I just saw 'The Glass Menagerie' by Tennesse Williams and I could swear that this song was written about the play's tragic character, also called Laura, who was scorned by the world, spends all her time withdrawn from other people. In the play she's 'the last unicorn' in a world of horses and only her beloved brother recognises her as such. I just saw 'The Glass Menagerie' by Tennesse Williams and I could swear that this song was written about the play's tragic character, also called Laura, who was scorned by the world, spends all her time withdrawn from other people. She has been 'left behind' and lives in her own ethereal world, 'a pale blue dream', frequently being referred to as 'Blue Roses'. In the play she's 'the last unicorn' in a world of horses and only her beloved brother recognises her as such. This song sounds like it's being told from his perspective, conveying all his sadness for Laura's insular and enigmatic ways. I was disbelief to find that this wasn't in fact Natasha's inspiration for this song. Both pieces of art make me cry lol.
