Tip #3 - AMAZING HACK! ANNA GRIFFIN Cut and Emboss Dies in your Manual and Electric Die Machines😱

- Do not use this hack in the “New Gemini 2” electric machine. It is a new product since I made this video and I’m not sure what the plating would be for that new machine. I do not own a Gemini 2 and I don’t plan on purchasing that Machine. Hi, I'm Missy! I hope you enjoyed my video on how to use Anna Griffin Cut and Emboss Dies with your Manual and Electric Die Cutting Machines! In this video you will find me showing you the BigKick and the big daddy Gemini using the junior plates. Don’t worry if you don’t see your machine in this video, because it will inspire you with the information you need to make it work with your machines. I saw this video awhile ago and it popped up this morning. I started card making with aCuttlebug machine. The cuttlebug embossing mat is fine to use. It did not cut through. I now own Gemini and Jr. Use the cuttlebug when I try experimental things just in case. It is much thicker than Gemini. I also sew and have many sizes of self healing mats. My plastic shims(#4 ) are totally worthless. Gonna try cutting one mat for Gemini. Tyvm for tips. Embossing worked fine.

Oh would I love the AG dies but they are a bit out of my budget since I am 80 years young with a limited budget. I have been creating cards for years but am just getting into the die cutting. My daughter bought me a Spellbinder for Mother’s Day and that was the start of a wonderful new world for me. My creative side really kicked in. I was in Heaven. I wish I could afford anna’s products but even the shipping is out of sight. I have been purchasing from a site that is very reasonable but the dies are very thin. Uh oh, I am going on and on lol. Oh I’m so excited for you Phyliss! You have a wonderful daughter! Definitely let her watch the video so she will understand the process of how I achieved that beautiful “look” with the AG dies. The small AG mat is $10.00 on her website so it’s not terribly too expensive. Her dies are what cost the most. They are wonderfully made and high quality, but when done with this method in the video just turn out so beautiful!

Couture Creations put out the exact same rubber mat with/for their Go Power & Emboss machine. Now that machine is a beast, but super quiet - as soon as I used it I gave my Gemini's away and bought one. Thanks so much for the hack - your hacks are always the best.

The information in this video is great to have about being able to use AG dies in my Sizzix Big Shot Plus, all I have to do is remember to use the AG embossing pad and adjust my sandwich/plates for the cutting part! 👍💖

I just happened across this video and stopped in my tracks when I saw the tittle. I have the Big Shot and a lot of Anna Griffin dies, but my die cuts have NEVER looked like the cuts do on her website and videos. Now I now why. I will go purchase her rubber embossing mat and try them again. This is a real wake up for me. I had put her dies away about a year ago because I was so disappointed with them (despite how much I had spent buying them). I see now that I just gave up trying. Thankfully you had not given up and kept working on this until you solved the problem. I think I was not using a heavy enough cardstock either. Thank you so much !!!! Your video is very well done and thought out. I am definitely going to watch your other videos and subscribe to see what other surprises you have in store for me. Great job, Missy!

Anna Griffin has long been one of my most favourite designers, in fact I still have one of her paper packs that I have been "keeping" since I began paper crafting over 20 years ago. Your tutorial is great for anyone who has old original Spellbinder dies that will also show embossing when done as your tutorial says. Thanks again.

I also have the spell binders dies that you speak of and never could use them until now. We are snowed in here today so I’m probably going to have a play in my craft room. @@CreationsByMiss Snowed in here too (Ontario, Canada) and after shovelling out cars, I'm too pooped to craft. But I did try your technique with some gold foil c/s and followed your Xyron tips too and made a perfect gold embossed die cut. Now to make a card to use it on .... maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for such a clear explanation of how to use the Sizzix machine with AG dies. Although I have an Empress I’ve always thought the Sizzix two pass method gave a better emboss bi just couldn’t figure out how to use the platform. You’ve now shown me how. Yippee!

I only have an older manual spellbinders die cutting machine (pink) and no electronic machine. My retired budget dictates what I can & cannot afford to buy. Even so, this was very informative.

I just found your channel yesterday and already I've seen THREE game changer video's!!! (This is one of them) I have so many of the AG dies and my biggest complaint was that I couldn't get that "look" that I wanted. Possibly now that I have gone and purchased her mat (among other dies that I didn't need... Lol...) I will be using them more now that I know how to acheive said "look". Well done!!!

