi-track, etc.
Great job Kyle..good lighting, good editing, you're easy to understand and follow. Fun project too. BTW, paint that block wall gloss white and be amazed at how much light it reflects. Thanks for posting. This is my 1st visit, now I'm a subscriber.
Great job man! Ignore all the geniuses who feel like they have to remind the rest of us that throwing down a chunk of plywood would work just as well, as if that enlightening piece of wisdom is lost on anyone. Lazy turds.
You are truly a fart smeller, I mean smart feller !!! Great job using a skill saw like that. This is exactly how I am going to solve My problem. Thanks for posting!
first 7 seconds of the video had me confused, this car sits perfectly fine to drive right up them ramps. if I did what this guy just did I'd have no damn bumper left, AT ALL lmao 😂 #lowcargang
you mean 1. place the board(s) FLAT on ground 2. drive up onto the board - now car is higher by the thickness of the board 3. position the ramps against the wheels, and if there's now clearance, drive up the ramps that right ?
hey Kyle, this is pretty sick! I'll definitely have to try! would love to know where you are located love the s13 been a follower for a while but never realized I wasn't subbed! can't wait for the next video! thanks.
I wanna know how you kept the black plastic ramps from sliding on a smooth concrete floor. I used to have to stick small flat crowbars in the crack between the apron and the floor itself and butt the ramps up against them to keep them from sliding
good idea/setup.........one long HAIR to another---KEEP THAT HAIR TIED UP TIGHT USING SAW instead of the tape you could use the kitchen cupboard/shelf liner that's no-skid DOLLAR GENEREAL..............cut out a piece bigger than ramp lay on ground, then lay ramp on top that notice you might be around 75--285 area,me too but south
great useful design. have the same issue and need to change the oil tomorrow, going to give it a try. you started to mention the use of plywood as a possible tweak of the "multiboard" design you built-can you elaborate on that idea before i attempt to duplicate your design? maybe something that i can make w/o the need to wait over night for the setting/drying stage.. thanks so much for your input.
By using thinner plywood, its much easier to cut. You'll have to cut a lot more boards though. Then I would clamp them together, run a long pilot hole through all of them and run big carriage bolts through with a washer and nut on the other side.
my car is also too low...or ramps too high? I jack the car up and put the ramps under the wheels...much cheaper, faster safer...this is nice but how long will they last..? And to me looks like your car is not really too low for these ramps...:-)
Я понимаю когда такое делают из отхода древесины, но у него цельная доска была, из которой путем нескольких действий можно сделать подобное. При этом можно обойтись лишь ножовкой. Да, капитализм мне не понятен.
What a waste. All you need is 3/4 plywood up the ramp with 2x4's to span it to the floor. You should also bolt or screw the plywood to the ramp. Simple & quick. No big deal.
Yeah I know it's a waste. Just felt like going the extra mile on something. Oh well, ya live and learn. I would definitely approach this differently now.
Good lord. What did i watch? A machinist you're not. That was painful. Firstly, clamp your work when cutting. Also, use 1 as a template once cut so they all are the same shape. Then screw them together while gluing, screw 2 together, add 1, screw on and so on. Belt sand after. Then lay on existing ramp and screw up through to hold into place. This vid made my hair stand on end. Unlike yours which i was waiting to get caught in one of the tools.
At 0.08 seconds you said you are showing us a QUICK little hack. In what way shape or form is this a quick little hack?! Please edit your video and remove that. You are a misleading human.

I just use 'ol 2x4's cut to 18". 😁
What was the length you used for each side? 2-3 feet?

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention. The market is begging for this or something similar, as the demand outnumbers the supply. Nice job!
U should make em and sell them on Amazon
Nice tutorial… You make This Old House look like a shack! Skills
You could have made 2 straight cuts and put a few flat boards before your ramps :0)
Thnx Kyle, I may have to do this Monday. Ramp coming is 6.3 inch, my car's clearance is just above 15cm, about 16.3 inch. Nice channel BTW
Thanks Kyle, I may have to do this asap
It is also possible to buy ramp extensions for certain ramps. Some retailers sell these ramp extensions.
Can you advise where?! Been searching to no avail so far!

Thanks for the instructional video with out a single instruction
That's cool, but a whole lotta work when a flat board will do the job.
lol, yup..use the dang board he had before he cut into it...lol

lost charisma can u demostrate this. I am interested. Have a ramp issue dont want to buy new ramps
That was really slick! You just got another subscriber. Your channel has a lot of potential, at least amongst the long-haired, gear-head, White boys.
Cool useful project tip, thanks for posting👍
Thanks!
Cheaper to buy low profile or RV level ramps and sell yours on Craigslist.

Definitely the perfectionists route, maybe some Velcro to keep them together as there was some unavoidable shifting. Still did the job quite well
Thank you!
Great video! Thanks
Wish you could make a hack for getting the back wheels onto ramps and the fronts at the same time
Hello Kyle- excellent name, by the way. I think the stripping is VERY necessary otherwise you end up like me with your car throwing the damn things back if you have front-wheel drive or don’t have posi-track, etc.

Put them on hinges connected to the ramp
Hi does anyone know a commercially available version of this yet?! Searching to no avail... Very good idea, so can't see why not available!
Love it
Good job
I would just make my own ramps....nothing store bought is built good today!!! I've seen store bought ramps collapse!! I still like your video though!
Good job!
Thanks!
2 jack stands and a jack. Done in no time!
Yeah but who wants to jack up their car and put it on stands for an oil change? :p
@@lilblingking1491 that shit only takes like 1 minute to do with a good jack
My stock bmw 335 is too low for floor jack. Needs at at least drive onto 2x4 to barely fit a floor jack.
METALLICA bro!!

He was a carpenter after all!
...and that guy from dazed and confused

Hey, Jesus is still a carpenter.
those are nice but man that is a lot of work!
you can buy those for 5 bucks on amazon
bern dog What are they called on Amazon? Nice job for the original poster, but that is quite a bit of work.
Pin your extension to your ramp..mine simply lift off for storage
Nice dude. Great video, great idea. Thanks for posting

Totally agree! Just go slow up ramps!
Love the car! Is that a 240sx?
Nice tunes w the vid
Actually before all that! Just place a 10 foot 2x6 behind your front wheels. It will give you enough lift
you mean
1. place the board(s) FLAT on ground
2. drive up onto the board - now car is higher by the thickness of the board
3. position the ramps against the wheels, and if there's now clearance, drive up the ramps
that right ?

Austin Laflamme hey thanks man! and I'm in Georgia
I whacked a long desk size piece of wood down, took me 23 seconds
what about rear of the car?
I wanna know how you kept the black plastic ramps from sliding on a smooth concrete floor.
I used to have to stick small flat crowbars in the crack between the apron and the floor itself and butt the ramps up against them to keep them from sliding
Physics were on my side I guess haha
I just put a couple bricks in front of the ramps. Never had another problem
WAY TOO much effort involved
Is it too much work for a handy tool that will last a LIFETIME!
Some people derive great pleasure in futzing around in the shop and garage.
No need to judge.

Nice ! can I borrow ?
Thats good for in the pinch...But if I used the ramps a lot I would just buy the low profile ramps...
Just use rubber mats on the bottom of them
hmm? im looking for alternatives as well. rubber mats under the ramps or before the ramp?
👍👍😊
