    Was an instructor at Ft. Benning in '71 and '72 and taught rappelling with the "swiss seat". Same as this method. We also tied them in reverse to allow for Australian style repelling (face first). This was before Fast Rope. We we would slack jump from a helicopter (50-60 ft). Toss out 20 feet, release from an L sitting position on the skid, hit the 20 ft and slide the reminder with the brake hand. More fun then you can imagine.

      From your experience, is he using static or dynamic rope for that seat? Is it 3/8 or 7/16 size?
      When you were doing the aussie repel, did you also incorporate a chest harness? Can't find anything specific on the topic, your experience and insight is appreciated.

    Thanks, I'm going up a tree is this now. I learned how to make a swiss seat in the army in the 80s. Thirty years ago I used this regularly for civilian climbing and repelling after getting the climbing rope set up. Some climber decided to give me shit for it. I guess he had to justify spending a couple hundred bucks on his fancy harness. I see someone said they did this in reverse for Australian repelling but all I was ever taught wrap the rope twice around your waist then I think a square knot and a couple half hitches. I was not particularly fond of the Australian method on my first attempt which was from a skid mounted to the tower.

    For everyone saying boner, it's not. I remember very well how tight the rope comes around the package that it juts the fabric forward. It's like sitting kakis x10

      good explanation but no, this is definately a hard-on

    • @richard102879
      @richard102879 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No it’s not a boner it’s a combination of how tight he’s got it cinched up and the way BDUs are made. Having it tight around your groin is an extremely critical point to remember while using this. you want to make damn sure that it’s tight around your package because if you don’t you’ll end up cutting your balls off as soon as you’re boots leave the rappelling tower. I remember seeing it happen at ft. benning back in the late 90’s and it certainly left a lasting impression on me to say the least. Squat. Pull. Repeat and gate down so you don’t fuck up.

    Aren't you supposed to secure the half hitches that bisect your rear trouser pockets before moving onto the square knot on your left hip ?

      EOTG Climbers I mean run the working end of the rope back through them and actually tie a knot in them. Secure them.

      Not really, but dynamic ropes are easier to tie knots in.
      Be sure to rappel on a static line.
