Definitely agree, .308 is more efficient with lighter bullets, while the .30-06 shines with heavier bullets. .30-06 will kick a bit more with similar performance since it’s burning about 15 grains more powder. More payload, more gas, more recoil.
30-06 for me just for the variety of weights. However that is for hunting. I love my remington 760 in 30-06. However just like you said for combat purposes 308 all the way.
Ammo is cheaper in .308. Plus you can buy a AR-10 and dual purpose it for both SHTF and hunting. You start thinking like this when your large safe is literally completely full. You realize there are firearms that are more versatile/practical. I prefer the Ruger SFAR.
I've been debating over getting the Tavor 7, just for fun. However, I don't think I do well with recoil, because I tried a guy's .50AE DE at the range, & that thing made me jump out of my seat
What if money wasn't an option and you could buy one of the 16 or 18" .30-06 AR's? Pretty sure I would take the aught six for all scenarios. Now I need to find 2 or 3 grand laying around.
I might be wrong but I think the 06 is lower pressure on saami than let’s say 270. I don’t see how you would know the difference if you’re working up a load in your bolt action. A 270 brass and 06 brass would probably show signs at the same rate. I think that is where the 308 catches up in factory offerings. If you are reloading I think the 06 will pull away. Printed load data in my ruger pushes a 150 at 3grand out of the 06. 270 max is 65,000 308 max is 62,000 30-06 max is 60,000 If my google is correct. I’m not saying to exceed published data I’m just thinking this is why I believe they are as close as they are. My vote is always for the 06. If the 308 can do it so can the 06 and just a little more. Happy hunting 👍
I’m pushing a 150gr bullet 2829 fps from a 16” barrel with 308 using published load data. Not sure what the pressure is but it’s using cfe223 max charge on hodgdons site. Now I can’t get close to 06 speeds when I start using 180-200gr bullets.
@@thegundungeon That’s cooking for a 16” barrel. They are both good. I’m probably just partial because I’ve used a 06 for a long time. When things get hard to find the 308 seems to be more available so that is a plus. This is one of my favorite channels so keep up the good work 👍. Thanks for all the work you do. Happy hunting 🦌

06 cause I hand load…nuff said! 😂

Right now I don't have either. I have a necked down 30-06 called the 280 Rem. And I will eventually have another 308 semi-auto.
280 rem is awesome
That's a nice setup youve got there man
Thanks buddy
You know who hates 30.06? 1940s Germans. 😊
lol that’s a fact
You're killin me, Smalls.
Drop a note when you actually post it
lol 5pm

For combat, any 7.62 (including the 7.62 x39) beats the crap out of the 5.56.
30-06 is far superior, and I don't even own any. I hunt with either x39 or x54r.......