I have had issues with Anna Griffin’s Dies in my Gemini. The Gemini’s Mats are so flimsy and the dies cut right through them.
I also have the Empress, but sometimes the Gemini is easier so I already have the Heavy duty Mats of AG and will be using your sandwich.

Thank you so much for all your efforts and for sharing all your results with us! I have dies from many makers, including Anna’s. I have a Big Shot and a Gemini. I would never have known not to use Anna’s dies with the average embossing mat, without your warning. My Anna dies are from before she had an electric machine, I wonder if the new ones are thicker? Have you seen Jennifer McGuire’s tutorials on preventing Gemini plate warping on You Tube? I acted on the first one with great results, and plan to try the second video directions too, but it took me a while to get the right plates.

That’s awesome you have some of her older dies! Way cool! Since I switched to the fiskars mat I don’t have any trouble with my plates and have never needed to buy any new Gemini plates. I really don’t like that white Gemini shim. 😂😂😂 I will definitely look up that video when I get the chance. A lot of crafters have told me about it, but I got to not feeling well and had to rest. I’m finally feeling better. I’m so happy the videos are helping you and I can’t wait to share more with you! ❤️❤️

I found this video very informative. If you use the Sizzix silicone pad it must be used with the hard impressions pad. They go together even though they are sold separately.

Your video was so informative! I have the original Gemini and a Big Shot machine. I surely would have cut right through my skinny Sizzix embossing mat! I actually just purchased the Baby Icon cut and emboss Folders (Because I'm gonna be a Grandma again!) and was looking for tips on using those but found this video by mistake. I enjoyed it so much I stuck around to hear what you had to say. I have a few of the older dies from Anna Griffin and have been thinking about buying some of her cut and emboss dies but was unsure how they would work in my machines. I don't want to invest money in something that may not work for me. So now I feel better about making the investment into her dies and her embossing mat. And, by the way, your fingernails looked lovely in your video!

Thank you so much! I have been disappointed to never be able to emboss my Anna Griffin dies, because they cut through my embossing mat. I never thought of buying her embossing mat. My Gemini is long out of warranty, so I am happy to experiment on it. I was just thinking about getting rid of it, but if this works well I won’t need to get rid of it.

These is an awesome video! I have watched your other video demonstrating using the cello wrap putting on top after using the xyron machine. After you have “embossed” and you run through the xyron machine, does it flattened the embossed parts in the die cut? Or should you ugh the xyron machine then back to “emboss” it through the die cut machine again?
I’m so happy you are enjoying my videos Debbie! I haven’t got to test that part out yet. I was thinking about that the other day but haven’t yet had the chance to run through test to best use for her particular dies. This might be one where you have to run the cardstock through the Xyron first, then cut and emboss the die. Then peel the backing off that’s left over on the die. But your way sound like it might work too. Or it might be best to use the micro dots with her cut and emboss die cuts just because of that beautiful embossing. Do you know how to tell what size her dies are? I’ve looked everywhere on her site and I can’t figure it out.

Thank you so much Julie! Anna griffin’s jacket dies or large nesting dies are pretty big and need machines with larger plates to cut them. I think most of her dies will go through the machines that have 6x9” plates. I wish she would list the sizes too. It does make it very difficult. I love having a machine that can use large and small plates, that way I always have plates to cut my dies no matter their size. If you know the names of the dies, look up videos of crafters using those dies to see what size plates they are using, that might help. I hope this helps you. Hi Miss. I enjoyed watching the embossing with dies on the Sidekick as that is the machine I have. Do the dies have to be "cut and emboss" dies or would this work with other dies as well. Also, I was late to the game getting my machine and so the Sizzix embossing mat was not being carried at the craft store where I bought my machine. If I were to be able to purchase an embossing mat on line, should I get the Sizzix one or the Anna Griffin mat? Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much. 😊
Hello Brendaelaine! If your machine is the “Bigkick” like I have, definitely get the Anna Griffin Mat. That mat will work with any cut and emboss dies. You can use any brand cut and emboss dies for this method. Cut and emboss dies have special embossed parts built into the dies, so that’s why this method works with only cut and emboss dies. Don’t know if you know but there is a video by Jennifer McGuire about fixing warped plates for die cutting machines.
I’ve absolutely seen Jennifer’s video. She’s awesome! It’s a great video! At the time I made this video I thought my plates were warped and I threw them away. Turns out they weren’t warped at all and I still had them. 😂😂 I just bought new plates because they were pretty purple glitter plates. Lol I’ve never had my plates warp to the point that I’ve needed to use Jennifer’s method, but it’s so nice to know how to fix them if they get bad. ❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗
Wow, thanks for the video! I have a question for you not totally related to the video though. I see that you used the junior plates on the full size gemini! Does this cut down on the warping? I love my machine but hate that the plates warp so fast and so badly! Thanks!
Thank you so much for watching! I use the small Junior plates when I’m cutting small stuff, but if I’m cutting a lot of die cuts at one time or cutting larger die cuts, I use my large plates. I replaced both my large white shim and white Junior shim with a piece of fiskars self healing cutting mat. I just bought a fiskars mat that was big enough to cut both shims out of. If you replace your white plastic shim with a fiskars self healing cutting mat and cut it down to fit your plates, you will have a much better experience with your machine plates and any major warping issues. I also cut into the same clear plate every time. This seems to help me a lot. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please let me know. 🥰❤️❤️❤️

