    I got so lucky it started raining so hard so we got to leave because it was extremely slippery. I was terrified for this one.

    One of our motorpool mechanics jumped off the obstacle about 4 rungs up. It was unit ran training otherwise she probably would've been kicked off the course.

    This obstacle is terrible. You get to the top and can't maintain any three points of contact, people get up there and barely can get over the damn thing.
    You have to jump up and pray you don't slip, especially if it is raining. One of the more unnecessary obstacles imho.

      @@danielj5650 Because he was tall enough. If you are short this obstacle is a killer. People have died. The Nasty Nick one in Special Forces Selection is even taller.

      as a 5’1” person, I can confirm. I do not get 3 points of contact. I take a leap of faith and hope for the best.

    I lived at Fort Rucker in the mid-80s and was messing around on their confidence course as a 6'2" teenager. When I did the Confidence Climb was like "no way in hell I'm going to surmount that very top rung". I notice the trooper in the video didn't go over the very top rung. Is that right?

    I’m not that old but, I remember them being fat slick wooden logs. 2005

      Yes they were. Round fat logs covered in slick clay or wet mud. And we didn't have crash pads to catch anyone who fell. It was only hard packed earth waiting but I never saw anyone fall. I graduated Airassault school in 97. But we had the confidence climb at Ft Benning and Ft Sherman as well as Ft Campbell.

    the scarist and worst thing i had to go through in BCT i hate the damn thing but i did it. im stressing out now cause i have to do it again tomarrow lol

    I saw a guy fall from the top of the same type obstacle at Ft. Irwin, he somehow ended up with his rib cage across the 3rd rung from the ground. Needless to say, it wasn't pretty.

    And yes the rungs keep getting farther apart the higher you go up.... I really didn't think Air assault school was bad at all just that f****** obstacle was like the worst in the entire f****** army

      @@alvincehic1880 yes. First hand experience. And as stated before, the rungs get farther apart the higher you go. I was terrified. But what finally got me over the top was "if it's my day to go, so be it"

    Almost fell off this shit. It was cold outside & the ladder was icy.
    Also, unlike the one you do in basic training that are 4 by 4 wood (that is, if you're infantry), the wood on this one is wooden logs & it's painted, making it slippery.

    Yeah we weren't actually allowed to use the vertical beam in 1994 to 1996... And I'm not saying one way or another whatever the hell you had you had... But no we were actually not permitted to use the vertical beam...

      @@Halo47143 yes that's correct. I was watching this because I was preparing for Air Assault at the time. But when I was there I got yelled at for going all the way to the top LOL. I'm six feet and i struggled to reach. If you're a bit short, expect to jump

      Eli Giard I’m 5 ft 6, as a 92F I’m competing for an air assault slot. This was one of the parts that scared me cause that top bar seems out of reach. But if it’s only till the yellow bar it seems like a relatively easy obstacle

      I think that if it's practice, you don't have to go over the top. When I went to the AA school (1985), we had to go up and over. A truly breathtaking experience for a guy afraid of heights.

    I fecking hated that obstacle...the rest of them were easy in comparison...the rungs were so slick it wasn't funny. And WE had to go over the top rung....

      You had to go over the top when I was in I went through in probably 95... They weren't even painted back then... Oh yeah you had to go over the top and then scoot yourself over to the other side and then come down... I was literally hanging on a rung and dropping down with my legs spread apart yes balls smashing on the wrong below me two runs maybe three before I could finally touch with my feet when I hung down.. even the Darby Queen didn't have that stupid s***

    And yeah at 5'6 you literally had to stand on the last two or three beams and jump up to catch the next beam... I went in the winter time yeah it was wet... And nobody gave a flying f***... And yeah I went over the top because that's what you were required to do the mat sits in the very center but you're required to go up on the left and come down on the right.... In other words if you fell that Matt would have done nothing for you...

      @@BlackJeepConvertible no you are not permitted to use the vertical columns going down thus I had to hang from the top rung legs spread apart drop to the next wrong below and yes smash your balls catch your breath hang once again legs spread apart to reach the next rung below you which you can't reach so once again you drop balls once again smashing on to that rung but after that you can hang down and your feet will touch the next rung and you will be standing there in mid-air holding on to nothing crouch down until you get to the next run.... It was not the hardest School in the army by any means it was difficult I'm just saying that particular f****** obstacle was like one of the the hardest in the army
