This song is scary, but in a good way. Listening to her pure voice in the middle of the night, suddenly I want to run to the woods, lie there on wet moss and watch the Moon, the stars...
Just by watching the video I can tell so much effort was put into it's construction. I appreciate such dedication to art. The puppetry is awesome, the stop-motion is astounding, Natasha's face paint is beautiful, the animation is playful, and everything else completes the masterpiece to accompany her emotive music. I can't help but smile at the happiness of my inner child and be inspired to create my own art as I watch this piece again and again.
"Lilies" Again tonight I sang a song, a prayer if you will Fell to the floor on blackened knees, and all the trees fell still Press my hands between my thighs, and poured the thistle milk Begged the thunder bolts to strike and mark me as alive All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill Scented the light And so I finished up my prayer, rose slowly and I stared But I was empty as a grave and ghostless was the air Laid back to bed and dulled my eyes and searched those fruitless skies Again begged the thunder bolt to strike to mark me or else I will die All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill Scented the night And in the second before I sleep And in the second before I sleep Did I believe what I did see? Did I believe what came to me? Appeared a figure of a man Waving upon the hill To the window I ran And saw what he had sent Children of a private world To be conceived in milk Hundred marching to my door All bringing dreams to drink Thank God I'm alive! Thank God I'm alive! All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill All the lilies on the hill Scented the night
such a calming soul, that give a troubled mind peace for a while, coolness in a desert of life's heat and dust, thank you dearest one, so love that i can hear and see your songs whenever, thank you for making this possible, your smooth voice helps me think, now that is talent, Cheers
Damn. I’ve been living in hell, struggling. I’ve spent so much time down, laying in my living room staring at nothing for hours. The darkness has been so total lately. I came across this song the other night, and it’s so soothing. The circumstances most definitely differ, but I know she has been where I am. My life has been an ellipsis for so long. I want to write that following sentence, to continue the thought. ❤️ P. S. The lyric “Thank God I’m alive!” hits so hard.
What a song! Cinematic and epic, yet still intimate and beautiful. Probably my favorite so far from her. You can tell it means so much to her and I'm presuming it's about the writers block she says she had when it came to writing the album. Starts off in the depths of despair before exploding into an artistic epiphany and a feeling of sheer joy at simply being alive. We don't really get this kind of thing from most pop musicians, do we? Natasha is a special talent
Se can do no wrong to me, every song she does, every video is a masterpiece in a different way. No other artist can make me feel like she does with her music.
I love, love, love this video. It's like Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" meets Michel Gondry's "The Science of Sleep"! Keep them coming, Natasha! :)
Love this video!!! Very imaginative. Right away, it reminds me of several of Björk's videos, Hidden Place with the makeup on her face, Crystalline with the things spinning around with clouds in them, Joga with the land and water, and Wanderlust with the puppets. But I Love Björk and I love Natasha so I am loving this new video!!!! Well done!!!
Natasha and her trusty team of children's illustrations stick it to the clouds of writer's block, breathing life back into a once barren musical landscape. Love it!
Meu, que música e vídeo incríveis!!! No momento, sinto um único sentimento: gratidão. Dentro do contexto da minha vida (nesse momento) fez muito sentido pra mim, e me fez enxergar a vida de novo. Obrigado! 💕💕💕
God, I love all these videos so far. I wouldn't have picked this as a single (I personally want an "Oh Yeah" or "Horses of the Sun" or "Rest Your Head"), but every song on this album is brilliant. I can't wait to see her in a few months...
Brilliant interpretation: Nothing is as scary as we think at first and something usually pulls us from a nightmare situation if we focus on a sweet thought. LOVE this played loud on a CD player rather than Mp3
I cant stop listening to this song! I can hear the pain, spirit, mind and heart in this song! She is captivating and alluring with this song and video! God, you are a mysterious being, and I thank you for allowing people to be great. She inspire me to be great. We are all great in our own way, the power of possibilities! "Thank God she is alive" to inspire others.
Wow, Quite amazing. Visually stunning. Got qualities of Labyrinth, Where the Wild Things Are, and some other movie that I can't place my finger on. Both sound and visuals....extremely well done and thought provoking.
What does everyone think of this interpretation below? This song always makes me cry. I always think this has to do with wishing for fertility, marriage and to be alive and the lilies symbolize her body blossoming to receive children. Wishing to have a daughter like Natasha (Bat for Lashes) previously said "Been thinking about having a couple of kids Comb a brush around their heads in the morning " in the song Prescilla. Even the lyrics "Appeared the figure of a man, waving upon the hill" wishing for for a husband to have a family with "I have seen what he has sent, children of a private world," and then she proceeds to thank God she is alive for being able to be fertile and have the chance to bear children. Even the opening lyric of this song says "Pressed my hands between my thighs and poured the thistle milk" as if manifesting a husband, and child bearing. *Thistle milk is used in naturopathic medicine to balance hormones for fertility.
Was surfing stations on the radio about 3 months back and caught a few seconds of this and fell in love with it. Beautiful tune and a lovely voice, thanks for posting!
Mmmmmm Another magical creation. I'm very curious about the behind the scenes on Lillies. I can not imagine life without Bat for Lashes and all the creative and talented people Natasha works with.
Hello, my dream is to be a singer, I have some covers on my channel I know is a lot to ask but could you please check it out? Please help me to come true my dream, I’ll be grateful////0
Please come to San Diego, miss seeing live music, and a night listening to you would make a year out of it, so few i put my head phones on for, so thankful for you Tube, and a BIG THANK YOU for your WONDROUS VOICE and a Remarkable video
I just saw them in Madison WI last night 8/26/13. Great show, they played this song first and it was awesome! Great set overall for sure - you're in for a treat!
Natasha is a wonderful artist! This is a fantastic song with a fantastic video. Somehow it reminds me of early '90s Björk videos, like Human behaviour. And ofcourse the creatures remind me of the book and film Where the Wild Things Are. I also like how it's both serious and light. Just great!
we have many favourite songs of urs but this song + video seem to always pull us back in. u r an incredible artist, thank u for being u... n continuing to grow n make amazing art. its been a pleasure following u on ur journey
the song matches the video very well!! its very creative, has great visuals also reminds me bjork's music videos. but ps i love both bjork & natasha khan!
It's charming how the feeling of guilt that comes through the lyrics, this sense of punishment (is she catholic?i don't know!) it becomes a dreamy and desirable environment in video.Like her mind it's telling "i am afraid" and her heart claims "but it's great to be afraid. You feel alive!"
Since being on the twilight soundtrack I believe they may have (: I hope so because as soon as I heard “let’s get lost” while watching twilight (not sure which one from the saga) I fell in loooove with it!
When she sings "thank God I'm alive!" I get chills every time.
This song is scary, but in a good way. Listening to her pure voice in the middle of the night, suddenly I want to run to the woods, lie there on wet moss and watch the Moon, the stars...