Hello there - just found your tutorials and watched this one. I am a bit confused with the Gemini machine you are using with the sandwich being run through length side. My machine only has the capacity to run through widthways ( shorter side). Is your machine a different one to my Gemini ?
Hello Sylvia.❤️ I have the large Gemini with the large 9x12 plates. In the large Gemini you can also use the small Gemini Junior plates in it by turning the small plates sideways. That’s why I love the Large Gemini. The Gemini Junior only takes the small 6x9 plates, so you are limited to only cutting small dies. Hope this helps you. Hugs, Missy 🤗🤗❤️

Will a used fiskars 2 sided craft mat (1 side is self healing, other side durable working surface which has cuts on & dried glue on it) work in place of the white shim 4 gemini? Have a great day.
Great Question! ❤️Since AG dies are thicker than other cut and emboss dies, if you follow this method it may possibly work with other dies. I will also test this to find out. 🥰🥰🥰

Thank you so much for this video. I have bought a few of Anna Griffin dies but I don't have the Empress machine but a Big Shot machine. The Sizzix Texturz Silicone and Impression plates will not do the same job as the Anna Griffin Silicone? I'm asking because I can't order this silicone from her website (they don't send to my country), so I was wondering if I can find alternatives to her silicone plate. Thanks in advance!
I had a viewer tell me that it was possible to use the silicone and the impression plates to do this technique. I hope it works for you! I ordered the Anna Griffin Empress Mini Plates (the whole set) from Amazon (They don't offer the silicone plate as an individual item, only as a set). I will use the silicone plate when using Anna Griffin metal dies. I will probably use the impression plate and the silicone plate I ordered with the regular embossing folders I have. As I understand from your video, the Anna Griffin's metal dies are really different and require a really thick silicone plate, so I will use her plates. I wish I could order directly from her website, but it's not possible. :( Thank you for your reply!

@@CreationsByMiss I hope Amazon will bring the silicone mat (the big one, like you cut it to size) so I'll be able to do the same for the bigger dies. As I understand from you, it is not safe to use other plates (silicone or rubber or impression or basically anything that is not thick as AG's silicone plate) because the dies will ruin the mats. So I will not use my bigger AG dies until I'll be able to find the bigger silicone. Thanks for the warning!

I shared your tip on the diecuts after run through xyron run through your embossing machine with some of the craft groups I am in and and everyone loved it and they all pulled their xyron back out again to use them. Like me we had all stopped using them because of the webs of glue.

Hi Missy, I have the Anna Griffin Empress and the Gemini and a Sizzix Big Shot so I really appreciated knowing how to use my beautiful Anna dies in my other machines. Next why dont you do a similar video using the Anna Griffin cut and emboss dies.

I got tired of flipping the tabs that was looking at new machines, then it dawned on me that I can unscrewed and removed the hinge, I've use my Bigkick more often ever since and the hinge is in a drawer if I ever want to restore it.

I would only use the AG mat. They are completely different mats. Hope this helps.

Is the big kick sizzix brand or same as big shot or different company.
The bigkick is from Sizzix, the same company as the Big Shot. From what I can tell the machines are very similar. Even with the new plate system they still will work the same and you can still buy the multi purpose platform (with the tabs) to use in it too. But totally not needed because the new platform plates work the same. Hope this helps.
