Hi. Thanks for the video. Well spoken and informative. Just wanted to clarify you stated you would say how to transfer video from the drone to your phone towards the end but I never heard it (it was at the end during the caching segment). Do you have another video explaining this? Right now I’m just downloading the sd card to my pc but I would like to do it directly to my phone if I could.
Extremely helpful, well explained, and 100% useful to me. I'm about to order a Mini and doing research before I click "order" and this was spot on. Thank you.
Hey Rick, older traveler and newcomer to drones. I am thinking of getting the Mini. Wanted to thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with a great presentation! Making complicated things sound understandable and do able to a novice is a great skill. Thanx again will be watching. Robert
I got my Mavic Mini today and it is pouring rain so I am watching videos to get more information on how to use it. Thanks for all these great points...TTYL...
Thanks Rick. You mentioned that your Drone Valley cable cannot Quick Charge (QC) when more than one device is plugged in, however, at 6:45 and 7:18 it appears that the controller is indeed quick charging (fast blinking lights), even though the Mini and iPad are plugged in. Please clarify. Thanks.
Got mine in on Monday. You can charge batteries and remote at the same time. Plug in the charger as normal, plug remote into the usb port. Turn on the "powerbank" mode by short press then long press. Boom, charging battery abs remote.
Appreciate you taking the time to put this together. It is very informative for those of us who are new to flying a drone. I haven’t been able to put my mini down so I’m always up for consuming more info about it. Thanks!
Exactly. New iPhone 11 Pro Max. Have to remove case each time for cable to reach insertion point...sux. Does your smaller length cable have an extended iPhone connector?
The lith ion batts make the Mini interesting by itself. The ability to just leave them charged is a huge advantage. I love my M2 Zoom, but because of the limitations of lipos you have to plan ahead to fly. The lith ions mean I could leave the bats on the charger, look out the window and see it is a nice afternoon and just grab and go to the park and fly....this alone makes the mini a tempting buy and don’t think it is talked about enough as a advantage to this drone.
Tom, I agree and it's why I wanted to add it to this clip. I love that they moved to the Li-ion cells in the Mavic Mini and it does help to make it a grab-and-go quad. I appreciate you posting and hope you'll stop back for more content soon. Rick
Leaving Li-Ion batteries on the charger, or indeed storing them at full charge, is not a good idea, That's why eBike owners commonly will charge their batteries to 80% to prolong their life span, and there is a lot of discussion on this among Tesla owners. 'Battery University', and GRIN technologies websites are good resources for this subject.
@@MountainParameters Thanks for the post but Li-Ion cells are in most of the portable electronics on the market today including cell phones (some) and laptops and all of this gear is constantly being charged. In larger devices like cars (Tesla) and E-bikes and scooters it's good battery maintenance to keep them around 80% but with these smaller devices the batteries are being charged more often so the "wear leveling" is less of an issue because folks will burn through their 2000 re-charge cycles pretty quickly. These drones also have a faster and deeper discharge cycle than most other gear and this roughs the cells up a lot too. Stop back soon for more content I'll be posting this week. Rick
@@Dronevalley Thanks Rick, that's a great quick reply. I am as guilty as most, and do all the wrong things when recharging my phone (like leaving it one when charging), and drone battery. As a result, I accept that I will have to replace them sooner, rather than later. I think that as users, we accept that dynamic for smaller items. But when an good 52v eBike battery that uses 70 expensive cells is considered, it's no wonder that companies such as GRIN bring out smart chargers that you can set to change your SOC (Sate of Charge), which in turn will give you many more charge cycles at 80% than if your charged it to 100% SOC. The problem with our drone batteries is we cannot simply set our charger to 80% in order to take advantage of that. That's why I'm excited about the prospect of the possibility of perhaps being able to rebuild the Mavic Mini battery using 18650 cells and a spot welder.
Just got my Mavic Mini yesterday! My remote has an icon beside the port that showed me the correct orientation to plug in the charging cable. Thanks for the vids!
