Let's get down to Earth. GM is not going to develop a power unit from now until the homologation date, even if some work has been done already. Neither will Cadillac run with a Honda PU. So, if GM is going to enter the sport, it will do so in 2028 at the earliest. It is extremely optimistic to expect any kind of power unit to be ready before then.
GM was already going to badge Renault units as Cadillac, that was their original plan over a year ago. Join in 2026, run customer engines (with Cadillac badging) then their own motors by 2028. They are very likely going to be badging Honda units as Cadillac, which is better than their original plan to badge Renault units. Factor in Andretti's connection to Honda and Honda and GMs already strong working ties and it will be a no brainer for GM to badge Honda units until 2028.

@@captain_context9991 so ur telling me that f1 managment were fine a few years ago with the entry but then they deny it, after that andretti steps down and immediatly they accept them as a new team and that isnt personal? also I think theres worse teams than what andretti would be but ok
@@shadowduds
@shadowduds
All the other fluff is just public perception. Im trying to explain it in general terms.
The fact is... GM / Cadillac does not have the technology or engineering skills to race F1. So they are trying to blag their way into F1 by using Andrettis international street cred and GMs money. But F1 is not taking the bait because they know that it would just be Cadillacs logo on somebody elses car. And F1 does not want to be just a billion dollar corporate marketing deal. Thats not what F1 is about.
So after a lot of back and forth, Andretti / Cadillac are viewed as grifters and hustlers and made themselves unpopular.
@@captain_context9991 "GM / Cadillac does not have the technology or engineering skills to race F1"
they have done incredible advancements, they definetly have the technology, in the video they have already talked about wind tunnel testings, cockpit safety and they have gained so many plp from the F1 world already. Also I want to point out that Haas still doesnt have a simulator after 9 years in the sport, I would bet Haas is less technologically advanced than Andretti rn.
And GM is the largest car manufacturer in america theres no way they dont have the technology.
@@shadowduds
Yeah.... By setting up a proxy in England where 80% of F1 teams are. Where they can easily buy the manpower, engineering skills and technology.
If you need further proof of this. Look at Cadillacs new LeMans team. Which is exactly 0% engineered by themselves.
Haas is another America-LICENSED team. They have a headquarter in North Carolina, but all their tech is done in Banbury England and Maranello Italy. They got an engine from Ferrari, chassis from Italian Dallara, and bought their racing team from ex Jag and Red Bull employees.
At least the FIA and FOM are showing consistency in how inconsistent they are
I genuinly not know how to feel about this news🤷🏻🤷🏻
I think more big manufacturers in f1 can only be a good thing. Be cool to see bmw come back aswell
@@Theriotwright
Problem is... GM, Cadillac, does not have anything CLOSE to the technology or expertise to race F1. So everything has to be bought in from other companies. Which means it will be just a GM badge on somebody elses technology and engineering.
And F1 does not want to be just a billion dollar corporate marketing deal. Thats not what F1 is for. Mercedes, Toyota, BMW, Honda, all of them run their own tech. Cadillac would not. And as if this needed more proof, Cadillac also runs a new LeMans team, but not a single screw or bolt is made by Cadillac themselves. Because no American racing team has that kind of expertise.
@@shanefanon There's a bit of comment on your bitterness
@shanefanon bro what is wrong with you, I literally just wrote I don't know if GM would be a good or bad thing for the sport😂😂
"Liberty Media" about to get some real liberation 🦅🦅💥💥🇺🇸🇺🇸
Liberty Media is an American owned company lol
Could GM not buy Renault's 26 emgine enry?
You need to work on your ad transitions….it was like a car accident in this video
Could the exit of Mafei on the Liberty, who quote "would personally make sure Andretti woill never get on the grid," be also a factor to this
Andretti has not left, simply behind the scenes, his stepping down was a prerequisite to get into F1
The Euros are afraid of a Burger team.
Who did he piss off ?? There has to something that’s kept him out till now
The fact that F1 doesn't want the GM vs. Ford (Red Bull) rivalry is crazy
So this was clearly a "I'm not letting Michael anywhere near F1" was the only true factor
Well... GM wants to hustle and scam their way into F1 using Andrettis street cred and GMs money, but F1 does not want to be just a billion dollar marketing deal. It would be just a Cadillac logo on a car made by somebody else. Just like Cadillacs LeMans car which is 0% built, or run by Cadillac. Cadillac simply does not have the engineering or technology to be at F1 levels. So instead they are trying their best to sneak around the rules.
