all of these videos make it seem like the top part is the difficult thing, and here i am unable to hold that bottom one firmly it just slides up my ringfinger!

I don't know if there is something wrong with my hands when i see all these instructions.I am a lefty but i can't hold chopsticks with eaither of my hands like this. The lower one always slips from my little finger towards the palm.

A good thing that I had to learn is that you don't need to tense your muscles or apply barely any pressure or force. just relax your hand and bring the chopsticks together gently and it should work out ^_^

seriously for those thinking of giving up and going back to a fork, don't! Persist and you'll get there. Trust me, once you've mastered it, noodles will taste so much better. It's true!

This is the BEST demonstration I have ever seen on how to properly use the chop sticks.
What was good about this demonstration is that it was given by a “Chinese" and it was in english sub-title.
I will E-mail this link to all my children so that they can learn to use the chop sticks the proper way.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you took to provide You Tubers with this video.
    Thanks

This was the best demonstration on how to use chopsticks that I've found on TH-cam so far. I really have to practice because I get cramps in my fingers. I have very long fingers and the chopsticks tend to slip and slide. However, I am determined to learn how to use these things so I don't feel so out ofmplace next time I go to a Chinese or Japanese restaurant where chopsticks are offered instead of silverware.

  • @jaspers107

I found the most difficult thing about learning to use chopsticks was not properly holding them in your hand so much as still being able to touch tip to tip as you rotate your wrist and arm in different degrees. I actually taught myself how to use chopsticks by pouring myself a small bowl of Cheerios and by picking up each individual Cheerio and eating it. I learned when you are not use to using chopsticks your hand get sore. Also, for myself, I can use chopsticks just as well in both hands which is weird because using a fork in my left hand feels a little off.

I got it ! Thanks for the video ! For those who cant ! Trick is to keep all of your fingers really loose and dont hold the sticks too tightly other wise lower stick will keep moving ! Hope it will work :) cheers !

Far from mastering it with 5 minutes, my fingers just wouldn't listen and was hard to get the 'sweet' spot where I don't squeeze the chopsticks too much and hold them naturally. BUT, I did however after practicing and watching the video few times get the hold of it. So great thanks for this video!

  • @MizukiAsiaddict

Can't seem to be able to make the tips meet.... they always cross.. and when they do meet, there's no strength and my fourth finger really hurts. I probably put too much pressure in the lower cs but i can’t do it any other way cause if i put less pressure, the lower cs slip off my finger :( any pointers ?

    • @001Rupes
      @001Rupes 9 ปีที่แล้ว

Chan Rin I was struggling to no end while watching this video. I pretty much gave up, stopped paying attention to my hands, and noticed that the tips met. Yay! The only difference was that I was more relaxed (from giving up). I'm guessing that one of the muscles between the thumb and pointing finger will prevent the tips from meeting when it is flexed (tense). Practice while you're watching tv next time, not when you're in public.

Try using a different hand, if you have difficulty. I'm left-handed and it took my wife literally months to teach me this, cuz I wanted to use the "lefthand." Just on a fluke, I tried it with my right hand and it just took a few days to get good at it. Btw, practice doing it with all sorts of items, not just food at mealtime.

Then you position it badly - you need to rest it on the side of your ring finger's first article, right before the first joint. Also, the thumb should put pressure on the bottom stick, so that the ring finger and thumb work like a vice.

Hold the lower stick in thumb and on tip of ring finger, it will not move, practice on daily basis.

This is how I've always held my chopsticks but recently I've been watching some Korean Variety shows and they don't hold their chopsticks this way. Some cross them in some way and others look like they're almost just holding them in a fist, yet they still manage to eat with them. I really wish I could learn that technique since it looks much more firm when they grab the food. They don't drop it.