Thank you, I am a drone virgin. In fact, I will be receiving my first drone ever, the DJI Mini today hopefully. I have seen you videos and have learned a bunch of stuff. Thanks.
I have enjoyed your videos for years. I have had many drones over the years, I decided to pick up one of these Mavic Mini's for those times when I don't want to drag around 20-30 lbs of gear on a hike or a long trip. So far I am pretty happy with the MM. I wanted to tell you of a cool thing I discovered while messing with the 3 bay battery charger and the controller. I had the controller plugged into the 3 bay charger and I needed to go. As I unplugged the charger from the wall plug I noticed that the controller was still charging. It seems that DJI made this battery bank a power source as well as a charger station. This is cool if you are out and about and you have several charged batteries in your possession and your controller starts to get low on power you can use the battery charger as a power source to give the controller some juice. The other application I could see this working for is to charge a phone or tablet. Pretty cool technology! thanks again for all the videos! Cheers!! Michael
Another great one Rick! I was wondering about the charging routine on the controller and you made it very clear. Glad you are providing your products that really are reasonably priced and well thought out. I love the flashlight.
Tom, thanks for the post and we really appreciate your business. I'm glad you're enjoying the light and stay tuned for a new 2-port car charger we'll be releasing this Friday. It supports both QC and PD charging and is perfect for charging your Mavic Mini on the road. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Rick
Not just great information ,but understandable to the masses ! Thank you for engaging the geek in all of us on a level we can comprehend ! A fine balance Rick you do it rather well! Thank you , much appreciated , because of you I am saving for the mavic mini with the fly more , IT IS WORTH IT !
If you had that cable as a 4 way splitter, you could charge 2 batteries at once. One in the fast charger, and 1 in the aircraft, then the tablet and controller.
Brilliant Rick. Great information. Loved the simple tip to mark your USB cables to prevent accidental plugging in the wrong orientation. Easily done I have found, trying the force the connector in the wrong way. Keep up the good work mate! Appreciated. Cheers
David, thanks for the post and I'm glad that you enjoyed the content. Marking the cable with a Sharpie is a great way of preventing popping it in wrong and damaging the connection. DJI should have used a polarized connection but this simple trick helps eliminate the danger. Stop back soon for more content!
I appreciate this video. Looking at the iPad mini in the controller - does the larger size of the iPad mini make it at all cumbersome to comfortably hold the controller and fly the drone? I’d like the extra viewing area, but it looks a bit awkward. Thanks, Rick!
I happened upon your video (most likely for the second time), but as I have not flow my Mini for some time do to a Pilot error that discouraged me from flying for some time now, but the information on the batteries was timely as it has been sitting for some time and I was concerned about their disposition so to speak. I originally watch your video’s on the Mini when I first purchased it but have forgotten most of what I learned at the time so thank you again.
Great video!! I think all that's missing in this discussion is the video is 2.7K vs. full 4K in the mavic pro. Our videos are 4K, so this would mean increasing the scaling of these clips. Have you found that 2.7K when scaled up to 4K is still very sharp, not much different? Thanks!
I love my new Mavic Mini....I don't like the way the plastic gimbal guard clicks on over the gimbal and see it breaking. Do you have a link where I can buy a spare one....in case. Thanks.
For the intelligence that you convey...it is actually totally understandable for a not-so-Savy person such as myself. I am 4 deep into DJI quads but this one actually has me drooling a bit. I reccomended it to a buddy and now I am a bit jealous. Thanks for all that you do.
Thanks for the post and I really appreciate your support and am glad that you enjoyed the clip. I have a lot of fun flying the quads and want to help others enjoy the hobby. Stop back soon for more content. Rick
Very useful tips, the touch screen to control the camera is going to be one I’m definitely going to try!! I’ve flown my mini for three days now. I crashed it four times in the first two days (small tree limbs & bushes), I’m still learning my left from right & up from down. 🤔 today I have been crash free. 😃 I have a question about the propellers. They seem to be OK with only minor scuffs, no scratches and it still flys fine and sounds fine. How do you determine when to replace them?
