    Woah! I've been told that I'm a super proficient chopstick user my whole life. I'm white American, but I went to "Chinese school" (we learned Chinese culture and language) as a kid and learned how to use chopsticks, and always thought I was doing it perfectly. But I always had my middle finger on the outer chopstick, thinking that gave me the most control. I just tried it the way you show in the video and holy crap the difference is amazing. Much easier and less hand-crampy. Thanks!

  • @ROCKSTAR3291
    @ROCKSTAR3291 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    No one ever taught me how to use chopsticks, as a kid i just picked them up and figured it out myself. And that's my advice to whoever wants to learn how to use chopsticks. Just pick them up and find your best technique as long as you can pick up food, stick with that technique for 6 months and you'll be as good as an Asian.

    I learned about 25 years ago how to hold chopsticks (the improper way), and had been using the method ever since... I came across your video tonight, and tried your method, and it felt very uncomfortable, as you warned.
    However... I remember my mother (I'm 45 btw) telling me how beautiful my penmanship was as a child, until I entered 3rd grade, and the teacher told me I was holding my pencil improperly... after that, and the scolding and retraining, my penmanship went to crap... for the rest of my life... -just following an old experience.. Thanks for the informative video ;)

      Robert Folsom I really do despise the "means above the ends" method of modern education. The whole point of using a writing utensil is to write with it. That's it. If you have great penmanship, who cares how you go about having it? Everyone is different and learns differently so why do teachers continue to force a certain way of doing things unto us?
      Don't you wish you could tell your third grade self to continue using your method and ignore the retraining?

      OvoJeGovno Because there is only one way and that is their way...
      Which is something I learned that is not true in my 15 to 20 years working with computers. Sometimes, there are many ways to solve a problem... and which way is best depends on the person (and the computer)

    Just as a fun fact...
    If you are in an Asian restaurant in Germany and ask for a bowl and chop stick, they glare... unless you are of Asian descent and look like it. You are not expected to know how to pick up food with "two knitting needles". ;)

      Practice. If it's sticky rice, that's fairly easy, but if it's not, that requires a bit of effort. You have to go directly down from above and gently grip the rice with just the right amount of force.