Andretti can run the team like Pratt Miller run Corvette Racing. I personally would choose Chevy rather than Cadillac as it’s already a global brand. Seeing the bow tie on the car would be so cool.
11:12 could have just changed the script, Lando?? 😂😂
I want them to absolutely humble the most arrogant people in F1
If Honda is the power-train they use, you could almost bet that Honda would insist on one of it's works drivers in the car...enter Yuki.
Is it just me but it seems like someone has a problem with Michael
I'm looking forward to hearing the VBSC jingle when they announce that they won't have Valteri as a driver.
This is the first time I've seen a video be sponsored by an entire grand prix circuit/city.
Indeed! Spot on RACE!
An Andretti built car on the grid before a works Audi car makes it to the grid is now actually possible - and would be hilarious.
I was so right! The delayed saying yes so the lego set for 2025 wasnt missing a team.
If it was down to the Donald, surely it would be Tesla on the grid…😳
Great video. Thanks for sharing
They really just have beef with andretti for no reason
And this is why the FIA should be in charge of F1, not Liberty Media
I will believe it when a car is on the grid. If then name Andretti doesn't get on the grid, but the GM bid does, that shows it was a personal attack on Micheal.
Yeah Baby!!!!!!! Let's get it on!!!!!!!
It's personal.
Would be funny if GM was supplied engines by Honda given how indycar is engine-wise
Currently GM engines in Indycar are built by Ilmor, who used to build the Honda engines before HPD got back into Indycar several years ago. So it's all very mixed up anyways. GM and Honda actually work together on many projects.
@ makes it even funnier then, the gm is actually honda underneath. And yeah they worked together on the EV platform the Honda Prologue sits on
@@charlespletzke8311 Traces back to Saturn, the 3.5L V6 in the Vue was from Honda, but other projects throughout, Honda receiving Isuzu diesel engines, a subsidiary of GM at the time.
The politics of the FIA and F1 are ridiculous.
Can SOMEONE explain WHY Liberty media head Greg Maffei and FOM in general have such a hard-on for the Andretti's FFS?
Its not about that. This is a case of Cadilac trying to hustle and sneak themselves into F1 using Andrettis street cred and GMs money. But F1 isnt playing along.
Good to see other people also can see what is going to happen here once everything is signed and greenlighted, Michael Andretti will be back doing whatever he wants no matter what.
"Cadillac" is such a weird choice of brand, being known for large luxury sedans for the most part. I'd have thought Corvette or something would be a better GM brand for racing
Soooooo F1 more or less just admitted they had a petty feud with a man and that’s why F1 didnt want the team???? So much for the “pinnacle of racing”
USA ban F1 from racing in the USA unless a real US team is permitted on the grid!
@@stevejh69 cota would be missed but not the other shit tracks and no us team. deal
Definitely Botas / Colapinto for Cadillac F1, Botas already has the mullet and Colapinto is South American, which is close enough really.
The whole Anti-Andretti plotline has me kinda hoping F1 falls apart once Max gets bored of it.
A full GM works team with more control sounds great. Couldn't care less if Andretti gets sidelined.
Need to sort by Newest because most of the top comments here are populated by replies from one git with a bone to give.
I'm not going to bother about the reasons for the rejection, because it seemed like F1 is being very political, so if there's a way to give the F1Group a black eye, I'd be very happy.
9:31 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 made me laugh out loud
I feel like at some point in the past, Michael Andretti told somebody at F1 their mother was fat, and ever since they have done everything to keep him out.
So basically it's a fuck you to Michael by F1.
Andretti/Cadillac... Is about to show “Formula-1”... The Fury Of Pure Americana, Big-Time?!
@@X-Warrior.1119 haha delusional
I have a driver suggestion too, one of America's greatest: Logan Sargent
It’s utterly weird that the team can’t wear the name of Andretti…
10:10 why would they make a deal with Honda, when a GM owned brand is literally competing with Honda in indycar?
Although it does look like they hate the guy I think the real reason is that they would be worried about such a weakly setup team (everything bought in externally) would lower the overall perceived value of formula 1, especially the top teams.