I inspect the props after a day of flying and if I see a nick or deep scratch, I swap them out. Another good test is to "flex" them gently. If one of the scratches is deep, the prop will snap. I think it's better that I abuse them a little on the ground to uncover this potential issue that have the wind do it at 200' up in the air. If they pass this test, I'm cool flying with them. Thanks for the post and I hope that helps. Rick
I’m a new flyer - this is excellent. Thanks so much !! I travel a lot for work and this has been super helpful. If I had 1 question - what’s the best way to transfer what I record from my SD card to my iPhone ?? I did purchase thru DJI the reader that attaches to the iPhone but when I clip in the SD card it does not automatically show up. Is there an app I should download for this ?? Many thanks !!
Thanks for the post and I actually have a few more goodies that I couldn't fit into this clip because it was getting long so look for a part 2 and I'll include the yaw feature.
The Usb can also dasychain a second charging Hub. Also smart is to use a charger with 2 or 3 usb ports, Quick charge 3 compatible and you are charging 3 devices simultanius.
Thanks for the post and I agree. It's really more sophisticated than a lot of folks give it credit for and includes a lot of the tech you find in the higher-end quads. Stay tuned for more content this week. Rick
Hi Rick, thank you for your helpful videos! Is there a way to adjust the gimbal control speed on the wheel? (alt is to use the touchscreen - but difficult when out in cold weather).
Sometimes when I tap the return to home button on my Galaxy S9 phone, it minimizes the app! I can get it back, but a couple of times this has happened when timing was close. Is there a way to "lock" the app in place to eliminate the risk of minimizing at a bad time? I did find that tapping very lightly helps, as a hard press will always minimize, but getting that just right can be a challenge.... and thanks for the tips! Just subscribed!
I just got my Mavic mini last night. I was so excited when I relized you could plug in the hub, then plug in the controller all at once. Only to find out it charges each battery one at a time. Great for the hub, but it also means that no matter what, the control is last to charge. bummer as id want the control to charge at the same time as the hub batteries, that way I can charge a flight battery and the control and go fly. I might look into buying that 3 way cable just so i can do that! Thanks for the tips.
I appreciate the post and the challenge is both the logic of the charger and the limitation of the fast-charging standard since it only allows fast-charging to a single device at a time. The cable I discussed will allow you to charge all three devices at the same time but it can't fast-charge them. Even still, they will all be ready pretty quickly. We have plenty of the cables in stock and can have one to you in a few days if you decide to make the purchase. Thanks, Rick
@@jollyrogerhobbies2386 : Is fast charging Li-ion not a good thing? I see the supplier brick is a 3A . My samsung brick is 2A. All Batteries are rates less than 3,000mAH so is it not better to use the 2A brick??
@@GorillamansGarage I think you miss understood me. Fast charging is great. What I meant was when you plug the hub into the wall and then piggy back the controller off the hub, the smart charger charges the least drained battery first. Then moves to the next least drained. Then the last battery. Finally it will then charge the controller. It will not do it all at the same time which is a bummer. It's just not capable of it. However you can plug in the hub to the supplier brick and charge it, the plug in the controller to a separate supplier and charge at the same time. I can buy that cord from drone valley and charge my phone, hub, and controller all at once. The down side is that it Will not be able to fast charge. So each option has its advantages and disadvantages.
Hi there love your videos just ordered my mavic mini to add to add to my mavic platinum and the spark. My question is on the mini can you use a otg cable on the drone or receiver. Regards Irvine (Portsmouth UK)
Hi,i just wonder if you could use the same charger and plug it in where ever countries you gonna be at? Like for example you're on vacation in the countries with 220 volts? Will the charger or the drone itself have automatic voltage converters or transformer? Or do i need to buy a converter/adapter?
Geoffrey, thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I love this quad and will have a few more clips posting this week so stay tuned. Rick
Nice video, good tips and i don't care if you sell cables or not..i appreciate you letting me know there is some alternative .....good luck to you and thanks
Thanks for the support! I appreciate you posting and am glad you enjoyed the clip. I have a lot more content I'm working on so be sure to stop back soon. Rick
with older drones, I often had ?nearby wifis? mess up my controls and the drone went into a wall etc. Did you find stuff like this can happen with the mavic mini?
