  • Better late than never, my VCF East 2023 trip report is here! I had intended to edit and post this video while still on my trip, but the laptop I had with me experienced some malfunctions. Alas.
    The event was a blast, and it was great to meet so many people IRL that I've only known through social media platforms.
    There will be a follow-up video of all my trip pickups.

    Nicely done on your VCF East 2023 recap video. The gimble really helped with your walkthrough. Very cool you got to build your own XT-IDE. Those are so helpful to have for older computers for sure! I'm already subscribed 🙂 however I do want to see your pickups video.

      I think the next thing I need to do is... remember to change the shutter speed from 1/30 to 1/45 or 1/60. That should help with the motion blur. I usually leave it at 1/30 because there's not a lot of motion to be blurry in the lab here.

    Great walkthrough and commentary, and it was great to meet you there!

      Yes! Meeting people IRL was definitely the best part of the show... and the other parts were quite good.

    Cannot wait for the next video. When I have the rare opportunity to attend this kind of exposition (much smaller ones here in Europe) I also go through all of them like "have this one".. "would kill for this one"... "used this one (during the last century)"... What a trip mate, almost one month away from home.... Envy is what I feel.

      Europe has the Assembly, so... :) It's a bit different sort of event, I know. If my situation were a little different this year, I'd go to that too. It would be the 20 year anniversary of the last time I went!

    VCF EAST Consignment room was a disaster! At VCF MW it looked like people could just sell from their tables. That tiny room with all the people packed in it, just made me want to get out of it without looking around thoroughly. It was just too long of a wait to get in and too packed once you were in. If you were not one of the first in , then why bother?

      I went to VCF PNW 2019 (RIP Living Computer Museum), VCF West 2022, and VCF East 2023. The VCF East consignment "room" was about like the other two... but turned up to 11. I still found some neat stuff on Sunday near the end of the festival.

      @@TalesofWeirdStuff Yep, completely. I'm guessing VCF Midwest coming up this year is going to have a huge turnout, because of the youtubers.

    Unless something has changed very recently the museum at Infoage is owed/managed/maintained by VCF so none of the systems there were “on loan” for the event.

    • @ajacocks
      @ajacocks ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed, that's correct. All of the equipment in the museum is either owned by the Vintage Computer Federation, or is on long-term loan to VCF. The museum is a separate organization from the overall InfoAge Science Center, where it is located. VCF is a tenant of InfoAge.

    The consignment was a disaster in my opinion. I waited in line for over an hour.

      The line got super ridiculous for sure. I think they needed a bigger, more open space. That would have allowed more people in a time without everyone being on top of each other. Speeding up the checkout would have helped too.

    hi there used to be line like that out side computer fairs in the uk when they first came to my town
    as people started to make computers the new phones have killed the market place
    computers are very the same now why fairs like this are great to pic up gear we don't have them here
    any more in the UK

      I remember lining up for all kinds of things back in the day. Concert tickets, movies, lots of stuff... now the only thing people line up for is brunch. :)

    Fantastic video! What was that software/interface that you said that run on your machines? I think it was hmv, but I could be wrong. SGI definitely had some great industrial designs for their workstations!

    • @TalesofWeirdStuff
      @TalesofWeirdStuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the SGI machines? "hinv". It's short for "hardware inventory." When I first ran it, I mistyped "hwinv." :)
