You're probably here for the Geology 101 videos. I'm really not a rockhound, but I LOVE what rocks can tell us about the past. Kind of like reading can feel a bit like a chore, but a good story is the best thing ever.
Geology is a language. You learn how to read the rocks, now you get to read stories they tell you like the dinosaur extinction, Snowball Earth, or the fact the rocks in your backyard are a 350 million year old beach that you wish was still there.
So who am I? I'm a community college geology professor who has worked in both the environmental industry as well as oil & gas. However, education is my true passion and I've worked in that capacity with museums, K-12, higher education and lived/worked in both Alaska and Hawai'i but currently call the "mountains" of the Ozarks my home(they're really just deep valleys).

How I deal with frozen chicken drinking water.
For the geology. I have that water bin recessed into the ground a little bit. The ground temperature should be the average annual air temperature for where you live. If it gets cold for long enough though, the top couple feet of the soil will cool off quite a bit.
The negative design of this setup is how much surface area there is. It's easier for the ice to freeze on the top because of how much water is exposed to the air. I chose to have it this way due to the 18 chickens I have. I used to use a couple large coffee cans, but the chickens drank those down too quickly once my flock grew to this size.

Successful chicken water with goldfish experiment to combat mosquitos.

I've made a quasi natural watering hole for my chickens which doesn't produce mosquitoes. I've had this setup going from May through October. When a drought occurs and I run out of rain barrel water I'll just fill up one of the drums with the hose. I never cleaned out the water bin the whole time. Chicken health has been fine mostly. I threw in some rocks after a chick drowned. :-/ Lesson learn...

Correction. The asteroid was likely moving at about 12 miles per second not hundreds. That's roughly about half a minute from Dallas to Austin, TX or NWA to Dallas.

Hey class and other people. I'm pretty sure I know what caused that earthquake in New Jersey. Consider this my hypothesis. Video I mentioned regarding New Madrid seismic zone: th-cam.com/video/Kn2KFC8cX-g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Kt3ZTQaEV_qpco0U

Riverside Park in West Fork, AR is probably the most popular swimming hole in NWA. It's very family friendly and has some nice sandstone bluffs surrounding it.

Physical vs Chemical weathering & Erosion?
Okay, so the rock you are looking at on the beach, the alteration is due to groundwater mixing nearshore. The tuff cones are not volcanoes, they are late stage phreatomagmatics, clustered on the SE rift zone of the Koolau volcano. I could nitpick on some other stuff, but you’re close enough. It’s important to get people thinking about geology; it affects nearly every aspect of our lives, especially here in Hawaii.

Do the goldfish eat the eggs that the mosquitos lay?
Yes. If they don't get eaten while trying to lay in the first place.
Cool!!

Growing up in Porterville/Terrabella I played with a lot of magnetite as a kid.
Hi i have mica like 2tonnes can you buy it
😮 that's incredible! Why do you think they do it?
Good evening to you Mr Professor and greetings from Papua New Guinea we are situated along the Equator the largest Pacific Island Nation home 800 plus different languages our common languages are English, Pidgin, and Polish Motu. Also our land is blessed with Oil,Gas, the Famous Kokoda Trek along the stretch of the Owen Stanley Range also know as the Mineral Belt such as Gold,Copper, Blue Sapphire, Nickel etc. so I have with me, what I believe to be a Magnitite I will be sending you this video if you could kindly confirm that for me. Id greatly appreciated it.
That's pretty cool!..I blow borosilicate glass and the only thing that I would say is to keep the glass at an even temperature due to the fact that it was not annealed!..I'm sure you probably already know that!..thank you for sharing all this neat info!🤠⛏️🤘🌵
What about phlogopite?
Hey Travis my home Is built out of stone nd I was wondering if you would know the type of stone it is
very interesting. I am researching the scripture about the rocks crying out this morning and came across this video.
Cheer~~~a speckled, coarse-grained igneous rock consisting essentially of plagioclase, feldspar, and hornblende or other mafic minerals.😊
Does Halite melt in a humid temperature!?
Yes, when it's humid halite will dissolve. I used to live in Louisiana and I had a small cube on a shelf that slowly dissolved over a couple of years.
WhaT is the stone or rocck
Cheer~~~a form of feldspar consisting of aluminosilicates of sodium and/or calcium, common in igneous rocks and typically white.😊
I have an diorite too but its uncutten, what should i cut it with?
How much value of magnetic stone many are her
Very nice❤
Nice video! Thanks for the link in r/geology
Thanks i had something repelling my magnet. Now i know what it was❤ Off to google and other TH-cams to find out more.

Is gypsum and Selenite same ?
sounds like iron. Do you know de composition ?
Bonjour oui mais cela ne veux rien dire...
Hey bud I just strayed my rock journey and this helped a lot . Thanks eh
I need a lot of lead ore powder, please contact me if you see it.
Can you tell me more about testing what's inside of the feldspar to determine what kind I have? Thanks so much❣️

Hey thanks for this video, really needed that confirmed. I do collect crystal specimens but I really like polished massive stuff because I like playing with my rocks. I was reading some new agey stuff and they were saying terminated materials were superior but I thought "hmmm isn't massive quartz just lots of small crystals growing together?" And you just clarified that for me. It's strangely hard to get this kind of simple info in laypersons terms as a collector.
a very nice and awesome sample of specular hematite you got there sir!
You're right, a majority of US lithium mining is done on dry lake beds in the southwest, with higher margins than mining lepidolite from pegmatites. The Stewart Lithia in Pala, CA started out as a lepidolite mine but is far more known for the world-class elbaite tourmaline specimens that have been discovered there. It is also one of the most mapped gem mines in North America.
What type of light acid did you use??
HCl 10%. Vinegar will also work(which is 5% acetic acid). You can also find "extra strength" vinegar that's 10%.
i find the shiny one what can i use it for and how much its worth!?
Theirs was a 2.2 one on Mar 14 in the same area according to the government website
Lmao they blame Trump for anything. Get real people wake up.
You taking them seriously makes you a sleepy boy too.
2:10 these maps are based on the amount of people who reported the quake. I understand the age and makeup of the crust is different in each place and had an effect, but why would there be no reports directly around the epicenter in the Cali quake, but lots of reports a little further out? Does it have to do with low population density? It would explain all the reports in the VA quake being evenly spread out, less mountains and no desert where less people would live/report from.
Population density is definitely something to consider. Also, people in CA are far more familiar with earthquakes and may not sensationalize what they feel as much as someone who's felt an earthquake for the first time. However, I think those factors are likely low enough not to cause an issue with gathering the data. I think there's less reporting in CA though due to it being a relatively "normal" event in that area--they just don't care enough to go report it on the USGS website. Plus that website might have been a bit new in that 2013 time frame.
PA has been burning underground for awhile wonder if that contributed to it.
Who is the best of them please