Thanks for the post and the Mavic Mini uses a "modified" Wifi signal, which is much stronger and smarter than most drones. I've had it out over 1500' and never had any issues. I've also flown it in urban areas with a lot of WIfi and other interference and it's been flawless. Be sure to stop back soon for more content. Rick
Thank you for the informative and clear tips! Well articulated, and helpful. Being that TH-cam is all about feedback, improvement, and support I thought I’d provide a suggestion to change your camera angles and cropping. There is a significant amount of dead space in your framing that could be better used to see specifically what you are pointing out. I would recommend you drop your camera height, and move the camera a bit closer.

Excellent video with a lot of practical information that might take people a lot of time to stumble upon: The caching item was good as was the charging article. Now all we need is a double QC AC adapter:)
Charles, thanks for the post and I'm way ahead of you. I actually have a 2-port QC and PD car charger arriving this Friday that we designed to charge your Mavic Mini (and phone / tablet) in your car. We have a home version of this coming in late December to help solve the problem for you. Both of these are unique because they support both standards, which is not something most chargers on the market do at this point. Keep an eye on the channel and I'll be reviewing it here on Friday. Thanks for the support! Rick
Hi Drone Valley, I have just got my Mavic Mini and i have being watching your programmes before i got my Drone for Xmas , i did watch one program not by you but he said you can FOCUS in and out with the camera, but i don"t see how so could you tell me true or false please. Looking forward to your reply .Thank you.
Thank you for the battery segment of this video. I guess I don't have to worry about storage rate of like about 50 percent like we do for LiPos since it's a Lithium-ion, good to know.-Thanks Rick
Would you by any chance know what would happen if you're using propeller guards on the drone, enable RTH, and during the RTH process, the drone runs into something. Will it continue to keep going straight? Hover in place? Increase it's altitude? I"m curious about this. I forgot to add if the controller has lost signal with the aircraft.
Hi Rick I've just got my mavic mini and love it but cant use the editing software and where it stores Could you do a video on the use of the fly software Thanks Tony UK
Thank you, kindly, for the wisdom and insight that you share with us. I do not own the Mavic Mini yet; but the video is informative :) Waving from The Bahamas.
Hi Rick, I really enjoy your drone video tutorials and your engineering perspective. I just got a mavic mini and noticed a strange behavior. If I have the camera pointed directly down and then fly forward, the gimbal jerks up about 10 degrees by itself. This occurs when I stop the drone’s forward progess by releasing the stick. It seems that the forward speed is important. If I slow the drone down before stopping it doesn’t do it, but if the forward speed is fast, stopping will jerk the gimbal up. I’m wondering if this is something specific to my drone or is a general problem with the mini. See if it happens with yours. Thanks.
Steven, I haven't tried that but will give it a go when I get back up in the air (hopefully tomorrow). We've had a few days of miserable, wet weather and I think we have a break on Monday so I'll test that out and update the comment.
Hi Rick, firstly, many thanks for all the information you are providing regarding the Mavic Mini! I just received mine and all is well except, I am unable to find the Go Fly App, its not showing in the Play Store but the other DJI apps are. My phone is a Motorola XT1925-4 Moto g6. Are you able to advise please? Many thanks George
Barb, thanks for the post and I appreciate your support. I'm glad that you enjoyed the clip and hope you'll stop back soon for more content I'll be posting. Rick
Big problem cell fone compatibility issue so what is the best budget cellphone to look into buying so I could go fly my LG REBEL 4 and new Samsung a01 os 10 don't work they both say not compatable with dji fly app. Does anyone have answer? Thanks Vince
Johnny, thanks for the post and it looks like Lon beat me to this answer too and he's spot on the money (as usual). I wouldn't gold my breath for the update but I'm still going to see if I can "fudge" (technical term) side-loading the apk to the CS and the Smart Controller to try and find a fix. Stay tuned for updates. Thanks, Lon!
