to get the exact thickness, such as the big difference between the .178 and .203, use the .178 and piggy back a thinner feeler leaf on top so you're pressing both leafs through together until you get the right thickness and you get get your valves set dead on, dead on the looser tolerance.
@@turdpike bought another tensioner and it’s doing the same thing, I time it dead center line the dots up on the cams crank it up, it’s runs for 10 seconds and kills. Pull the valve cover off and it timing has been off again I’m trying to figure this out. Any advice would be appreciated
@@tragrif82 Hmmm. How does the chain feel up at the cams when the tensioner is engaged? Maybe it has stretched and the tensioner is unable to get it tight enough Other than that, that’s a bit of a head scratcher. If the chain is physically engaged on the crank and cams properly and tight that physically shouldn’t be able to happen.
Only other way off suggestion would be that make sure the flywheel is torqued down properly and has not slipped on it’s key. You’d think it’s impossible but I’ve seen this happen before.
Get chuself a multimeter if chu don’t have one already and test resistances of the stator coils. Assuming chu’ve already tried a new spark plug of course....?

No, more likely your tensioner is failing allowing the chain to slip.

@@turdpike I’ve replaced everything but the chain that’s my last option. After that it’s going to the bottom of the river.
