  • There's a lot of waffling on without slow-mo, music-accompanying cut-ins in this one, so apologies for that... Unless it's an improvement... Let us know!
    In this episode of Friends Green Porsche Prep Book we demonstrate the fiddling and fettling most 996.1s are in need of after their 20+ years of life on the British roads.

    Must admit, I had same issue with my sunroof switch, not proud, but "repair" I made was a couple dabs of plastic epoxy instead or replacing entire housing. Aesthetically unnoticeable and held up fine for over a year. Not my proudest moment but was able to save $120+. Will have to address at some time, but for now, is what it is.
    Another great video, keep em coming

I also like your explanation in reminding people that a 20+ year old car will start to require replacement of parts simply to keep it looking at its best. Really enjoyed the longer video Luke. I notice you never get involved with replacing the manifold bolts, yet they are a common issue. I'd also like to see a vid on that and rear silencer removal, as that can also be a pig if a job. Also the replacement of the tandem pump on a 997 would be a good vid.

    • @friendsgreenporsche5234
      @friendsgreenporsche5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi a1topdog. The manifold bolt heads are always heavily corroded, but they are still nearly always performing as they should (i.e are securely fastened to the cylinder head and are along way away from developing a leak of gasses). Therefore, although it would be nice to have lovely shiny manifolds under there, it isn't something that *needs* doing. I suppose it's much like the suspension dampers that you see us cleaning up a lot in the videos. The bottom part of the bodies are always surface corroded, but 95% of the time, the damper is performing as it should, and therefore, you're not going to replace the damper just to make it look pretty from the underside.
      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and we'll look into making one on the silencer and tandem pump "how-tos"
      Best
      Luke

    Surely there's a fix for the self-cancelling indicator issue rather than buying a full Porsche replacement unit.
    As you say if it's a common fault then there's a demand for a repair over a replace. If it's the plastic cam then it could easily be reproduced by 3D printing - which must be more economical?
    Just a thought.

    • @friendsgreenporsche5234
      @friendsgreenporsche5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, it probably can be fixed, but I imagine it would require the investment of a lot of time to find the fix and a way to reproduce that fix efficiently. I can think of many other things that break on these cars that could do with a like-wise after-market fixing solution!

    • @friendsgreenporsche5234
      @friendsgreenporsche5234  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for your comment. The gearboxes are generally really good in the 996s. The most common wear signs are 1. A whine from the gearbox itself, caused by a worn out pinion bearing. 2. A second gear "pop out", which is caused by the gear itself wearing,. 3. A second gear "crunch", caused by the second gear synchro wearing. I hope this helps.

    • @MrJohnnyRoyale

      @@kesterhewett1234 it’s defiant worse when it’s cold. The garage I bought it from did put new transmission fluid in for me, which I think has helped when it’s warm but has perhaps made it worse when it’s cold! I would like to see "how to" videos on how you actually do some of the common repairs. As an example, I have the bad bump stops on the front of my 997 and am wondering just how to go about replacing them. You wouldn't have to do a step-by-step tutorial, but if you could give a quick synopsis of jobs like that that would give a guy the overall gist of the job. Enjoyed the film - loved the black car with red interior, especially with carbon centre console & PSE.
    Do you think C4S is worth the premium over the narrow body C4? I really enjoyed my C4, contemplating another, but can't decide if the extra £5,000'ish for a wide body is worth it. What's your opinion?
    Keep up the great work!

      Hi, we actually made a video on exactly this topic, so have a look back at earlier episodes and it may be of some help. From my personal opinion, I love the look of the C4S, but I love the driving feel of a C2. A C4 is my least favourite configuration.

    Do you ever have 991.1 in stock or do you only specialise in the 996 and 997 ? Videos are very interesting.

      We haven't really delved into the 991s just yet, but we will probably do so soon. Thanks for watching

    Hi. Would be great to see all these cars on your website with costs. You've only 1 for sale at the moment.

      He mentioned this was filmed a while ago. If you scroll down the stock list these two cars are in there and marked as sold.

      Hi Mark, nearly all cars do go onto the Online Showroom on our website, but we have been reserving a lot of the cars for customers prior to them going live recently.

    Great informative video, thanks. I have a couple of annoying noises inside my car, a squeaky dash by the dials and in the roof at the back. Would be good to show some pointers, they are not bad but annoying!

    • @garyw1971

      The front squeak could be top mounts. How are they looking?

    • @davidwills3107

      @@garyw1971 it’s like the sound is coming from the leather dash where the dials are. Very odd, if you lift it a bit it goes.