Thanks for the post and if the app installs and runs, you should be fine to fly the quad. The only thing that might be an issues is the streaming video from the camera when flying but if it's a modern phone it should be able to handle it. Stop back soon and if you decide to buy the quad, please use this link to support the channel - tinyurl.com/y67sbgmr
Thanks for the reply. The phone is from 2017 and is running Android 8.1 but it doesn't have the strongest processor. So the controller connects to the drone via some radio frequency and then the smartphone connects to the controller via WiFI? Do I have this correct (more or less).
@@craigwflys You're close, the controller connects to the drone over a modified Wifi connection and the phone connects to the controller by a dedicated cable. The video being sent back is only 720p so you should be OK.
Understood. I had no idea that WiFi could transmit a couple miles away so I just assumed it was something else. Thanks for the clarification. I remember in your video you explaining how the 2.7K video is saved directly to the micro sd card in the drone and then the controller receives the 720p and then you can save it locally on your phone to later be used on social media if desired. Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated. One more question if I may. Roughly how many minutes of 2.7K video can I record on a 32GB micro sd card? And is a class 10 card adequate?
Good video’s, watched all of them on the Mavic Mini! I know you have a lot of information to convey in a short time, any way you could slow down on your talking speed , I rewind quite often! I mean that in a good way! Thanks!
Thank you for not talking slow just to drag out the time of said video. Much appreciated. Double thumbs up

Thanks for the post and I actually have a few more goodies that I couldn't fit into this clip because it was getting long so look for a part 2 and I'll include the yaw feature.
Luv the battery comparison. Thanks
I've been using this for years and i had no idea about the dobo effect, can't believe it haha
The Usb can also dasychain a second charging Hub. Also smart is to use a charger with 2 or 3 usb ports, Quick charge 3 compatible and you are charging 3 devices simultanius.
GREAT Video! Thanks. I learned a lot.
Excellent video and information, thanks for sharing! I have about 6 flights on my new Mavic Mini and am very impressed with this quadcopter so far!
Great video info. Do you think the iPad mini 5 would also fit the Mavic Mini controller?
Lots of great info here! Thanks!
Fantastic review and channel.
can I use my Mavic Air 2 controller with the new Mavic mini, please.
Great stuff Rick, thank you.
Good tips, and that three way cable is awesome.
quick question that i didnt try yet. When you hit RTH do you still have control of the gimbal?
Yes you do have control over the gimbal
Sometimes when I tap the return to home button on my Galaxy S9 phone, it minimizes the app! I can get it back, but a couple of times this has happened when timing was close. Is there a way to "lock" the app in place to eliminate the risk of minimizing at a bad time? I did find that tapping very lightly helps, as a hard press will always minimize, but getting that just right can be a challenge.... and thanks for the tips! Just subscribed!
Kent Schrader try pressing RTH on the remote
Yes, get an IPhone, my note 10+ doesn't have that problem.
Good information. Just got this drone as my first.
@@Dronevalley you are absolutely correct! But doesn't mean I have to like it!😝. But hey, I can dream. I added that cable to my wishlist on Amazon.
Cool review. That camera panning works very well with the Mavic 2s as well. And it lets you pan the gimbal in all directions.
Rick, first class video packed with useful info on the Mini and its batteries. Thank you.
Geoffrey, thanks for the post and I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I love this quad and will have a few more clips posting this week so stay tuned. Rick
Hi. I would like to know what you think about the XIO 3W drone. Thanks.
Hiya can you help me please do I need to use an iPad or can I use different tablet for my mavic air 2 thanks
Nice video, good tips and i don't care if you sell cables or not..i appreciate you letting me know there is some alternative .....good luck to you and thanks
Does the Lenovo tablets work as well. Most of them have 802.11ac wifi?
Most excellent tips, thanks for explaining them thoroughly.
