I might not have explained it perfectly either. The reprecipitation is not really coming from the rock, it's the sand above it(when it's buried) dissolving, then reprecipitating when it gets to and collects on the rocks.
Okay, so the rock you are looking at on the beach, the alteration is due to groundwater mixing nearshore. The tuff cones are not volcanoes, they are late stage phreatomagmatics, clustered on the SE rift zone of the Koolau volcano. I could nitpick on some other stuff, but you’re close enough. It’s important to get people thinking about geology; it affects nearly every aspect of our lives, especially here in Hawaii.
Right on man. Glad you're coming back. I think I've got a public playlist of "for class" youtube videos that I'm constantly adding to. Rarely do I have class watch more than 10% of them. Basically, it's quality edutainment type stuff that's sort of relevant to geology. Go find that if you want some quality information about more than just what I talk about.
The precipitation of the calcite piece was very interesting. Thanks for the vacay field tour!

Still find these videos good for review. I come by every once in a while to re watch. -Kaleb Williams
