Taking naps and having dogs doesn’t always work together. My dogs want to play 24/7 and 365 days a year, especially when they see me laying in bed. They start doing all sort of funny things to get my attention and make me play with them. Barking, bringing toys, invading my space, taking my bed, trust me, my dogs try everything. Dog owners out there, can you relate?

Yes you can…. My two labs learned not to bother or make noise when I was sleeping. Over time they knew not to bark @ 2 AM, etc…. While this is cute and all, in reality, the dogs are training her, not the other way around.

The only way I was ever able to get my dog to let me sleep after sunrise was when I started putting his dog bed on _top_ of my bed (at its foot). Somehow that was enough to get him to understand that my bed was for sleeping just like his was, and he would snooze there on his bed until I decided it was time to get up.
So wonderful.

Ah...reminds me of my dearly departed Lassie. He was a rough coat pure bred collie and when he was young we kept him in the house...he was a good dog but when he wanted to play there was no way you were going to get a nap in unless someone else tired him out first by playing with him. He was also rather...jealous of certain things..As a kid I had a beanbag chair and we would push each other out of it cause it wasn't big enough for a dog his size and a kid my size at the time, he got tired of the game and said "If I can't have it no one can" and shredded the beanbag chair. He was also very protective of me since I had him from the time he was a puppy and was quite the Houdini when it came to escaping his dog lot we made for him, which was MASSIVE and half on my mom's property and half on her parents' property as they lived next door to each other...I still miss him, he passed away in his sleep of old age...he was a good dog and I have some great memories of him.