Thanks for the support! I appreciate you posting and am glad you enjoyed the clip. I have a lot more content I'm working on so be sure to stop back soon. Rick
Thank you Rick! I'm a new subscriber and awaiting the arrival of my mini. Looking forward to some great air time with this little gem.
Very helpful tips 🙏 can’t wait for mine to arrive. I’m a real novice as this will be my first foray into aerial photography. 🇬🇧
Ditto, mine arrives today, super excited!
Thanks for the tips
with older drones, I often had ?nearby wifis? mess up my controls and the drone went into a wall etc.
I watch all your vids Rick, there’s always something to learn from you, many thanks.
Robert, thanks for the kind words of support. I love making these clips and it's great to know that others are enjoying them. Rick
Thanks fot tips
This guy def has a degree from Harvard. My dad is the complete opposite of this guy. If my dad even ever said “usb-c” id be blown away. Legend. Subscribing
Can a cell phone charger from my Samsung be used to charge the controller?
A GM mine worked just fine.
@@johnlocklear Thanks, it will save me money.
Excellent info!
Great drone, great video my question is, is there a way to stream from my phone and drone to another computer while I’m flying
How much of this applies to Mavic 2 Pro? Thanks.
Great instructional video
Rick
Very useful information, thanks.
Thanks for the post and the support. I'll have a few more clips posting this week so be sure to stop back soon.
Nice and informative, thank you (:
Would you by any chance know what would happen if you're using propeller guards on the drone, enable RTH, and during the RTH process, the drone runs into something. Will it continue to keep going straight? Hover in place? Increase it's altitude? I"m curious about this. I forgot to add if the controller has lost signal with the aircraft.
Hi Rick I've just got my mavic mini and love it but cant use the editing software and where it stores
Could you do a video on the use of the fly software
Thanks
Tony UK
Hi Tony, off topic but what kind of range are you getting in the UK.. heard different stories and this is the deciding factor for me. Thanks.
Thanks Rick, appreciate it.
Do you have to buy a DJI fast charger or can you just like use an apple fast charger
Great tips. Thanks!
Barb, thanks for the post and I appreciate your support. I'm glad that you enjoyed the clip and hope you'll stop back soon for more content I'll be posting. Rick
Thank you Rick for another very informative clip, much appreciated!
Thanks for the post and I'm glad that you enjoyed the clip. I have a lot more coming this week so be sure to stop back soon to catch them. Rick
Thanks Rick, I will be purchasing the mini through your link...
Jason, thanks for the post and I really appreciate your support. I'll have a few more clips posting this week so be sure to stop back soon. Rick
Big problem cell fone compatibility issue so what is the best budget cellphone to look into buying so I could go fly my LG REBEL 4 and new Samsung a01 os 10 don't work they both say not compatable with dji fly app. Does anyone have answer? Thanks Vince
Great video!
Hi Rick, do you know if DJI's Crystalsky will work with the Mini now or in the future if it doesn't.
So, the standard version doesn't come with ANY charger?
Yes it has. A cable and the plug
@@Totustuus2022 just not a quick charge plug? I am a little confused.
@@clutchcargo666 It is the standard DJI plug with the cable that you connect at the back of the drone to charge the single battery. Like the spark
Not in the uk, you only get the charging cable, no charging plug.....I had to source a QC2 charger from amazon for mine.
@@evolvic that's the impression I got from this video, that you couldn't fly this without buying something additional. Seems negligent.
Thinking on buying a mini. Any idea if it will work with a Samsung J7V? I installed the DJI Fly app and it seemed to install and run correctly.
Do you know how to stop the controller from constantly beeping during the return to home mode? I'm looking at buying this drone as my first drone :)
I've asked the same question but didn't get a reply.
Good video’s, watched all of them on the Mavic Mini! I know you have a lot of information to convey in a short time, any way you could slow down on your talking speed , I rewind quite often! I mean that in a good way! Thanks!
I'd rather rewind as I also often do, rather than waste time getting worthless content info. I love this channel and my mini's arrival is 5 days away.
Click the Gear icon on the bottom right of the youtube video screen, select playback speed and set it to something less than one. ;)
