- KIT BUILDING MENTALITY BACKPACK TO HAVERSACK MODULARITY with Dave Canterbury
Set up a Haversack so that contents transfer easy from Backpack on the Trail to Haversack in the Field
Dave Canterbury discusses kit mentality
Constantly shifting modularity, between pockets (SAS smock with poachers pouch), belt kit and haversack/small pack/dump bag within my bergan build. I eventually invested in three different equipment sets. Equip and hump depending on mood, but also what the situational context demands, but mainly mood, plus it meets my need to have 'stuff' I can use and practice with..Love your posts DC ,ATB and prayers to you and yours from Scotland.
This reminds me of your old school videos. I like you have gone back to some of your basics
Great consistent content, very informative. Your message rings true.
Good video thanks Dave
like @ki4jlm i use a polish bread bag. mine is my vehicle bag. besides all the usual 10c stuff , it has a weeks supply of food in the form of SOLAS shortbreads. canteen wise i have a 2 qrt USGI one. with a couple pint single wall metal ones.
I use the same system mentality.
I carry a 46g foldable nylon backpack in my main backpack. If I wander off camp, I carry the essentials inside 🫡
Great vidoe Dave. Totally agree with this approach. 👍👊🏴
I still have my old pathfinder Duluth haversack that I got when they 1st came out. I use it a lot to put doves In When dove hunting. I just get a grocery bag and keep the doves in that so not to get the canvas all nasty. I also use it as a pillow a lot. I put some clothes in ot while camping and use it.
Pretty sweet setup! Ideally, I'd like something with the versatility of the lumbar pack on the SRO website or a waist pack or haversack that I could quickly detach from the top of my main bag to go on a scout/hunt.
Sweet and simple.👍
Nice setup Dave! Always check off the 5 Cs before leaving camp and you're good to go!!
I’ve got to look up that saw😲
Wow, I had just planned a similar kit using a sustainment pouch. The idea was to have stuff committed to my pockets, expand it with the pouch, and then a further expansion with the large pack. The idea is that I could layer the systems and merge them together as needed
Great info! 👍
Dave is the King
Great video Dave, I use the polish bread bag for the same purpose, the pockets on the inside allow for a bit more organization and allow for not only the onewind poncho but a couple of emergency blankets along with a 32 oz water bottle and grayl. Of course I also have the rest of the 10 c’s in there as well.
I still have one of your original canvas haversaks. I use it a lot!
I like to always have a haversack, the one I use most is a military cotton canvas(old school) map case, really nice, has slots for pens/pencils. I can place it under the flap of my rucksack. Enjoys this video, thanks Dave
I would use a small pouch for the fire making tools, can't stand loose things in a bag personally.
Very nice, as always well thought out.
I love the M34 flask, and it has a permanent place in my tree stand sling bag.
Thanks Dave
I need to put my haversack kit back together. Ive been using my scout pack all summer, bhlut i love havung just the essentials and a little bag of shotshells slung over my shoulder and rumbling around the woods for the day
Keeping it simple yet effective for the tasks that may be asked of the gear. Great job.
Brother Dave,
If you could, will you go over making the small game carrier displayed in the video? I have an old hunting vest for squirrels and birds but I like the simple option with the carabiner and para cord.
Thanks Brother/G\
I always like your kit ideas thanks
Looks like an awesome plan!
Good informational video.
Dave I found a M81 Molle qt canteen pouch in Woodland by safari land on EBay yesterday…you know I had to scoop it up 🤘🤘
Good practices for your needs.
Good info to know. Thank you
Always love your content and videos! Need to put in an order soon when things are back in stock. What silky saw is that? I like it
Great kit. Is there a video on your small game carrier? Thanks!
I must have learned this from you because I do something similar between a particular bike bag and a backpack and a haversack. I also bring a small spool of kevlar kite microcord, superglue, gauze, duct tape and more often I've been bringing a Sea to Summit Kitchen Sink for bringing back water to camp for cleanup tasks.
First! Enjoying your content, Dave!
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice kit. Looks like the Cuban fiber is about ready to be smoked!
Love that flask, got one for Christmas last year, beautiful piece. Is that a Silky saw with the rubber stripped out of the handle? Or what??
Should add some high calorie energy bars to eat in case you get stuck out.
Generally carry Jerky waiting on resupply Lol
I wish you did a desert class
Nice !!! 👌 Thanks
How often have you had to use a tourniquet in your life? Every one of the dozens of first aid courses I have attended have suggested that in the unlikely case that you encounter a situation where one may be required, that you are better to use a belt , scarf or similar to stop arterial bleeding. But I do understand them being carried in military situations.
Never and o do have a great belt for the job but because we also teach children the Rat TQ is the best option to have handy
Good stuff
Can you show us how you wrap that rats tq up?
I like that m34 sometime I take another water bottle2 I carry that m34 in my haversack
that silky handle is nuts, what is that???
Dave...I did that for a while...but I use a fanny pack...
Do you use game trail cams, and if you do, would like to hear your insight on the diff specs based on different uses each individual is seeking out
Hey Dave, do you think i should carry the flask or canteen in a polish bread bag. I plan on having the 64oz in a different canteen carrier from SRO. This is for international travel.
Im being redundant, dave do you sell that haversack at the store
Dave, is the silky a Suluk Yuka 240?
Yes
roughly how long is the hank of cord?
Why no food ?
To boil or drink water....or, have a little nip!
How old is your grandmother?
366
Thanks Dave
