    I was fortunate to have studied world music in the '70s at Wesleyan Univ. where L.Shankar taught South Indian music theory and performed regularly on campus. It was clear all along that Shankar was a world-class talent. John McLaughlin was a regular visitor to campus, absorbing Indian musical traditions and learning from performers immersed in classical Indian music traditions who were also open to the vanguard of western jazz and classical music. Shankar is an incredibly skilled and sensitive musician. He is also very articulate about music theory -- a rarity in that most people who really "get it" can't really explain "it" to lay people. Shankar is just a remarkable musician.

    Mr. Shankar composed and played the very haunting music for the vampire movie: Queen of the Damned" wherein a beautiful Gypsy Woman played a haunting violin piece called: "On the Beach / Lestat's violin." She acted out playing the piece but it was Mr. Shankar that played it for the movie and soundtrack He also provided all the haunting Middle Eastern sounding background vocals and double violin music for the movie as well.

      indeed, it was beautiful. plus what better to give the sense of an unearthly violin skill than a guy who was such a badass at playing the violin that not only was what tools were already here not good enough for him, he had to make his own.

    An ancient melody, a vision of a castle in the storm of winter engulfed by dwindling darkness. Amongst the dampen window a fire crackles within, a fireplace as majestic as the roof that towers above, playing amidst this, an old friend as timeless as the tones he cast upon my brethren heart. He that comes to grant me the dark gift. Soon... I will be cast aside this worlds woes, for I will walk among the immortals.

    Classical Indian musicians got into the film industry really early, Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan of course. It seemed to break down some barriers, because nowadays ANY of the best of the younger musicians will do a pop album if the feel like it. Anoushka Shankar, of course - she plays a GREAT lead sitar style! Also, guitarist Debashish Bhattacharysa , violinist Kala Ramnath, L Shankar, Trilok, it was young mandolinist U Srininvas who died so suddenly.

    I have no doubt this comes up later in the comments - 244 as I'm saying this - but people born with western ears (not our choice, right?) who are digging this will not just enjoy but get pretty excited by his recordings with "Shakti," a group he had with John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussein.
    For me it remains the best and purest blend of Indian music and jazz out there, brilliant, fantastic, all the things like that. The album Natural Beauty stands out, which contains this acheingly beautiful closing piece, Peace Of Mind.

    Fascinating the connection between vampire culture and classical Indian music, thought it may be a newly explored concept to associate with vampires it is a combination of both some of the most technically complicated genres of music to produce instrumentally, is from a culture foreign to the americas and Europe, and it steps heavily between major and minor melodies spastically leaving the listener in anticipation but without structural closure leaving them uneasy, and the writing recorded from nearly and some ancient times.

    • @MrAshuxp
      @MrAshuxp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      vampire is Indian concept in India there are lot of sect who practice vampire ritual from past to prolong life span they called pisach there are lot of kind of pisach is there but mainly two type you find one is rakt pisach (blood drinker) and other is tam pishach (soul grabber) you even find the tomb of vampire princess here who caught drinking blood by her father and got killed and burred in murshidabad.

    Wootz steel, or ancient 'damascus steel', crucible steel...[the ulfberht viking swords were made from traded wootz ingots to vikings. Same with Syrian blacksmiths, legendary... but still could only master working, shaping ,and forging the ingots into blades. Many shamshir swords are still found, made from the best steel in history.