In the himalayas, 2 days out from base camp and this song was the only thing I wanted to listen to. Hadn't listened to it in years. Amazing companion.
wtf this woman is incredible.
Her lyric writing is always so gorgeous!!
What are these lyrics about though, I really don't understand the message
@@phillipe_rs i think it's about going through feelings like depression
"Lilies"
Again tonight I sang a song, a prayer if you will
Fell to the floor on blackened knees, and all the trees fell still
Press my hands between my thighs, and poured the thistle milk
Begged the thunder bolts to strike and mark me as alive
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
Scented the light
And so I finished up my prayer, rose slowly and I stared
But I was empty as a grave and ghostless was the air
Laid back to bed and dulled my eyes and searched those fruitless skies
Again begged the thunder bolt to strike to mark me or else I will die
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
Scented the night
And in the second before I sleep
And in the second before I sleep
Did I believe what I did see?
Did I believe what came to me?
Appeared a figure of a man
Waving upon the hill
To the window I ran
And saw what he had sent
Children of a private world
To be conceived in milk
Hundred marching to my door
All bringing dreams to drink
Thank God I'm alive!
Thank God I'm alive!
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
All the lilies on the hill
Scented the night
Bat for lashes deserves so much more recognition.
This music video is pure gold.
Found myself saying, "Wow" over and over again as I watched and listened.

She triumphantly dances with her demons.
divine.
My favorite scene in this video
Se can do no wrong to me, every song she does, every video is a masterpiece in a different way. No other artist can make me feel like she does with her music.
Agreed!❤️🔥
I love, love, love this video. It's like Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are" meets Michel Gondry's "The Science of Sleep"! Keep them coming, Natasha!
:)
Wow. What a beautiful video. I've listened to this album so many times, but I just got around to visuals and it takes it to another level! STUNNING.
this song, this video, this album, THIS ARTIST. Bat for Lashes criminally slept on.
I wish i could dance with my demons so fearlessly .
Right
i think i just fell in love.
If a man ever needed a song to cry into his whisky to, this one is it.
Love this video!!! Very imaginative. This is probably my favorite, lyrically and the video is also brilliant. Well done entirely

Such a beautiful song and video.
So beautiful... =) reminds me of where the wild things are.

Really like the colourful stop-frame animation style technique used in this video and Natasha sings on the track as beautiful as ever.
Creepy and beautiful. A perfect combination. I love this.
Angelic Voice..

Am I the only one to hear something like a mix of Peter Gabriel and Annie Lennox? I ADORE IT.
Friendly monsters, merkabas, outer space, skeletons, nautical sea scenes, and angel wings...what dreams are made of.
This song is so beautiful, Natasha's voice is beyond magical and don't even get me started on the lyrics ahh
Omg this is so amazing! Dreamy and so inspiring! I've been missing you Natasha xx
deserves more views , watching this underrated art in 2021 anyone?

Wow,
Quite amazing. Visually stunning. Got qualities of Labyrinth, Where the Wild Things Are, and some other movie that I can't place my finger on.
Both sound and visuals....extremely well done and thought provoking.
+STooGE4444 Metal something by neil gaiman/ dave mckean... "mirrormask" perhaps? the stop motion also has a "the science of sleep feel" to it
+STooGE4444 Metal also, human nature from bjork
+aaron BIDSROC oh yea.... science of sleep.... that's a good reference
+STooGE4444 Metal The Life Aquatic, Jason and the Argonauts, Fantastic Mr Fox perhaps?
Isn't The Science of Sleep just absolutely bloody lovely huh?

I will make a video on my interpretation because this song is so beautiful and deserves all the artistic critique possible!!!! :D

beautiful beautiful talented creative lady!
Gorgeous visuals, beautiful video and song!
It's brilliant in its own right but visually Kate Bush circa "Never for Ever" comes to mind.
I thought so too. I know it's three years later but still.
Or Bjork
Beautiful voice, beautiful song.
This song is healing.
right now, this is the best video of the year... so far.
Brilliant song and the video was amazing. Reminds me of the film 'Where the Wild Things Are'.

Glorioso el final de esta canción... un éxtasis místico.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Enchanting. I want to hug those 'wild things' and dance and play too - truly transporting
Bat for lashes deserves so much more recognition.
